I know it was a short story but there's short and then there's really short.
It lacked some of the authors better touches and images in words. Whilst I understand this was meant to help you understand the effect that a young boys death had had on a significant character in the later series of left more questions than it answered. I
Still if you've only got a couple of minutes it's a quick well written read.
I have just discovered this author’s work. If you follow my reviews, you know I am a major fan of anything related to Egypt. I think half my historical fiction books are related to ancient Egypt and Greece.
So I was happy to discover this short story, and I have to warn you it’s very short, but it is so enjoyable!
So who are the guardians of Egypt? They are clothed in mystery.
Not good mystery either.
You see, Egypt is a dazzling metaphor in and of itself. Egypt, is a metaphor for mystery and for mystique, for exploration, and for archaeology, and for wild, almost otherworldly beauty.
But there are certain things in Egypt that the guardians of Egypt don’t want people to find. And that could present a problem.
Because as you know, if you know anything about Egypt, it is made for exploration.
Therefore, it’s almost guaranteed that somebody at some point will stumble on something that the Guardians of Egypt don’t want them to see
What happens then?
Well you see the Guardians of Egypt? They cannot have these explorers around telling secretive tales. So what happens is murder propagated by the guardians themselves.
Yes, this is a fun read, but a wee bit dark.
Julian is – well I don’t wanna Giveaway who he is.
But he’s trying to get away from his highly stressful job for just a little while when he stumbles right into the guardians of Egypt and gets involved in a war with them, that cannot end well.
Who will come out victorious? The guardians of Egypt? Or Julian?
So if you’re reading this and you’re on your way to a vacation destination, and let’s say this destination includes the beach, I can’t think of a better story to read. So don’t forget to take your Kindle and put it in your beach bag and sip a delicious tropical drink while gobbling down this story.
I love stories about Egypt. That actually make you feel like you are indeed in Egypt. Not everybody gets that right. This author definitely got that right here.
Now , I should say upfront and many of you know this that I’m not a series person, but I am considering reading the books in the series because when it comes to Egypt, all bets are off with me.
No, I can’t say whether you would like this or not but I think if you’re fascinated by Egypt or exotic locations in general, and you like dark little short stories, then you would like this either as a standalone or as part of the whole series..
