Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
This series follows Shane Ryan and friends, ghost hunters extraordinaire. This does seem like somewhat of a rip-off of Ghostbusters to me. Even terminology gives a nod to the franchise, with ghost busting a common term. I might not have noticed as much if I hadn't recently introduced my son to the New Ghostbusters cartoon that I used to watch as a child.
Some of the stories are slower than others, but overall it is entertaining. I probably wouldn't have pushed through all of the books, but I was reading it as a Kindle lending item and wanted to get through it before it expired.
Overall the entire series sits at a 3-star for me. Individual stories range from 1-4 stars.
Overall 4.5... This was an awesome series of 9 books that kept getting better. I have read other of Ripley’s series such as the Moving In series and I liked that series as well. They are all unique stories with one consistent plot building in underneath the individual stories with some wicked ghosts. The author wasn’t afraid to end a character but wasn’t afraid to give some power to a protagonist either. I’m sorry they are over.
I enjoyed every book in this series and although I wish I could hav kept reading, the think the end was a good thing. I answered questions, provided a hint of a future and tied up all the loose ends.
I will miss Shane and Frank , they were great characters, I am happy for Courtney.. life, and death go on.
Another nine will written fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror ghost 👻 monster adventure thrillers novels by Scare Street and various authors. I listened 🎶 to each of these individually. Each story line is different with interesting characters and setting as the ghost 👻 hunter searching for ghost 👻in Maine and New Hampshire. I lived in New Hampshire and could place each location even if it does not exist. I would highly recommend this series and various authors to readers of paranormal fantasy novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 😮😯👻
Having listened 🎶 to a number of Scare Street Series and single novels if you like paranormal novels give Scare Street a try. Happy reading in 2023
This was a great great series and it is very sad that I am finished . I will miss frank and Shane . I read the last page and with a very sad voice said I can not believe it is over
I really wanted to like these stories but sadly I couldn't complete the set. In fact the last couple of books I read more out of determination that I didn't want to quit rather than for enjoyment. The stories I felt lacked any substance it was essentially the same plot in a different setting. I was bored. As a child I read goosebumps or point horror and these would have fitted in well there albeit still not making the mark. They are certainly not comparable to other horror offerings out there. It felt like a collective collaboration of authors came together under one name to push out a number of stories very quickly. This is just my opinion and certainly other people will think differently so even though I do not personally recommend them they are cheap enough to buy for yourself to create your own opinions.
I enjoyed the first book and thought it had a good plot and premise, and an interesting character in the MC, Shane Ryan. Unfortunately, it stopped there for me.
I continued with the series after the very disappointing 2nd book, hoping it would get to the level of the first book again, but alas, it just went downhill from there.
By book 3 the MC doesn't even feel like the same character anymore. He is over-the-top with his abilities, his tough-guy attitude stinks, and he gets more and more violent as the series progress. Then all the sidekicks helping him ghost-bust are also ex-military and not just any, special forces no less.
No character development after book 1, a silly romantic plot that makes absolutely no sense at all, and each book's story more repetitive than the previous one.
Really wanted to like this series, but honestly, its a slasher movie rather than a haunting.
I tried to limit my reading of this series to 2 books at a time but I ended reading the last 5 back to back.
Ron Ripley's ghosts are not the ordinary run of the mill ghosts as these can hurt you, not just float through walls and go woohoo!
Shane and his friends characters develop well throughout and I was really rooting for them right to the end. You think you can guess what's coming but believe you'll be wrong. Certainly not for the fainthearted as even I cringed at the eating of my eyeballs.
I shall definitely be giving other books of his a try in due course, as I think that if I try one now so soon I'll just be comparing and just spoiling myself too much....or would I? Hmmmmm....
Berkley Street Series Books 1 - 9: Haunted House and Ghost Stories Collection I really, really enjoyed this entire series. I loved getting to know Shane Ryan and his friends, both living and dead, as they dealt with evil, also living and dead. Don't be fooled into thinking it's a typical cookie-cutter story, as Ron Ripley breaks quite a few rules and takes you by surprise, and always in a good way. I found it hard to put down as I was dying (no pun intended) to see what would happen next. Do yourself a favor and start in on this series, preferably in a dark house in the midst of a storm with only a candle to light the room; your heart will thank you for it.
Having read the first book and really enjoyed it, I went straight on to buy all the books in the series. However by book three, I noticed the stories becoming very repetitive with the same reacts being used regularly. The further I read, the sillier the plots and characters became to the extent that even the author struggled with remembering what he'd written resulting in some mistakes in the character's abilities. Would I recommend them? Being honest, not past the first three books because it all felt like a struggle to try and make the story and characters believable and I struggled to read the last three because they just dragged on and on....
Absolute brilliant thrilling read has you hooked from page one. Love how we get to know all the characters and their backgrounds. Hope they make this in to film or tv series because viewing will be addictive.
One of the best reads since Stephen King or Robert McCammon!!! Liked set so much I read them all TWICE!!! Hope he can come up with a way to write some more about Slater and Frank!
In your normal horror the protagonist doesn't believe in the supernatural until way past the point they shouldn't be able to deny it and they have to improvise a means to fight the villains. This book series is refreshing because it recognizes that there are both people who believe in the supernatural and there are still rough and ready people that accept that violence is sometimes the answer and ready to fight. It was good to not be another book with stereotypical running and tripping over themselves characters.
The story arc of the main character is interesting. In the first book he is admirable. Within a few books he is pathetic. But you're excited to see what he will be like in the end. The addition of a sidekick was well needed and the side kick became the much more enjoyable character.
