Mentor is book #4 in the Penthouse Pleasures series, but can be read as a standalone. Oh how I wanted to love Mentor, but unfortunately this one missed the mark for me. Most of the book felt so random, like the authors were throwing the erotic romance kitchen sink at the plot.
Elle works in retail, but her true love is writing erotic romance novels. (Very meta.) Her friend has arranged for Elle to view a fancy penthouse (as research? It's still not clear to me why), but when Elle enters, she finds a crazy hot guy, naked and tied to a chair. Stay with me here.
Elle and the hot guy wind up having sex (because why not?), after which Elle runs away. Hot guy Avi tracks Elle down and pursues her, under the guise of being her "mentor" and providing her with inspiration for her novels. Elle reluctantly agrees. Along the way, of course their arrangement turns into more, and they both end up catching feelings for each other. However, I had trouble with several things.
First, Elle has a traumatic past that prevents her from wanting a full relationship with Avi. But that trauma doesn't keep her from having spontaneous sex with a random guy she's just met?
Second, when the trauma is revealed, I felt it was kind of glossed over.
Third, Elle and Avi's sexual relationship changes rather quickly to include additional men, which again, I was skeptical of because her relationship with Avi is so new.
The plot is so disjointed and I couldn't make sense of it. There are sweet moments between Elle and Avi that reminded me a lot of Carew's Dirty Talk series, but this story veers off pretty swiftly. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy this book and wouldn't recommend it.

THIS WAS PRETTY GOOD, IT WAS A STORY OF A WOMAN'S EXPLORATION IN SEX AND FULFILLING HER NEEDS AS A WOMAN. DID THAT MAKE SENSE?
OUR HERO is a typical hot, sexy and virile male and for some reason, I just feel like he's the meat or bait in this story....the one male fantasy that every woman has in their mind, and we're going to just use him and the other men in this story to fuel our desire. As cold as it sounds, that's how I felt when I read this story and I gotta say it was fucking hot and explicit. Avi is ready to settle down with the right woman and thought to give his ex another chance to get back together. Who knew that it was the wrong woman who came into his apartment and the out of this world sex they had made him desperate to get to know her and also explore a possible relationship with her. He doesn't know the trauma she's been through, but as a character I'd say he's a damned patient man, caring and definitely sees to her needs first.
OUR HEROINE is emotionally traumatised by her ex-boyfriend who broke her trust when he allowed their menage to go wrong. She's wary of men and doesn't want to fall in love again, till she steps into the apartment and had sex with a hot almost God like creature. Apparently she went into the wrong building, but coincidentally Avi was also planning to have a naughty sexscapade with his ex who turns out to be Elle instead. When Avi calls her the next day, she panics and she's terrified that this man wants to date her and know her. So, when he proposes to be her sex mentor for her book inspiration, she agrees but will she be opening a can of worms that she doesn't want to revisit?
OVERALL this book hit me strongly that apart from the romance, it was exploring your own sexual desires. The ending was done with a bang, although personally it detracted from intimacy between Avi and Elle, because two more men were involved...to me while the sex is panty melting, they were both intruders within the love bubble between the characters. So while i appreciated the sex, i certainly didn't like them intruding on the emotional moment.

If you want a Hot and Steamy romance this is it. Add to that Elle, who wants to be an author of erotic romance and Avi the hot body with the money and the penthouse and you have a book that is hard to put down. It starts with Elle entering the wrong suite and instead of looking at an empty space she looking at not only a beautifully furnished suite but also a naked Avi, tied up and blindfolded in a chair. You will have to read the book..... Elle has a past that she has trouble dealing with, but Avi gives her the oppurtumity of a lifetime to help her with her writing. What could go wrong? Falling in love, how can that ever be a bad thing, and all the exciting sex to go with it.

S*xy and steamy romance read with considerate and caring alpha male
Elle needs to break out of her fit and Avi I is just the one to help her, even if they met unexpectedly. I love the characters and the story. Elle was strong and sweet yet sassy. Avi was an alpha male but not overbearing, he was sweet caring and strong. Opal Carew is a wonderful writer who mixes sweet with heat.

That was hawt! From the first page until the last page, steamy and sexy times. Avi and Elle have chemistry that leaps right out and grabs you, and then sucks you right in with them. Be prepared, you will be squirming. There was also a heart-breaking emotional component with the story, and it occurred near the end, though there were hints of it. While my heart aches for Elle, my soul cheered at her strength and courage. And that epilogue, oh wow, that was stupid sexy :)
