Melissa Storm is a New York Times and multiple USA Today bestselling author of Women’s Fiction, Inspirational Romance, and Cozy Mysteries.
Despite an intense, lifelong desire to tell stories for a living, Melissa was “too pragmatic” to choose English as a major in college. Instead, she obtained her master’s degree in Sociology & Survey Methodology—then went straight back to slinging words a year after graduation anyway.
She loves books so much, in fact, that she married fellow author Falcon Storm. Between the two of them, there are always plenty of imaginative, awe-inspiring stories to share. Melissa and Falcon also run a number of book-related businesses together, including LitRing, Sweet Promise Press, Novel Publicity, Your Author Engine, and the Author Site.
When she's not reading, writing, or child-rearing, Melissa spends time relaxing at her home in the Michigan woods, where she is kept company by a seemingly unending quantity of dogs and two very demanding Maine Coon rescues. She also writes under the names of Molly Fitz and Mila Riggs.
This could be a wonderful mystery, which I believe is aimed to YA readers. Liz Benjamin is a likable heroine, though I never really got a good handle on Dorian, even after his motivation was revealed. However, there's a disconcerting lack of logic in spots. Also, if this IS for YA, I truly hate the message that finding the right guy is the key to finding yourself, which is wrong wrong wrong!
There are vague echoes of Pride and Prejudice and Cinderella here. Dorian starts out as creepy, but he's actually a good guy, so there's your Mr. Darcy. Warwick is clearly a George Wickham type right from the start, and someone else has a shocking secret that leans toward that characterization too. As for Cinderella, Liz's father Ben is re-marrying, and now she's getting a stepmother and two stepsisters. She doesn't get along well with this new family, though she's trying. She's in the bridal party, but the dress is unflattering (though extremely flattering to her new stepsisters), her shoes are the wrong size, and there's no place setting for her. Her stepmother, Vanessa Price, is a politician known for organizational skills, so these slights don't feel unintentional to Liz.
Dorian is at the wedding reception. No idea how he got an invitation, since he doesn't personally know any of the parties involved. His behavior toward Liz is beyond odd (and it doesn't synch up with the eventual explanation, either). This is the first in a series of unsettling events for Liz, whose father is off on his honeymoon while she's left housesitting/babysitting the teenage monsters who are now her sisters. (Liz is thirty-one.) Is some kind of political scandal brewing for Vanessa? Is her beloved father in danger? Is Liz?
The mystery here is a whopping good one. The execution of it? Not so much. One character has changed his name, but there's no clear explanation why. It's another character who would have had reason to do so but did not. The HEA is contrived, with the "villain" conveniently eliminated before any real damage can be done. At the end of the story, Vanessa suddenly seems like a different character than she has all the way through the rest of the book. No clear motivation -- if anything, the revelations should make her worse, but instead she's all warm and motherly with Liz...though she gives no apologies for her previous behavior or thanks for Liz's responsible actions on her daughters' behalf.
With Liz having her world completely upended, I think it's inexcusable for the author to suggest that falling in love in the middle of all this uncertainty makes her whole again. Fairy tales are for children, and this isn't a children's book. The resolution deserves a more thoughtful approach.
Take it from someone who's been happily married a long time and watched other marriages around me end in divorce: Unless you're comfortable in your own skin and feel whole WITHOUT someone else, you're not in a good mental place to commit your life to anyone else.

My comments:
I really enjoyed this book and found it a really interesting read. Liz and Dorian's story was a really interesting one. This was a grate series and I'll read more by this author for sure. I hope Audible will do the rest of the books in this collection so we can learn more about the memory ranch. I know there available so hopefully Audible is planning to do them as i'd really like to learn more about those characters who wil use the ranch.
