Maxine
My sole business is based on enhancing the customer's experience. Therefore, when I walked into the small restaurant in London, expecting to get what I ordered. I was treated rudely by the waitress/owner and her arrogant son had the dirty nerve to come to his wretched mother's aid. I told them both where they could go and stormed out.

It was only when it was time for me to come back to the states, did I see that I left my passport.

Noah
The woman wrote a scathing review of my mum's restaurant, so I did what any dutiful son would do. Attempted to defend her honor. It didn't quite work with this woman. My only saving grace was that I had her passport, a name and even after she escaped to the states with not even a goodbye, the review gave me a reason to call upon her.

She refused to take the review down, and I refused to stop calling her. Then I refused to let her go, which turned into my refusal for her to be claimed by another.

2.0⭐️ I love reading about strong women. Maxine is a strong black woman who owns her own company. Noah is a white man from the UK whose father left him two hotels, heavily in debt and failing. Things had finally started to turn around after 5 years under his leadership. As the story opens, Maxine stops in an Italian restaurant in London and gets into a shouting match with the owner, who happens to be Noah's mother. The opening sequence with Noah's mother was just hilarious. I would have liked a bit more background about Noah and his failed marriage. There was virtually very little background about Maxine. I believe these backgrounds would have enhanced the character development.

Throughout the story, I could feel their feelings for each other grow. Noah's feelings about Maxine's beauty and his realization that Maxine was his "the one", came through loud and clear--and it was beautiful. I could never get a handle on Maxine’s feelings. I never felt an emotional connection regarding Noah until much later in the book. Nevertheless, I did find the last 2 chapters of the book and the epilogue to be very satisfying, enjoyable and a nice HEA wrap-up.

Now, this is why I only gave this book 2 stars. First, I couldn't find any indication whatsoever that this is an erotic novel, which is one of my major pet peeves. I want to know what I am getting-- whether the book has no sex, little sex, steamy sex, explicit sex, BDSM, ménage, or some range of eroticism. I enjoy books with explicit or hot, steamy sex (most of the time), erotic novels occasionally, and books with no sex, very infrequently; it just depends on my mood. But, it is imperative that I know what I am getting in order to make a more informed decision.

This book is erotic IMHO, and it will undoubtedly appeal to some. That is OK--I do not judge other people's tastes in books. However, this may not be someone else's cup of tea, and this information may help people to determine if this is the book for them.

Well, first, this book is full of sex. It has an abundance of back-door activity (anal), spanking, and sex club observation as well as participation by the couple. However, there was one scene that Noah and Maxine were observing in the sex club that made me say, "No, no, no. You do not suck a man's dick immediately after it has been stuffed up your ass pounding away." That is gross and unsanitary (yes, I know it's just fiction but . . . ). I just wanted to stop reading at that point, but I was almost finished, so I persevered.

Additionally, there were some rather glaring issues with the editing. For some sentences, I couldn't even figure out what was missing to make sense of it or the wrong word was used in a sentence (e.g., expeditiously instead of exponentially). Yet another one of my major pet peeves.

I know I have read this author before, “Cole”, and it was an exceptional story. Further, I have every intention of reading more books by this author. I know this review may be construed by some as harsh. It is not meant to be. My hope is that in the future there is necessary that some informative blurb that gives an indication of the sexual content be given. I believe that If a book is erotic, then it should say so. No harm no foul.

This was a nice read. However at the moment I'm more looking forward to read about Jacques and Sheryl i can just imagine the story behind those two well if the author decides to write one. But kool quick read

I sadly didn’t enjoy this book at all.

Firstly, I think that the author really messed up writing the British characters, I’m not sure, but I don’t think British Businessmen in their late 30s(?) go around saying crikey & bloody every two sentences.

Secondly, the Heroine’s handling of the relationship was strange & I didn’t understand her motivations and the way she treated the hero. I guess this was to be two alphas in a relationship, but that didn’t come across properly.

Thirdly, the plot point with the hero’s undermining Board was pretty much forgotten.

Fourthly, the addition of the sex club as totally out of the left field and I wasn’t feeling it with this couple.

