Nikolina Aasen’s lived a lonely life as a single were-bear female with no compatible mate in their small clan. But when she shows signs of going into heat, her clan decides they need to pick a man who can sire her child.
Nikolina has other ideas, though. She’s thinking of someone tall, dark and handsome…who disappeared sixteen years ago.
Leif Ludvik left the bear clans behind to go totally, completely wild and bury his grief. He’s been hiding out in bear-form for so long that he hardly remembers who – and what – he is. When Nikolina finds him, she’s determined to make the sexy beast her mate no matter the cost…
But will seducing Leif get her the family she's always wanted...or destroy both of their lives?
Jessica Sims lives in Texas. She hates writing a bio, so something cool will undoubtedly go here later when she actually thinks of something interesting to write. She has some cats, but what writer doesn’t? She plays video games and confesses to reading comic books. And she likes writing, but that one was pretty obvious.
A novella about a bear shifter FMC who is going into heat but with no good prospects for a mate… what’s a girl to do but track down the were bear who exiled himself to Antartica 16 years earlier?
Short and entertaining, with a few sweet moments, but the consent fell a little short of what I wanted (but maybe that’s because it was written in 2014).
Summary Nikolina is the only one left in her bear clan that is unmated. She was born and raised in a small and strict bear clan, where rules and obedience are everything. Nikolina is coming into her heat phase, and since the one man she was supposed to end up mated to left and mated a wolf, she has hardly any choices. When she overhears the council talking about her mating with one of the mated couples, she is appalled. She wants love and a true relationship. But there is one bear she can mate with, a bear that left years ago because of a trauma when his mate died. Leif left the bear clan behind, and has been living in Antarctica as a lone bear, only in his shifter form, feasting on penguins. Nikolina goes in search for him, because he is her last hope. Nikolina finds Leif, and she helps Leif come back to his human form and when Nikolina's mating heat comes upon her, Leif is there strong and willing, and they begin to learn each other. When the council discovers her whereabouts, Nikolina and Leif will be forced to make a difficult choice...stay within the clan or be together and live alone? Plot and Story Line This is another great installment into the Midnight Liaisons' series, it is a novella, but boy did I have a ball of fun with it. I only wish it had lasted long since I fell for Nikolina and Leif quite immediately. Nikolina and Leif are both from the same clan but have had different circumstances. I love bear shifters and I was so thrilled when I saw that this one included both of the characters as bears. Nikolina is a heroine I fell in love with because she was willing to defy the council (which no one ever did unless they wanted to be exiled), and find a mate to love instead of being a 'concubine' just to have a child. She wanted more for herself and her child. I loved how she stuck to her guns and stood up to the council and her father when it really mattered most. Leif was a hero you can admire and appreciate. He is gorgeous and built, with long hair and despite appearing to be tough was sweet as a teddy bear on the inside. I love the way he is with Nikolina and trusts what they have together. The writing is amazing, if you have read Pamela Clare, and love her writing, then you will adore Jessica Sims (since it's the same author). The story was very engaging and had an endearing and passionate romance. Loved every moment and I just couldn't get enough. The Cover I actually really love the covers for the series, what I like about this one is the golden colors and I love the relaxed and cozy posture this pair have. Overall View Bear Naked is a brilliant addition to this paranormal series. It's a tale of searching and finding love and fighting for it no matter the cost!! HOT, SEXY AND SWEET!!

I waned something fun and I got that. I haave a thing for bear shifters and I love it even more when the heroine is a bear shifter.
Her family is just awful. I didn't enjoy that part of the book but the love story is very sweet and the hero is wonderful.
I could have used a few more chapters into the HEA and the hero and heroine building a life together but all in all a good read. I will be reading more of the series. I have some books on my TBR!
ANOTHER BRILLIANT ADDITION to the Midnight Liaisons series!!! I ABSOLUTELY ADORE this series and can't seem to get enough of it!!! Keep 'em coming Jessica Sims aka Jessica Clare aka Jill Myles :D
Very cute addition to pretty underrated series. everything I read by Sims I've really enjoyed...Plus this one has bear shifers; which there are far too few stories of, IMO...
Heroine, Lina, goes all the way to the freezing north to find a bear shifter, Leif. Leif has been wild for over a decade so basically her goal was to find him, bring him back to the human side, and then mate with him.
The story was good becauseeee you get the two MCs in their own little wilderness world where you see Lina slowly bringing Leif back into the civilized world. The development is good, he comes sniffing around her tent and she makes him coffee with some chocolate dissolved into it to make it sweet 🥺 when they both get comfortable with each other, Lina explains her situation and long story short they mate for days and then have a HEA.