Let There Be Love is the third book in Melissa Storm's Sled Dog Series. Although this story wasn't about racing the dogs, it was still an excellent story. These books aren't just about the dogs, they are also about the people who race the dogs and the things in their lives, including their friends, fsmily and foes. "Let Their Be Life" is mainly centered around Liz. Liz's Dad got married and Liz doesn't like the woman he marries. She doesn't like her new step sisters eithet. She feels like the "odd one out/third wheel. She has been the only woman in her dada life for the last 28 years. Now there's 3 more people that she'll have to share him with. While at the reception a stranger approachef and started asking all kinds of weird questions. This stranger's name is Dorian .... He is a foe at first and hopes that Liz will change her mind about him. He knows something about her life that will change her life forever. Will she ever believe that he wants to protect her? I loved this story ... I love how characters from her "First Street Church" Series are mentioned in it. Again, this story isn't about the dogs, it's about the handlers and their family and friends. Everyone of us have a life journey, some have a life that is smooth sailing, others have a life that has many obstacles that have to be dealt with. Liz's journey was smooth sailing until she met Dorian at her Father's wedding. Trust me, you will find it hard to put this one down. Mrs. Storm doesn't disappoint. I received this ARC book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks for the opportunity to read this.
Let There Be Life was an interesting read. I liked the heroine and the hero in the end. The storyline was quite unique though I was a bit uneasy with how things ended.
The Gist: Liz's dad is marrying a woman she can't stand and her new teenage stepsisters are...a nightmare, too. Toss in an obnoxious reporter asking all kinds of strange questions and Liz is just done with this day. She really is.
Liz and Dorian were a decent set. Liz is going through all kinds of hell. I liked her and that she doesn't give up, isn't irrational. She's doing her best with all kinds of crap dropped at her feet. Dorian well he'll make a girl wanna shake him. That reporter thing. He's not a bad guy but just frustrating now and again when he won't just tell the truth behind everything. But in the end he's there for Liz and won me over, too.
The storyline was different. It was interesting. But I didn't quite like how it played out in the end. It felt like rewarding bad behavior when really he needed to be held somewhat accountable for what he did, I though.
Overall, a decent read. It was different I'll give it that.
This is the 3rd book in the Sled Dog series. I love reading about Alaska maybe one day I can go there. This is more of a mystery than a romance. I usually don't read mysteries. Overall this book will keep you on your toes. All Liz ever knew was Ben her father and her together. Mom died giving birth to her daughter. But was Liz the daughter she died giving birth to? Ben and Vanessa get married and at their reception Dorian want to dance with Liz so he can ask her a few questions. But the questions have nothing to do with Vanessa. Here is where the mystery starts. In this book Liz finds out who she is.
Come along with Liz and Dorian for a roller coaster ride. What is her father hiding and why doesn’t he want to answer her questions?

This is Storm's third book from the Sled Dog series although not much sled dog action or even dogs for that matter. Sampson is her dog but has a very minor role in the story.
The story is a good one. Liz is kinda like Cinderella with a wicked step-mother Vanessa and two evil step-sisters. At her father's wedding she meets Dorian Whitley who she finds out is investigating her life. She finds out that the life she thought she had lived was really not what she thought it was. Lots of twists and turns which I always enjoy.
This is really a book about what being a father really means and lessons on how to be a good father and a bad father are scattered throughout the book.
Storm is a good storyteller. There are lots of connections between the three books with Lauren from the first book and Scarlett from the second book playing roles in this one. We even get a glimpse of the next character in Storm's next book, Sofia, who is Liz' boss. I am glad the series is continuing. Enjoyable quick read.
Let There be Life by Melissa Storm had a beautiful twist of suspense folded into the sweet romance. When Liz finds herself under investigation by reporter Dorian Whiley, she's convinced it's because of her new step-mom. But there's much more to it that unfolds beautifully throughout the story.
Dorian is a great investigator. He thinks outside the box and gets the job done. But there's something a little different about this one. Liz isn't what he expected, and neither is his client. Dorian might be on the wrong side of things this time, but it's pretty unclear where the right side of things really is.
A mystery begins to unravel that goes all the way back to when Liz was born. It will take a lot of courage to confront the past, and a lot of grace to forgive and move forward with her life.
I missed the dogs in his one, we just don't get to see them or Liz's friends as much as I would have liked.
**I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book**
What a wild ride! This book mainly dwells on the many twists and turns in Liz's life - rather than focusing on the running of sled dogs. However, Liz is friends with the characters in the previous books so you see their interactions and catch up with their lives. Ms. Storm's excellent ability to develop characters and plots is really on display here. I was so caught up in the story from the moment I began reading it that I couldn't put it down until the very end. This book has mystery, angst and love all combined to create a terrific story. I was given an ARC of the book and have voluntarily chosen to write this review. I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book and can heartily recommend it.
