Immortal #2

The Jack

Rate this book
An impossible choice.

Should he save the woman he loves but can never have, protect humanity, or avoid a prison sentence that would stretch for eternity?

Archer is a half breed, caught between two opposing heritages - the Jacks, a bloodthirsty race who kills for sport, and the Readers, a docile race trying to save humankind. Two years ago, he betrayed the Readers, though, in a last-minute change of heart, saved them from ultimate destruction. But now he’s all alone, wallowing in unrequited love.

Sadie is an Immortal Seer with a dangerous calling: she must hunt down and destroy the last of the vengeful Jacks. But her quirky humor and gentle spirit make her an unlikely fit for the job.

Archer is drawn to Sadie’s pure, kindhearted nature, rekindling hope he might not have to live a solitary life, but he has no idea the danger he’s in.

When fate forces the mortal enemies to work together, Sadie must determine which side Archer is on, how much of his charm is real, and if she should follow through with her directive: should she kill him or save him?

MK has always been a voracious reader. After hitting a dry spell of reading material, she decided to write the kind of book she'd like to read.

This resulted in the creation of her debut novel, Intentional. (Award for Best Sweet Romance - eFestival of Words- August 2014)

Unintentional, her second book, is based on the life of one of the characters in Intentional. Unintentional was written as a stand-alone book.

Breaking Braydon, Taking Tiffany, The Reader, The Jack, and Famous by Default have all been released on Amazon.

Ashes, the first book in a new series of modern-day fairy tale retellings, releases in May 2022. (Five more books in the series to follow)

When she's not writing novels, she likes to spend her free time traveling the world, splashing in mud puddles (She lives in Seattle, what can she say?), watching movies and reading (!)

She LOVES to hear from her readers!

The Jack is the second book in The Immortal Series by M.K Harkins. This is an extremely good New Adult fantasy- full of action mystery, suspense, danger, secrets, emotion, intrigue, and romance. Although you could read this book as a standalone, I really recommend reading The Reader before setting off on this adventure. The Reader is where we meet Archer and what happens in that book really sets the tone and direction of Archer’s story, so having all that information would be highly beneficial, and allow you to fully comprehend the situation, character, motivation, and back story.
I must admit that I was quite interested to see how this story would unfold, especially considering the events in the previous book. I had several scenarios and directions that I thought the story might take. BUT……THERE WAS NO WAY THAT I COULD HAVE EVER PREDICTED ANY OF THE EVENTS IN THIS BRILLIANT STORY!!! WOW!!! My mind is still reeling with it all. I’m still thinking about it several days later. A sure sign of a really great story! Fantastic!
There is quite a lot going on between the covers of this book, and I enjoyed following along as everything played out. I can always rely on Ms. Harkins to deliver a captivating story, no matter the genre, and this story/series is testament to that. It’s been two years since The Reader, but within minutes it was all coming back to me, and I was once more fully immersed in the fantastic world that Ms. Harkins created. Ms. Harkins uses her wonderful word-smithing capabilities to craft interesting and unforgettable characters, as well as an extraordinary world in which her characters, and story, come to life. Her attention to detail, intricately woven plot, descriptive language and phrases, are fantastic- painting my mind with vivid images. Then there were the twists and turns that left me quite speechless- she’s such a clever storyteller!!!!! These incredibly surprising developments really had me in a flipping frenzy, devouring the pages to find out what happens and how it all works out. I was definitely hooked from the very beginning and didn’t set it down until I had consumed the whole thing- reading it in one sitting. That ending! OMG- I wasn’t ready to leave! I need to know more! Please let there be another instalment in the works!!!
As always, I am looking forward to Ms. Harkin’s next book- whatever it may be.

Thank you, Ms. Harkins!