I liked the addition of characters from other books & I liked the interactions at the couple’s initial meeting, but I was really disappointed by this book.

Would I recommend this book?
Nope.

Will I be reading it again?
Nope.

Will I read more from this author ?
Definitely! I love me some Xyla Turner, this one was just a miss.

Good Read!

I loved the storyline and I thought the two main characters click. I loved the interaction with the other couple, and hoping I will see a book on Maxine and Noah friends.

Desperately needs proofing and editing

I'm quite disappointed. The first 2 books I read from this author were real fun to read. This was such a far cry from them I feel like it's a different author.

The characters are totally unbelievable. Which CEOs speak like that? To clients? To business partners? You can't run big business and be as impulsive and unreasonable as they both were. Her business experiences sudden growth and she takes random days off at crunch time? His board isn't on his side but he never meets them to get them on side or works on a plan to clean house of his traitors?

After strong realistic leads in those first 2 books, I struggled with Maxine's teenaged behaviour and Noah's sex tantrums. When they finally communicated, the explanations were so convoluted they made no sense. Maybe editing might help that.

There were instances of awful grammar, use of words that meant the wrong thing (malapropisms)... all in all after complimenting the grammar in the last book I read from her, this was just really disappointing.

This book was a wonderful story that had me laughing out loud. Maxine is a force to be reckoned with and Noah plans on harnessing that force. I enjoyed their relationship and how it unfolded. I enjoyed the banter between the main characters and could feel the tension between them. I could hear Noah every time he "spoke" and was grateful for the inclusion of British slang for many of the characters. I also enjoyed the appearance of several couples from other books. It was a pleasant surprise that they were mentioned, but one couple was actually active in the book!

The story is written in dual pov and was easy to follow. The story had a nice flow, except where editing became irritating. There was at least one revelation that Noah had about Max that I just didn't understand. Maybe I was tired, or just missed it. I'll end up reading this again eventually, maybe I'll get it then. I really enjoyed the last several chapters and felt the story coming full circle. I really like how Maxine dealt with Noah's mother, on her own terms.

My disappointment lies in the editing. Xyla Turner is an amazing writer, but the lack of good editing detracts from the story. In some cases, it turns the reader off. My brain shouldn't have to auto-correct a book I'm reading for enjoyment. This book had wrong names mentioned and was laden with words that were incorrectly placed or wrong tenses were used. There were punctuation errors as well (though minimal). While I enjoyed the story, I could not write a review without mentioning this issue.

Note: This is an adult read. There is adult language. It was not overly done, though I could always do without it. There is a tremendous amount of sex, sometimes including spankings, props, and even sex club activities (including voyeurism and exhibitionism). I don't think any of this was mentioned in the synopsis and knowing readers have different tastes, I think it should be disclosed.

While I think this is a 5 star story, I think the editing should be better. I will continue to read and reread XT novels because the pack an amazing punch. If the editing was in place, I would purchase them instead of returning them through Kindle Unlimited. I hope that happens soon because I would love to support by owning rather than "borrowing".

I am absolutely, positively in love with Noah! He is officially added to my list of Book Boos! I love his no games, just in your face realness. The man was also sexy and I am not talking about his looks. I know he was described as a fine specimen, but it was the way he treated Maxine and the things he said and did to her. Oh my, she never stood a chance!

I enjoyed Maxine's character as well. She did not put up with foolishness and did not hesitate to tell anyone about themselves, including Noah's mama. I almost bust my gut laughing when she went off on that "Spawn of Satan" after she slapped Noah. I was like girl, chill. That's his mama. Maxine went straight hood on her. Nobody hits my man but me. Lol

Maxine was hilarious and I loved that she never compromised her values just because she was into a man. Noah demanded she take down that 1 star review, but she stood her ground, and she as right too. His mother was crazy and vindictive. Who holds someone's passport hostage after they refuse to pay for something they never ordered and then yells at them? Spoiled American or not, that is not going down.

I was happy they resolved their issues and respect Maxine so much for the way she handled the situation after she calmed down.

