Hinana prizes her reputation as a serious high school student, too focused on getting into college to pay attention to boys. But she’s a secret fairytale romance freak, sneaking away from her studies to see A Roman Holiday and tucking pop idol magazines into her textbooks. When her celebrity crush comes to her school to film a TV episode, she has to pretend to be totally uninterested even as she desperately tries to get close to him. However, she’s not the only one who’s not what she appears… her dreamboat isn’t just a pretty face either!

The romance in this story is still light and sweet. With the revelation of Shu san’s feelings in volume five and that end scene between the two women, I was worried that volume six would be filled with angst. I was super pleased that there was no unnecessary drawn out drama and that that particular story arch was resolved within the first chapter of this volume.
This of course is not to say that there isn’t any conflict in this volume. Mitsuki is still out to ruin Kaede’s life and with one single word exchanged between the two men the plot thickens. There is more to Mitsuki’s hatred than Kaede leaving Funny Bone and it appears like Kaede is about to confess everything to Hinana.
Oh things are really starting to heat up now! I think this volume showed a lot of build up and is really making me excited to read the next volume. But for now, let me talk about one of the things I liked in this volume. You know, this is different from the other shoujo mangas I've read because I think this is the first time I read where an actor and a high school girl are in a relationship, and while they have been in a relationship since the past few volumes, I think this volume really highlighted how different they both are and the challenges they need to face.
Also, I've said this before, but during the last few volumes, I've been having issues with how much Mikimoto-sensei paces this series and I'm super happy to say that I found her pacing in this volume absolutely sublime! I liked how she teased us bits and pieces of Kaede's past and as a reader, I can't help but want to learn more about him. With that being said, I am DEFINITELY looking forward to reading more about this in the next volume.
(Also, I think this is the first time I've given this series a 5 star review, which I think is apropros given how well this volume was written :))
It's all so cute and fun (a little weird at times...mostly due to the age difference...but what ev's) and I am just having so much fun with these characters. October is too far away!
Omg, we're FINALLY going to get Funny Bone's backstory next volume! SQUEEEEEEE!
Anyway, this volume had it's highs and lows, but seeing Ayase and Hinana reunite at the end was totally worth it. While I wasn't fond of the dieting chapter, it does make sense in the context of their relationship, and as a high school girl, it makes sense that her appearance would the first thing she'd think to change.
I was a little disappointed that the Shu drama was resolved INCREDIBLY QUICKLY. Although, while Shu's reasoning for seeing Hinana as a good partner for Ayase is shaky at best, I did like how Hinana responded to a physical threat with physical self-defense and wanting to take care of the situation herself rather than go to Ayase was consistent with her character AND showed her fighting spirit. I still think she has a long way to go in the character growth department, but I did like this moment a lot.
Going off of that, I was also disappointed that I didn't get to SEE Hinana's get-together with Shu and was instead TOLD about it. Granted, I'm thrilled Hinana not only has an ally but someone to talk to now, but it was disappointing that I didn't get to see their get-together.
On the romance front, I'm not sure if I've brought this up before, but one of the things I absolutely ADORE about Hinana and Ayase's relationship is that it is emotional AND physical. Not only that, but both partners have an avid INTEREST in physical affection for one another. While I understand that everyone is different and has different ways of expressing affection, considering that most romance manga follow conventional romantic norms, it is nice to see a couple wanting to be affectionate with each other yet respect each other's boundaries (Ayase can be a little forward sometimes, but he does usually respect Hinana's wishes). I don't know, just something I noticed and appreciate.
Anyway, really enjoyed this volume and am so looking forward to volume 7! Reveal your secrets to me, Mikimoto!
4.5 stars. I like Shū and Ayami. Kaede's past is very interesting, it seems. Hinana and Kaede are so freaking cute together! Hinana is impressive. I loved when he told her all the things he loved about her. I appreciate that KMATSOM turns tropes on their heads and never goes where you think that it will. It makes everything way more exciting, fun, and hilarious. Overall, I enjoyed this volume. We saw some growth from Hinana and Kaede, along with some advancement of the plot.
Reread January 13th, 2022 This was a good volume. A bit less cute and more serious, which isn't bad, because there's stuff that needs unpacking. 4 stars.
Today’s post is on Kiss Me at the Stroke of Midnight, Vol. 6 by Rin Mikimoto. It is 176 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover is an illustration of Hinana and Kaede looking cute together. As it is the sixth in the series, you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the story. There is no foul language, very mild sexuality, and no violence in this book. The intended reader is someone who likes modern, sweet love stories and mild celebrity drama. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the book-A Bold Move Shu has captured photographic evidence of Kaede’s relationship with Hinana and threatens to expose it to the entire world- unless Hinana breaks up with Kaede! While Hinana attempts to convince Shu otherwise, she faces bigger challenges and is at the mercy of Shu’s every demand!
Review- Hinana and Shu get to know each other and Shu learns why Kaede wants to be with Hinana. Shu in the end deletes the photo and even supports them. That is most of this volume, character growth for Shu and seeing how Hinana will handle Kaede’s old friends. There is some about Hinana feeling that she is not pretty enough to be with Kaede but that is handled quickly and done well. A very sweet but slow volume that is building up to a major plot dump in the next volume with Kaede telling Hinana that he wants her to know what happened in his past. I am very curious about what he is going to reveal.
I give this manga a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
I picked up the first of the series on kindle unlimited to check it out and ended up reading the entire series ending up staying late to finish. I just loved the idea for this one the celebrity and the high school girl just works. I love that they both grew so much over the course of the series. This is a quick fast paced sweet whirlwind romance. I'm going to need these for my collection. I was super sad to see the series end but I'm so glad that I got a happy ever after. It's a beautiful story with equally beautiful artwork.
4.5 stars Love Hinana’s reaction to Shu and also that the two actually became good friends. Mitsuki, I hate him. Nothing else to say on that front. I kinda like Azuki? Or not? I cannot decide at this point. And even with all that is going on, Ayase and Hinana are cuties.