I have dishes stacked in the sink, a load of laundry sitting in the washer, beds not made, floors not washed and a pot of coffee that has mysteriously disappeared. Why am I telling this to you, you ask? I have spent the past few hours with my nose in my laptop screen, reading "The Jack" I sat down to start reading it and was so into it, NOTHING got accomplished today, except reading "The JACK" and drinking an entire pot of coffee.
I have always wanted to give my opinion to/on an author, and now this is my opportunity to tell other readers out there what I thought of MK Harkins “The Jack”. I read the first book “The Readers” and LOVED it. “The Jacks” , (The Immortal Series Book Two), has captivated me and kept my attention from start to finish.
OMG, MK Harkins…. rocked it!
The introduction was a great add, as I had read the Readers, awhile back, it was great to read as a reminder of the Readers or as a first-time reader of the story.
I usually see the "who did it" in books and movies, before they are revealed. And you blew my mind with the reveals... LOVED IT!
I almost cried during a chapter, ... my hand actually went to my mouth, as I gasped out loud, tears welling in my eyes as I pictured the deep eternal sorrow she had to be experiencing.
The ending……I HATED…. which is a great thing! I hated it because it ended!
How do I know it’s an exceptional story: I sat down and read the entire thing. I had a "movie" of it in my head. I can’t get it out of my head after finishing it and it’s still in my head today…. and I want MORE!!!
I LOVED the story!
Thank you so much, MK Harkins, I have really enjoyed my Saturday morning and afternoon with The Jack and all the characters you've brought to life with your phenomenal story telling abilities!!!

The Jack (The Immortal Series Book Two) by M.K. Harkins was a entertaining engaging read that had my hooked.

Not my first read by this author or in this series, and though this book takes place two years after The Reader ends, this is still a continuation series so I suggest reading the first book before this one, as it will give you much needed info on the character's backstory and, the even that takes place before The Jack.

I have to say, that this book was a tad bit better than the first, there were still some scenes that felt rushed, like the first book, but the overall plot was a bit more polished and being told in duel POV really added something special to this read. Again this book has the same picturesque writing as the first and expands on that original story and tale that M.K. Harkins created.

I like Archer in the first book, he really got the short end of the stick. But I'm glad this story follows him and his journey to redemption and finally getting those shadows lifted. Sadie was a okay character, for someone that's live for two millina, she sure was nice. I don't know, if that was me, I don't think I would be that kind, or sane.

Overall this book was the perfect addition to this unique tale. I was drawn in from the start, and though there some pacing issues, the plot was gitty, the characters well-rounded and connecting. I give this book my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.

Happy Reading

Please read THE READER (Book 1 of The Immortal Series) first. THE JACK (Book 2 of the series) is an amazingly fantastically layered story and it is my opinion that it will be a much more satisfying read if read in order. There are a lot of nuances and characters for which the groundwork is layed in the first book.

Ok, now my review... Today was an incredibly busy day being an adult. After finally getting home at 7pm, I started reading THE JACK and realized this was a book that deserved a pleasant treat while reading. As quickly as I devoured a pint of ice cream, I turned the pages of this book.

THE JACK is everything I was hoping it to be and 100% more. It has complex plots and twists and all the goodness that comes from the author's brain. It is a visually appealing book and I was able to "watch it unfold" as I read along.

I do not write spoilers in my reviews so I am choosing to say nothing about the storyline. Just know that this series is in my top five reads of 2018.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read.

After reading book 1 in the series, I was looking forward to The Jack and wasn’t disappointed. It was abound with romantic tension, suspenseful action and surprise twist and turns that blew my mind.
Archer is of mixed blood, first he betrayed people who trusted him, now he’s attempting to help them. He’s really in a quandary though, he has many choices he can choose from, but each has it’s own consequences, which will have the best outcome for them all? Which will Archer choose?
An exciting, edge of the seat read, well written and very entertaining.

This one begins 2 years after the first book and focuses on Archer, who was a side character in book 1. This second book had just as many twists and turns as the first! I especially enjoyed the way the author seamlessly weaved together elements of mystery, suspense, and romance.