A surprisingly well-fleshed-out book for a novella!
Nikola was about to go into heat but the bear clan didn't have any single men for her to mate with after her betrothed left the clan. She desperately went looking for Leif in Antarctica, who had self-exiled years ago due to his betrothed dying.
Lots of snow, yearning for love, and Leif re-learning how to human. Nikola's guilt for manipulating him with her scent was conveyed well. But soon we discovered that Leif had put two and two together on why she's there looking for him. It was also revealed that he had left to get away from the clan leaders' childish controlling behaviors more than his betrothed dying.
The clan made a fuss over them being together so they left.

So I'd liked a few of the books in this series and the premise seemed interesting but ...
what I read - just :\ no.
So some of the stuff was 😒 - and even the "throwaway" phrases just ... maybe it's my mood but they were extra 😒 And THEN it's ... she's just kinda thoughtless like the whole running off -EVEN THOUGH yes I GET IT this is her "only choice" - but THEN when she finally runs into the "hero" and he's all half bear rapey and ... no. Don't care he runs off half bear half human - and actually that kinda was just the extra "no" in the column.
I knew the bear clan was strict ... but seriously.... I liked seeing this glimpse into a shifter clan other than the alliance and to get a better picture of why Ramsey went and did what he did. I loved the ending.
I didn't expect to love Nikolina so much! It didn't take more than a page before I wanted her to have a perfect-for-her mate. She deserved it, after all she had to put up with. And her romance was rightfully sweet and romantic <3
What is says on the tin. It didn't make a ton of sense, but it was fun and did what it intended to do. I'll be seeking out some additional books by this author.
I lurve Jessica Sims' Midnight Liaisons series and Bear Naked was a nice, unexpected continuation. Thank the gods for author newsletters. I wasn't expecting anything new in the series.
I've been curious about the nature of the were-bears since I met Ramsey early on in the series and learned of his exile from the clan. So glad we finally got to meet some of his former clan mates.
We learn pretty early on in Bear Naked that the were-bear council consists of a bunch of old-fashioned, backward-thinking, judgmental, asshats. I immediately felt sorry for Nikolina, Ramsey's intended mate. Since his exile, Nikolina no longer has a male bear to mate and since she is nearing her first heat cycle, it is a matter of concern to not only her, but her clan mates as well.
After listening in on a council meeting, Nikolina believes her only option is to hunt down a were-bear that left the clan behind sixteen years ago. Problem is, Leif is possibly feral and definitely not looking for company.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lina and Leif together. Underneath all that dirt and grime, Leif was a hottie. Given that the circumstances surrounding their romance was different, it was a nice change of pace in the PNR genre. Also, Bear Naked had me wishing for a hot as sin bear here in Kentucky to keep me warm when I'm snowed in. Seriously. This past month has been a rough one and I'm a little envious of Lina and Leif's little snowbound rendezvous.
Bear Naked was short, sweet, smexy, and just what I needed on this cold, Saturday afternoon. If you haven't read Jessica Sims' Midnight Liaisons series, I highly recommend it.
I'll admit, I had some qualms about this when the H/h's first meeting involved Leif being so out of his mind that he would have raped Niko, the heroine, if she wasn't also a were-bear and therefore strong enough to throw him off. Leif being alone in the middle of nowhere in bear form for 16 years did quite a bit to make him lose touch with his humanity, and Sims did a good job of showing that. The apology that came later and no-nonsense determination of the heroine to choose her own path (instead of letting her bear shifter clan leaders pick out a mate or attached male to "take one for the team" for her since she was about to go into season, leading her to hunt down Leif to scratch her itch) smoothed over my initial misgivings.
For a story so short, I felt like Sims did a good job building the relationship between Niko and Leif, and setting the scene well enough to understand what might have driven Niko away from her clan to visit the wilds of Alaska in search of a mate. As Niko works to get what she wants and doesn't let the crappy way her fellow were-bears or even Leif treat her hold her back, I thought it made up for the jarringly off-putting beginning. Once Leif regains his humanity due to Niko's efforts, he is actually very easy to like.
Despite the rocky start, this turned out to be short, sweet, and sinfully sexy. If you can get past the gratingly misogynistic way of life the bear clans live by and unfortunate way Niko and Leif meet in the first few chapters, you won't be disappointed with the way Niko breaks with tradition and takes charge of her own destiny.
Bear Naked by Jessica Sims is a novella in her Midnight Liaisons series. Each book can be read as a stand alone book but I do recommend reading the other books in the series because they are all great. Plus it is always fun to read about characters mentioned in previous books getting their stories told.
