Bobby and my husband both grew up in Edison, GA. where they played baseball, basketball, and ran track for the Edison High School Dynamos. Bobby went on to play in the St. Louis Cardinal farm system and was a coach for the Atlanta Braves, retiring along with Bobby Cox, in 2010. After hearing stories of Edison from Dennis, I could pick out several people whose names have been changed to protect Bobby (he now lives there full time). Lots of baseball trivia with appearances by Ty Cobb and Satchel Paige. Rather a specialized novel appealing to those who recognize the town characters or those who wonder about life in a really small Southwest Georgia town during the 40's and 50's. I wish Dennis had lived to read Bobby's latest book, he'd have really enjoyed it and clued me in on the REAl story.

An aging WWI pilot, aspiring poet, and two precocious teenagers fight the separate but equal system in 1945 to field Georgia's first integrated sandlot baseball team. But the Ku Klux Klan has other ideas and revives an invisible empire of intolerance.
From the roaring twenties to the bittersweet forties into the volatile sixties, "Unpublished Poets" takes you on a literary journey you'll never forget.
The deep South has found another voice. Listen closely, because you just think you know what it was really like down here.
