Bret Pine sees something in the woods that leaves him very troubled. He’s not sure he can even talk about it without being labeled as crazy. When the disappearance of a family of four from Europe draws national media attention, some people in town want to point fingers.
Then, on the last day before summer break begins, Bret and his friend Ashley, blow the school’s electric grid with a single touch. A few people close to Bret seem to know more than they want to admit about the legend of Light Guardians and it has him seriously contemplating his murky beginnings.
There’s no stepping outside anymore without the feeling that he’s being watched. For Bret, the questions only get deeper when he’s carried off by a creature that isn’t supposed to exist, to a place he could have never dreamt up.
When a man arrives searching for two powerful young Light Guardians and proves himself willing to kill to get to them, Bret and Ashley will be dragged into a war, a war they didn’t even know existed.
Like most unique new stories it takes a few chapters to find its stride, but once it does there's no looking back you want to keep reading. The story is so fun and creative and unique. I like that the story and dialogue includes each characters realizations of the need for personal growth, mature apologies when necessary and demonstrates so clearly what it means to choose humanity, and that it is always a choice within our own power. Thank you for this fun addition to my summer reading and I can't wait for the next one!!!
Very impressed with this author's first book. I really enjoyed it. I got it for my twin boys and decided to read it before they did. Looking forward to his next book in the series!
For starters, I got to meet Brooke Estrada the author in person on mine and my boyfriend Elliott's trip to Seaside, Florida in May of 2021! She signed my book and gave such a good insight into the plot that I just had to pick a copy up. Bret and Ashley were compelling characters with multiple layers of attraction to both each other and to the readers. The entire concept of the Light Guardians was extremely intriguing and one I thoroughly enjoyed, as per my usual regarding legends in books. However, I wish the authors told more about Bret's parents once his aunt and uncle revealed the reason for their disappearance. The fight scenes with Sagittarius were extremely well-written and captivating with the amount of detail given despite the peril of Bret, Ashley, and their allies. I eagerly await the release of the sequel, especially with the cliffhanger regarding Charlie... 4.5/5.0 for me.
Ignition (Luminescent Calling Book 1) was a great read! The writing was engaging, and the story really pulled me in. I loved the world-building and the characters, and I'm excited to see where the next book takes us. I can’t wait to find out what happens next—any idea when the sequel will be released?
