Who will survive the onslaught when the slime comes to town?
Something crashed in Old Man Tate's field. Something out of this world and it's oozing through town, destroying everything in its path. Who will survive the onslaught when the slime comes to town?
Hello there! Nice to see you, and I thank you for dropping in. I am an author from Barberton Ohio, and have written four books, and have been featured in a variety of anthologies. I am a geek who collects comics and loves books of all shapes and sizes
Author and reviewer Michael Noe graciously sent me an arc of his newest book, Slime Time, a creature feature straight out of a Friday or Saturday night in the 70's and 80's. This book read like it would fit right in with some movies of our bygone childhoods. A story of small town horror that wasn't over the top or out right extreme. It begins with a young couple getting hot and heavy in their towns number one make out spot, The Point, when something comes crashing down out of the sky into a nearby field. Of course curiosity gets the best of everyone and the need to investigate the crash compells the kids to abandon their lusty adventure for this once in a lifetime experience. This is just the start of the night that the small town of Cotrage Grove ceased to exist. Slime Time is an entertaining book, and one thing I really liked was the use of a slime type monster. There just isn't a lot of books out there utilizing this kind of creature, at least that I am aware of. I can only think of Adam Ceasers Exponential off the top of my head. Michael Noe effectively uses the slime to rampage through the town in its mindless slaughter of everyone it comes into contact with. Slime Time is funny, horrific and entertaining. An excellent read especially with the approaching Halloween season. Recommended for any fan of horror.
Slime Time was a short and to-the-point b-movie icky bug story. I read it in one day. That being said, the writing was not bad for a small publisher, maybe self-published-quality type story. Written in third-person, mostly limited, there was some head-hopping here and there, but it wasn’t enough to jerk me out of the story. It was also in past-tense which made it easy to read. However, there were quite a few typos, especially in the second half and could’ve used a better proof read-through. Considering how short it was, I would expect it to have been done a little better than that.
As for the story, it was gory, graphic, funny and profane. In other words, everything one would expect from good icky bug. My suspension of disbelief wasn’t taxed too bad because, after all, this isn’t rocket science and I in no way picked up this book for that. I wanted to have fun and that’s exactly what I got. In some ways I wished it was a bit longer, but considering all the typos and the fact that it got right to the point, the story wrapped up nicely. Highly entertaining, despite a few flaws. Highly recommended.
A quick read about a small rural town being destroyed by a mass of growing green slime. The action starts quickly and doesn’t let up until the last page. Bottom line is it’s a rollicking, non-stop roller coaster of profanity and gore with just a sprinkle of sex and a dump truck full of bloody monster action.
Total creature feature in book form. This brought me back to watching 80s movies of the same type. I liked it a lot. It was exactly as described and fun to go through. Good stuff.