It's hard to review a book like this because the story is such that you will give away too many spoilers if you say too much! The whole book, however, is about the journey of Liz finding out who she is and what her life really means. A mysterious man, Dorian, dances with her at her father's wedding and opens up far-reaching questions that changes her whole life as she knows it. Come along with Liz and Dorian for a roller coaster ride of emotions and experiences that help Liz find out things she has never knows, only to change her in ways she will never forget. Liz and Dorian will never be the same again! This book is amazing and you will definitely want to jump on the roller coaster to find out the secrets!
Wow! Imagine knowing who you are and not knowing who you are at the same time !! This book hooks you in from the first chapter and twists and turns you in so many ways ! I was hooked instantly and I couldn’t put it down. I read it straight through. This is the third book in the sled dog series, but can be read as a stand alone. This is the story of Liz and Dorian. Dorian comes into her life mysteriously and Liz is thrown into a roller coaster ride of events that happened years ago and come to light now! I loved Liz, her strength, intelligence , heart and her friends are real and their support is unmeasurable! I am a huge fan of Melissa Storm and this book is one of my favorites!!! I cannot wait to see where she takes the reader next !
Let There Be Life by Melissa Storm is the third book in the Sled Dog Series. This book is filled with mystery, secrets from the past and, yes, sweet romance and also finding out about ones self. Liz has a lot to learn about herself and her past. This book will keep you turning pages to find out what will happen and what caused it. It also throws in some characters from the author's First Street Church series (that I read and loved). The reference to familiar characters from another book brought a smile to my face.
The plot and characters are well developed and I felt as if i was part of their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I highly recommend it. This book was a gift and I always review every book that I read.
Life can be mixed up sometimes, even when things seem to be completely normal. This story shows that even in a completely normal life, things can be mixed up. But, that sometimes people can do something bad for the right reasons.
Liz’s father Ben just got married and a reporter is supposedly doing a piece on the wedding.
While her father and his new wife are on their honeymoon, the reporter Dorian keeps watching her. Come to find out his investigation is not about the wedding, but about her.
Why her? What could be interesting about her life?
And can she trust anyone with all of these secrets running around?
Liz doesn't feel like she fits in with the sled dog racing community her father is a part of, nor with her new political stepmother and spoiled teenage stepsisters. And unlike her friends, she hasn't discovered her passion, what she wants to do with her life. And now Dorian, a reporter, is following her and making her question everything. Who is Warwick and what does he want with her? What is her father hiding and why doesn’t he want to answer her questions? Even more suspense and mystery in this book than the previous books in the series. Sweet romance about finding yourself and what will make you happy.
This third book in the Sled Dogs Series is incredible. The cast of characters is well developed, bringing back some from the first two stories and adding an amazing variety of new folks. The range of emotions this tale evokes includes everything from frustration to fear, rage to compassion, despair to hope, and along the way we get a couple of awkward, yet very sweet love stories. More so than the previous stories, Let There Be Life delivers a powerful message of the importance of family.
I received an ARC of this book for my honest review and I honestly loved the book and highly recommend it.
4 Stars Romance in Alaska This is an interesting novel. It has way to much psycho-drama for my taste, but is a clean romance. This is not a sweet story by any measure. Without giving out any spoilers, there are many points in the story that can be triggers for some readers. Although this is part of the Sled Dog series, both the dogs and sled racing are mere backdrops to this story. I think this story could have been told without forcing it to fit into this series. From an editorial standpoint, this book has way too many chapter breaks. I received this book (ARC) at no cost and chose to post my honest review.
Let There Be Life This Unbiased Review given in return for a free ARC. Have loved every single Sled Dog Book and this one didn’t disappoint! It was an emotional read for me and emotional subject. Don’t want to give spoilers, so hard! Loved Liz’s character development throughout the book as well as Dorian’s. He grows on you. Loved seeing the characters from the other books playing roles in this book too. Lots of secrets and drama throughout the entire book made it hard to find a stopping point! Read it in one sitting! Definitely worth the read!
This was a well-written, sweet book. Liz is attending the wedding of her father to a woman she doesn't trust, when a stranger, Dorian, approaches her and introduces herself as an investigative reporter. Liz finds their lives intertwining in ways she did not anticipate and they have to figure out what kind of future they have. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is book 3 in the Sled Dog series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as other books by this author.