Of the series the first book is amazing and extremely enjoyable. The third book is an exciting read. The rest are decent with the eighth book being exciting again. The ninth book, however, seems to drop the ball. There's a significant difference to the supernatural entity and it isn't addressed. It creates a number of unanswered questions. It also seemed to wrap up too neatly the overarching storyline. It's still a very diverting and interesting series to read and I'll buy more Ron Ripley books in the future.
I just finished the Berkley Street series and am feeling as if I'm shell-shocked. There's so much packed into the nine books, all featuring Shane Ryan and his small band of allies. The ghosts they've encountered have been gruesome and powerful, yet some have been strangely helpful and comforting.
Shane has been to places that should have been restful and interesting retreats but have instead been deadly traps filled with horrors. Set on a mission, he's gone willingly into some places that have been the death of many who've gone before him.
Each place, pins on a map hung on the wall of a shadowy organization, has taken a chunk of his body and soul from him. He's an amazing character, formidable, but so vulnerable and flawed. Ron Ripley has breathed life into him and the world he occupies, and that makes the conclusion of my reading adventure sad to leave it, as terrifying as it was.
I heartily recommend this series to any who love ghost stories.
This book series will grab at you and keep you on the edge of your seat. You have Shane my Hero (an X marine) and Frank ( an X military and X monk) who work together killing and or capturing demon ghosts in nine different stories and he lives on Berkley Street throughout. They go in without regard for themselves. This book set has nine books that will step outsde the box for her to go down killing demon ghosts. This series is intriguing and i loved that some books had extra scenes. Shane chain smokes and is a heavy drinker throughout the series which he feels helps him. This book series has so many twists and turns and soooooooo many ghosts. You will get to know many of the ghosts on Berkley Street and will grow to love some of the characters. I love the ghost Carl. If you want to add a little suspense to your life you need to read this book series. Thom Bowers does the narration and he will keep you wanting more. I loved this series.
Those who have said it before me were right - this series is an amazing value! 66 hours 26 mins long (notice the 6's haha!), and great stories at that!
I LOVE these types of stories, and am an aspiring horror/paranormal writer myself, and it's all that much better to listen to so many chilling and suspenseful stories!
This series is GREAT. I loved the stories, the writing, and also the narration! It was a blast to listen to, and I'm a definite fan! Excellent job, definitely recommended! I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Thought i would pick this up as something different to read. I liked the way new characters were introduced through the books and continued on to the other stories, but got a bit samey half way through how many haunted places in one area are there and just felt like reading the same bit in a different area. Loved the ghosts he had in his own house, though i thought at the end they could have ended the main character with a bit more information, though still was a good ending and liked the little bit at the end of each book explaining how they became ghosts. Not a bad read though dragged on a bit. L
I love horror, but I was incredibly bored and uninterested almost the entire time. The stories were generally the same, but in a different setting. I had trouble connecting with the characters, so I didn't much care what happened to them. Narrator was okay, but it was difficult figuring out which character was speaking. I couldn't finish and returned it on Audible. Maybe I will try listening to the rest of them some other time, but not until I've listened to the rest of my library and have no credits left.
Read Berkley street, book 1, in one night. I couldn’t put it down and went on to read the whole set.
Shane Ryan returns to his home town of Nashua, to his family home. He has dark memories of family going missing. A supernatural story that grips you to the end. The whole series are well written, where you can’t read them fast enough. I’ve lost a week of my life, up until stupid o’clock, as I needed to finish the story.
Books slightly twisted. Ideal if you love hauntings, horror and Stephen King. I don’t think I could cope if I was let loose in his brain.
Great ghost stories, lots of gore and a twist - the ghosts can actually hurt you! I liked the characters and storyline, including the bonus chapters that let you further understand the characters and how they came to be.
Unfortunately, I rated it only a three because some parts did not read quite right and I found myself re-reading to understand either what was going on or sometimes even who was talking. It was almost like reading a draft instead of a finished novel.
Wondaful series. Ron Ripley does a great job in storytelling, putting a new spin on the Haunted House story. I found a new favorite character in Shane Ryan. All the characters in these books are very well written and their personalities shine through. Since, I do audiobooks, I have to shout out credit to Thom Bowers. He delivers a wonderful performance and really brings each character to life. I highly recommend.
Many hours of entertainment! The writing is consistent, and the storytelling is pretty entertaining. The audio narrator does a great job overall across all 9 of the novels. The *one* issue that was...strange with the audio narration is the inclusion of Butters Stotch (from South Park) as the villain in book 9. Although, that was its own form of entertainment. Despite a few minor issues here and there, it was an enjoyable experience overall.
Simply amazing! A whole set of wonder if Shane will make novels that have you reading until the wee hours of the night. Once I began reading, it was difficult to stop and re-enter the real world. All I can say is that I no longer have a desire to visit known or unknown hunted places. Leave the visits to Shane and his group....what’s left of them.
I throughly enjoyed these books. I wanted to keep reading and reading, so I finished them in short order. They were most enjoyable and I downloaded kindle unlimited to be able to read them all. Pardon my pun, but for ghost stories, the characters are very fleshed out. I have already been recommending the author to friends who are avid readers.
These were great books and over them you learn more about the main characters. The ways they found the ghosts and how it all leads up to a giant ghost conspiracy totally took me by surprise but kept me reading.. I also liked the *extra * chapters at the end that give you a little insight into the ghost!
Shane Ryan is a man haunted throughout his life. He takes that and does good with it along with a few friends in tow. He's a troubled man and takes you on a journey you will never forget. I enjoyed this series immensely and was crushed when I reached the end. It's an awesome read. Great author and I'll be reading more of Ron Ripley.
Got to say this that this series was awesome and wish there was more in this series. But i know shane will be in other stories. So i guess i will be reading those. Of you love 👻 and adventure and horror but not over the top gore this is it for you. By the way this is all this is the entire series. Book 1-9 and you won't regret it. 5 awesome shane over 5