What I want to know is if Sheryl and Jacquez will have their own story? Those two will be funny to read about.

Noah and Maxine have ALL the smoke!

Xyla Turner always gets it right, but with this book… she got it ALL the way right. The chemistry between Noah and Maxine… whew let me stop and fan myself for a few minutes! I really enjoyed Noah and Maxine’s growing friendship. It was so cute. But then when Noah leaves London to show up unannounced in Philadelphia after Maxine’s bestie Cheryl misleads him into thinking Maxine is going on a date, the book just takes off after that!! Noah will NOT be put into the Friend Zone. Maxine is no push over either! Maxine is independent and loving and gives as good as she gets. Noah is an alpha and possessive and just THE MAN for Maxine! Read this book. It’s absolutely right!

Maxine and Noah...worth the wait!💗

I loved these characters. They are multifaceted, constantly changing...even their location. When they moved from one city to another and toured we did too. In Philadelphia and London we were able to visualize what they were experiencing. This is so cool when the author allows this. The characters seemed one way in the beginning but they grew and got sexier, bolder and seductive. Noah is a straight Alpha and Maxine is a seducer and they are perfectly matched. Great storyline, sizzling chemistry and the reunion with characters from previous books was added goodness!!👏👏👏

Bloody good!

You can't help it but love Noah and Maxine, long distance relationship is usually very hard on couple and hardly last. However, where there is a will and most importantly true love, anything is possible. Noah was determined to make it work with Maxine, it killed him to see his two favorite ladies ( his mom & his woman) hated each other, and even than he couldn't see his life without his woman. And Max did something beautiful, courting Noah's mother by writing to her and sending her pictures... And win her over, to Noah's delight!! I

Great characters and storyline!!

Sweet Love to 💕💕

I enjoyed reading Noah and Maxine's love journey. The way that they met wasn't under the best circumstances but it was the beginning for them. Noah was such a gentleman when he didn't take advantage of Maxine in her drunken state. They developed a relationship and Noah made sure to claim Maxine after four months to let her know that she belonged to him. Even when Maxine would try to push Noah away, he wouldn't let her and go even harder to show her his love. Maxine went the extra mile to win Noah's mom over and that made Noah bloody love her even the more. I'm glad that they got their HEA and I can't wait to see what happens next with Jacquez and Sheryl.

What a story

Yes I can relate to Maxine and customer service. My test is if I walk into an establishment and can make it past the cash wrap or an employee without being greeted with a welcome or hello, I am out the door even if they have what I am looking for.
I loved this love story because it was funny and built through conversations first. It also was great because couples from previous stories were intimate parts of the story. Friendships and connections are key to a fabulous love story. Thanks for keeping it seriously hot and fun. Loved seeing Zora and Harvey and the other couples.

Wonderful!!!

So some friends and I had gone out to a very popular restaurant chain here in the City to it, the place was packed. I think our waiter saw a table of Black women and discounted us. We had to ask for cutlery, water and more. BTW he was also black. Anyway a white waiter happens by and saw that we were all just sitting there with no service and decided to take our orders. Waiter #1 got missed asked the guy took his table. We laughed. Waiter #2 got about $50 in tip; waiter #1 got advice. " look both ways while crossing the street. " Don't take a shower with your shoes on".😂😂😂😂😂😂😂!

Great story.

This was a cute story but had a few missteps. I thought that Maxine was entirely too disrespectful to Noah’s mom. She was a bit over the top about it too. I just don’t see any man allowing a woman he was dating to talk about his mom like that. He was also way too quick to fall in love with her when frankly, I didn’t get why lol She’s a pain and it took her falling in love with Noah to finally take down her negative review of his mom’s restaurant? Ughh..oh and the sex club stuff did not belong in this story at all! Lol This was a nice romance but the kink seemed way misplaced in this relationship. Three stars cuz I liked Noah a lot. He was too good for Maxine IMHO

Be careful with this one it's very HOOOOTTTTT! The intimate scenes are very intense, you've been warned. I loved the story of Maxine and Noah, they were fire from the start. Know it all mothers aside, a fantasy take that I wouldn't mind being the star of. The heroine is strong, no nonsense, and beautiful. She takes cheap from no-one, and pulls no punches. The Hero is the same, only his mum catches the small amount of love he has. Bush's pursuit of Maxine (due to Sheryl), is wonderfully written. I highly recommend this book as I do with the ones preceding it that are referenced to inside.

