Most personal finance is boring, stressful, and quite frankly, has far too few cats. There are a lot of resources out there—but most don't take into account the way many of us work these days: with variable income, side hustles, and no access to things like a 401K.
Lillian Karabaic began teaching personal finance because she was frustrated with the lack of queer-friendly, feminist, and, most of all, fun personal finance education—especially stuff that deals with actual real-life money issues and doesn't assume you have a full-time job with benefits, 2.5 kids, and a white picket fence.
The Get Your Money Together workbook will help you identify your personal values and priorities, craft a customized budget, pay off your debt, and achieve financial security. All in good humor and with tons of hands-on exercises and sweet kitty illustrations.
In Get Your Money Together you’ll learn about: The Cat Tower of Financial Well-Being Achieving financial balance Purrfecting your budget: Creating a system that actually works for you Dealing with debt: Simple steps to smash your debt Learning to love saving Investing in your financial independence, a.k.a, how and why to save for retirement Using credit: Your credit score, how to fix it if you need to, and common credit myths Homemaking: Renting vs. buying Identifying which kinds of insurance you actually need
Lots of typos, but the most fun and comprehensive money education I’ve received! I love that it’s a workbook, I love that it has cats, and I finally feel undaunted and empowered to take control of my money.
Solid financial advice in a fun, accessible format. Also plenty of cat puns. If you're worried about your personal finance but don't know where to start, this book is Step #1!
Confession: I've been reading a lot of financial advice columns and doing a lot of research into this topic. Earlier this year, I even read a disappointing, tone-deaf, and weirdly outdated book called "I Will Teach You to Be Rich." I was hoping to find a book with all of the best financial advice organized in a practical and easily digestible manner. Well, this is that book. Lillian Karabaic (host of the excellent "Oh My Dollar" podcast) has created a book loaded with great financial advice, worksheets to help you get started budgeting and planning, and drawings of cute cats (coupled with some Bowie-inspired art). Even if you feel you are already an expert in some of these areas (budgeting, investing, credit, insurance, etc.), you will still learn some useful tips and perhaps have some myths busted. Also, everyone knows someone who really needs to start getting their money together. This is a perfect gift for anyone who feels lost, overwhelmed, or resistant to the topic of money management. It's also a great gift for high school or college graduates.
Good info- found the cat focus cute but also as result less likely to refer book to friends. Also found it very USA focused which in a way was interesting but irelevant!
