A wonderful look at the Myths of the East. A great start to moving into more depth on the subject if that is what one is looking for or a great overview if just wanting to take a look.

I like reading about historic myths and tales. This was very interesting to me to learn about folklore.

Many typos that do cause some disruption in the immersion of the stories but overall a good book that I would recommend. Coming from books focusing on western mythologies, i.e, Greek, Norse, Roman, I found the Chinese mythology very different and somewhat broken. None of the stories were connected and would only be a page long however some were interesting, not most. The Japanese mythology was enjoyable but short and slack on detail, this is largely because of a lack of info on Japanese mythology and not the authors fault, I’d say he did a good job with the information and stories he could work with. Finally the Hindu mythology was very enjoyable, closer akin to western mythology especially Greek and not as complicated as you’d expect. One story could span for many chapters which made it feel more like a story and ultimately more enjoyable. Overall a book I would advise reading if you enjoy other mythologies but not if you don’t.

An incredible look at the myths and beliefs that define the cultures of some of the most influential and fascinating countries. From China to Japan to India. The stories are detailed and easy to follow and though it is not an exhaustive history it gives you the bulk of the facts that explains a great deal about what they believe, why, and how much their history and culture was built around those very beliefs. The author gives an introduction to each book that discusses in further detail how many of the stories overlap and those that are different, the reason they are. A good read all the way around and would recommend for any history buff.

A great collection of various mythologies from around Asia. The way the author fused the stories with the mythologies was brilliant. I’ve always enjoyed and read about Greek and Roman mythologies, so reading about the Asian counterparts was a great education.

A well explained collection of Asian myth and folklore. There are some familiar and some less so. It would be wonderful to see a fuller version where the stories are expanded on. These traditional shorter versions however are charming.

The selected stories were good, but the writing had many errors and the stories were summarized and not even complete. The formatting was absolutely terrible. The margins weren't centered and there were no page numbers. The whole work felt like a Chinese knockoff written by a high school student.
