The Autobiography of One of the World's Finest Ever Batsman. 'AB has become the most valuable cricketer on the planet' Adam Gilchrist AB de Villiers is one of the finest batsmen ever to play cricket, and yet his achievement extends beyond his outrageous armoury of drives, pulls, paddles, scoops and flicks. Whether he is delighting home crowds at the Wanderers or Newlands or setting new records in Bengaluru or Sydney, he plays the game in a whole-hearted manner that projects a positive image of his country around the world, and also makes millions of South Africans feel good about themselves. This is AB's story, in his own words. The story of the youngest of three talented, sports-mad brothers growing up in Warmbaths, of a boy who excelled at tennis, rugby and cricket, of a youngster who made his international debut at the age of twenty and was then selected in every single test played by South Africa for the next eleven seasons, of a batsman who has started to redefine the art, being ranked among the world's very best in test, ODI and T20. Through all the pyrotechnics and consistency, AB de Villiers has remained a true sportsman - quick to deflect praise, swift to praise opponents, eager to work hard, to embrace the team's next challenge and to relish what he still regards as the huge privilege of representing his country. This is the story of a modern sporting phenomenon.
I just don't know what to say about this book, this book created a huge impact on me. Usually I don't read non-fiction, if I'm not wrong this is my third non-fiction. I read this book, firstly, because I'm a huge cricket fan and secondly, AB is one of my most favorite cricket player of all time. Because this was an autobiography, I didn't have any expectations from it, I thought this was gonna be a boring read for me, but I was terribly mistaken. The way this was book is written is so beautiful. I used to think that only fiction books will let your emotions to flow out, that only they can make you picturize the events in your mind that occur in that book, but again I was proved wrong. Whenever AB described a match in the form of words, I was able to imagine it happening right in front of me. Whenever South Africa won a match, it was like I won it, whenever South Africa lost, it was like I lost it. When Mark Boucher had to retire due to an injury, I felt really bad. When Graeme Smith retired, I cried. When South Africa lost in 2015 World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand, I cried. I get it that I'm an emotional person, but that's not the point, I never knew that a non-fiction could do this to me, but this book proved me wrong. I really really loved this book. This book made me like AB more and more. I adore him a lot. He is such a humble guy. I wish that I could meet him in person. This book took me to the behind the scenes of cricket, it's really easy for us to say standing out of the stadium, "Oh! Why did he do that?" or " Why did he do this?" but it's not as easy as we think. Sometimes people say that "He is not a good captain, change him", but we can never understand what that person is undergoing. This book taught me many things. I would recommend this book to you even if you are not a cricket fan. It's an awesome book. I devoured each and every page, each and every chapter of this book. This book just gave me a fantabulous start to this year.
The book was interesting and it showed how a boy from South Africa became one of the most respected cricketers in the world. This book shows what happened during tours of countries and how South Africa and AB de Villiers developed in to a really strong team beating some of the best in the world.
Amazing book 😍 Got me hooked on it since day 1. this book shows the obstacles trodden by AB Devillers amidst the spirits of sportsmanship. I am sure that you would love to read this.