Liz… My goodness. You are mired in a puzzle, and the situation is even more dangerous than you think! And there’s Dorian. Instinctively you don’t trust him. But then… could you be wrong? What is it he’s not telling you? In the presence of your enemies, you have to trust someone!
Whoa! This one had me going. Not being very good at mysteries, I just kept turning pages. There were many surprises. And the Hero in this story is very interesting indeed. Bottom line: Wonderful addition to the Sled Dog series. 5 stars.
This book was full of mystery and suspense. At Liz's fathers wedding she meets a stranger who is about to turn the world as she knows it up side down. Dorian has information about Liz's past that will hurt her if she finds out. I like how the other characters from the previous books are in this one. Liz has a hard time trusting Damien, but he proves he can be trusted and together they embark on the journey of Liz's past. This is a well written story, that kept me engrossed to find out what happens at the end. I received a ARC of this book.
Let There Be Life by Melissa Storm is a short sweet story. Liz's story starts as a Cinderella story where her dad Ben is marrying the wicked stepmother and two spoiled step sisters. Liz's meets a reporter Dorian at her dad's wedding but doesn't trust him. Loved the fact that Liz's story changes to more of a mystery. I love how Melissa Storm writes Liz's story it is witty, sincere, romantic and emotional. I highly recommend reading Let There Be Life and all the Sled dog books by Melissa Storm. I received a free copy of this book and have voluntarily choose to review it.
I just love this series the stories are Beautifully written and full of reasons such as don't judge people based on initial interactions. Liz's father has just gotten remarried and she is trying her best to be happy for him as Vanessa her new stepmother does seem to like her nor do her two stepsisters. So that turns out to be the least of her worries when Dorian shows up in her life asking all these strange questions. Liz life has she knows it gets turned on its head and when the truth is revealed her life will never be the same
Liz thoughts for the woman her dad was marrying as she walked down the aisle. The stepsisters hopefully were lovely people. While her dad hadn’t dated in twenty five years, saying he didn’t deserve love. For her it was a dress that clashed with her coloring, a chair at the head table missing, a day so uncomfortable. A stranger Dorian, saying he was from the newspaper, asking question more about her, invading her privacy and now things of hers are gone. What happened she wonders, fast moving plots, Liz world is turned upside down. Another good story with a twist of mystery.
This is the 3rd book in this series by Melissa Storm that I have read. The Truest Home was so exciting from chapter to chapter that I read it in 2 days! The mystery started early in the book & never gave away the ending! Each book I have read in this series by Melissa Storm has been better than the previous one but I wouldn't have enjoyed them as much as I did if I had not read all of them in order meeting the characters & seeing how they interacted in each book. Great reading ....& on to book #4...The Sweetest Memory.
Liz had lived with her father in Alaska all her life or so she thought. Every now and then a thought would fall into her mind. She would visualize a dream or was it a memory. It seemed so real. The time canine when Dorian entered her life. He wanted to help her. She wasn't certain she could trust him,she didn't really know how he knew her, how he just appeared one evening knowing so much about her. This is the third book in Melissa Storm's Alaskan Heart series. Enjoyable and comforting...
This book kept me so engrossed that I read it in under a day! There are new characters and also some come from other books in the sled dog series. The story kept me interested and was very suspenseful! The characters have you rooting for them and wanting them to “win”! I love each book in the series but as we move along through the series the books get better and better! If you like suspense and romance you will love this book!
Third in the Sled Dog series, Let there by Life by Melissa Storm is truly a fantastic, suspencful book. I received an advance readers copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to Dorian Whitley, we learn that Liz Benjamin is not who we thought she was. It certainly was a roller coaster ride to learn the truth. I don't want to give anything away so you will have to read the story. Please do!!
Liz isn’t very happy with her life. His father is remarrying Vanessa, after almost thirty years widower, and Liz can’t connect with her. When she mets Dorian, at the wedding, they don’t like each other but he keeps stalking Liz and she can’t understand why. But they will enfold a hidden past that will change Liz’s life forever and will bring her happiness, love and the realisation that family means care about others even if it means make some mistakes.