In Bear Naked, bear shifter Nikolina Aasen is about to go in heat. Without a boyfriend to got thru the heat with, her father and the council elders have decided to mate her with a married man (and not even an attractive married man, gross, gross, gross). Nikolina takes matters into her own hands and sets out on a quest to find missing bear shifter Leif Ludvik.
***Possible Spoilers***
Honestly when reading the blurb I didn't think I was going to like this story but I absolutely loved it. It might just be my new favorite book in the series. OMG the council elders were pieces of *%$# that definitely needed to be punched in their faces...a lot. I hated them...but it is kind of fun reading about jerks. So yeah I absolutely loved to read about the terrible council members.
Plus Leif was hot, hot, hot. I would have preferred Nikolina wash his hair instead of cutting it (I love long hair)...but Nikolina probably would have needed 10 gallons of conditioner to make it manageable. The last chapter was awesome, loved how everything worked out. And I really, really, really hope Jessica Sims mentions Leif and Nikolina in future books cause they are definitely a couple I would love to read more about!
Back in Book Two of the Midnight Liaisons series, we met Ramsey, the WereBear we all fell in love with. In his back story, we learned he was banished from his clan and this affected his arranged mate, Nikolina, who was left unprotected and unmated when he got kicked out.
Well, in Book Two, Ramsey falls in love with Sara and this leaves his ex-arranged mate out in the cold – literally. Time has passed and Nikolina’s mating time has arrived. Her clan is at a loss as to how to handle the issue.
Older and mated men from the clan are asked to step up, but Nikolina just isn’t having it. She curses Ramsey for putting her in her current position and she decides to do the unthinkable – go against the bear clan council and resolve the issue herself.
Sixteen years ago, Leif, a bear from their clan lost his mate and he went into the woods to forget his grief. Determined to find him, Nikolina goes to the ends of the world to get her man. But is Leif too far gone to ever come back and live as a human and be her mate?
And what of the bear clan elders? Will they allow Leif back into the clan or will they impose their will on Nikolina? Is there hope for her or is she destined to forever walk alone?
Bear Naked features:
erotic themes oral sex sexual tension shifters paranormal romance humor suspense quick read alpha male angst
Bear Naked is another short story from one of my favorite series.
Nikolina Aasen is a were-bear. She was first mentioned in Desperately Seeking Shapeshifter as being the betrothed of Ramsey Bjorn, an exiled member of her clan. But with Ramsey out of the picture, and her heat coming on, the Elders of her clan are exploring options that will directly effect her life. Including, using an elderly member of the clan, getting a "donation" from Ramsey or worse yet, having a married member "take one for the team" in order to ensure that her child is a bear from a good line.
Tired of being lonely, and not liking any of the choices the Elders were throwing around, Nikolina decides to take matters into her own hands, and seek out a clan member who left sixteen years earlier after the death of his fiancé.
Leif has left his clan and most of his humanity behind. For the past sixteen years he's been living an isolated life on a small island in the Antarctic completely wild, rarely shifting to his human form, barely remembering who or what he is.
It's going to take a lot for Nico to bring Leif around, and even more to convince him to forget his grief and choose to mate with her.
This was a quick fun read. I love this series. If you haven't yet read the rest of the series, I highly recommend them.
Nikolina made her first appearance in Desperately Seeking Shape shifter who was Ramsey's ex fiance he left behind when he got exiled from the bear clan .
When Nikolina learned that she is finally in season she travels to Alaska in search of Lief a were bear that has been missing for 16 yrs and her only chance of finding a mate and having her own happily ever after.
Lief has been living in the wild as a bear for the past 16 yrs but when he meets Nikolina ths awakens a part of him that has been dormant for so long . As this two bears finds their happiness they discover together the meaning happiness and they escape the controlling elders of their clan when they forbid them to be mated.
Great novella by Jessica Sims , I am so happy that Nikolina found her own happily ever after as well and glad to see the cemeo of Ramsey and Sara in the novella as well.
If you ever want hot, steamy, and paranormal Jessica Sims is the got-to-author. Her novels of the Animal Alliance are all that and more. In previous books we learn about the bear clan and how ultra conservative they really are- in fact, my favorite character Ramsey left them because he made friends with a were-cougar and they exiled him. In this short novella we meet the betrothed he left behind and though she is a brat at first with her hatred of Ramsey (at least in my eyes) she quickly grows on you as she tries to gain her freedom from an archaic society. I think this story deserves the highest rating, but I only rate novellas a max three stars because the brevity of them. I think her relationship with her mate could have been a little more detailed instead of the wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am it turned out to be. But the author's beautiful writing style came through and the world is just richly imagined and artfully written.