Love Me some Noah and Maxine

Another great story with a strong woman and equally sting man. Loved this couple. I loved the fact that there wasn't too much game playing by either of the main characters.
Maxine was such a likeable character and she was so perfect for Noah. Speaking of sexy Noah, his Mom was a delightful mess.
It is always such a great to also get reacquainted with other characters from some of the other books.
If you're looking for a genuinely lovely story, this is the one for you.
Okay so what's going to happen with Sheryl and Jacquez? I think I could live fatherless well.

Just ok

To be honest I stopped reading this book. One because to me Noah was overbearing and he used sex to control Maxine. Like with his mom, Maxine had a right to be missed with the way his mom treated her. But like always he had have sex to keep her from being mad. Secondly Maxine was weak for allowing him to control her by using sex. She to weak to be this boss business women.
What is author's obsession with anal sex? Every book she writes has some form of anal sex. Like everyone is into anal sex, well I hate to disappoint you Xyla not everyone is into anal sex! Her best book to me by far is Duncan.

Work hard and play harder

It started from an unpleasant dining experience and an one star review. That lead to Noah and Maxine making stars of their own, a lifetime of them. They were the complete opposite of each other but were made for each other. I love how Noah supported Maxine' s business, even becoming a client. With Noah, Maxine learned to work hard and play harder. It was good to read about characters from her other books. I'm hoping a spinoff story between Sheryl and Jacquez will be produced. It'll definitely be a must read like this story.

It was fine

This book was fine. Some things were a little unbelievable, but I did my best to stay on board. The most frustrating aspects of this book were the typos, missing words and misused words. I have read several of Xyla’s books, and thoroughly enjoyed them. This leads me to believe that maybe this was one of her earlier books and a different editor was used. Therefore, I will continue to be a follower in hopes that this was a one time experience. Still in your corner Xyla 😊

It was Alright!

The one thing that turns me off is to not get a genuine description of the characters physical appearance. I can't get into the story as good if I having problems visualizing the scene. Maybe that's why it felt like Noah and Maxines story was just ok. Sex scenes were ok. HEA was ok. Wasn't feeling much with this story. So again..... description of characters is a BIG DEAL!!!

Follow ups

I absolutely love the plot. Unique and thoughtful. I liked the romance and that she was a big girl with style and grace.

I like the tie in with Ms Turner's other novels. Nice to catch up with that universe of couples. Waiting on Sheryl and Jacques!

Read it in a few hours. Outstanding

Xyla has done it again!

Omg, every Xyla book that I read sucks me in. She is a beast with the pen! I loved Maxine and Noah. How they met was unconventional but that's what makes the story exciting. I loved seeing Zora and Harvey in this story. I missed them (Insert giggle here!) Overall I enjoyed these unconventional love story and look forward to more.

I've read almost all of Xyla's books, don't know how I missed this one. But I'm glad I found it. It was pretty good!! Loved Noah, he was something else, lol!!! Now Maxine got on my nerves with all the games she was playing, but I was so glad it worked out in the end. It was good to hear from Zora and Harvey again, loved them!

Noah and Maxine

That accent - whenever Noah called Maxine "Love" I heard it in the voice I chose for him - sexy!!! This story held together well. It was very consistent in the storytelling. There was a part th at had me turned out - lol

I don't know if my reviews cut the muster, but I try not to give much away so people can form their own opinion.

Not my cup of tea

I did not find this to be an interesting read...the storyline was loosely strung together and at times a little silly.

I have read this author before and enjoyed the 10-80 series and try her again.

Maxine was one stubborn and righteous woman. Noah, the ultimate alpha claimed her as his own and never let go. The sex scenes were not and steamy. Loved revisiting with previous characters.