I really just think that this series doesn’t have the love it deserves and more people should read it!! Overall, “The Jack” is a highly enjoyable read that I would recommend to fans of YA!!

This author has come a long way since releasing her first book, but I've been a fan since then. Hard to pick a favorite series, and PNR isn't a genre I read a lot of, but both The Reader and The Jack were immensely enjoyable, quick and easy to read, and thrilling to the end.

What I liked most about The Jack is Archer. *swoon* I prefer the bad boy, and Archer fits the bill, but not overly so. He's a misfit who's lost his way among other things, like the woman he loved, but then Sadie comes along and she's unlike anyone he's ever met.

I won't give away any details here, just know this is a book you won't regret buying. It has all the requisite elements of a great read: fast, thrilling plot, interesting, fleshed out characters, 2 wonderful voices, authentic dialog, and a fast pace that'll keep you in your favorite reading chair all day til you finish it...yes, in one setting. That's how good it is, and I'm a very picky reader. Highly recommended!

Now, if we could just get this author to write The Seer, we'd be all set with the most perfect trilogy ever!

I loved this story! Great continuation of characters and the pace was just right for all the action. Not steamy and not lame, I think I'm over the overly sexual books. I love her writing style and voice.

The Jack, by MK Harkins, is book two of The Immortal series.

This review contains spoilers, by necessity.

I was apprehensive about reading a second series book without reading the first, but after a few chapters, I picked up that Archer, the lead character, had done many unspeakable things in the prior book, and he betrayed his race of Readers and tried to force Ann, who was destined to be with his best friend Devon, to marry him, killing the race of Seers in the process. Book one sounds like a good story.

The premise of the series, that three major races of immortals coexist with humans, is interesting. The world-build is easy, because it is earth with this addition. The story line is good versus evil, with the third race, the Jacks, providing the evil. While "all" of the Jacks (save Archer) were apparently killed in the first book, clearly there must be some left behind, or the story would be over.

After the initial re-hash of the prior volume, I found the story excellent. I loved the characters of Archer and Sadie, and the interplay as they fell in love. The addition of Ian, a love interest for Sadie, played well into the story-line. The drama of an attempt to murder the entire Reader group, presumably by the new or leftover Jacks, was well written.

While reading, I was generally enjoying the strong writing and well-developed characters, although one could argue that there were too many lead characters to follow, and the constant switching of perspective from Archer to Sadie could be slightly negative at times.

However, at the climax, the story falls apart. The Jacks have already tried to kill the entire "good guy" group, and when the clever plan to split away the strongest from the others works perfectly, instead of simply killing their adversaries, they pull the Saturday morning cartoon move of tying them up. This action is entirely uncharacteristic, and it effectively ruins the book. At that point, you start thinking, why didn't the Seers see that the guy who went out for sandwiches during the bombing was clearly the spy? How did the Readers not read the minds of the bad guys who were living right with them? And if they gave the cat valium, wouldn't that make it MUCH EASIER to read it's mind? Come on! And the killer--Was Sadie really given 10 minutes to use a necklace to unbind her hands, and then find a gun that she had taped under the chair to allow her to shoot all of the bad guys before they even noticed? Sorry, but that just isn't plausible.

The penultimate twist of giving Sadie anterograde amnesia from PTSD of having to shoot all of the bad guys isn't necessary, and also strains credulity. However, the final Jack clone hiding in the bushes out front IS a good bit, so at least it ended with something plot-related that works.

I read the e-book, and I assume they will be fixing the doubled period, the "e" standing alone, and the misspelled "Sade" near the end, and I forgive those errors and only mention them for the author in case nobody else has pointed them out. Do a document search for these and fix them for the next rewrite.

However, the big problem here is that the plot relies on an uncharacteristic move by the antagonists. It's simply not believable and it destroys what is otherwise a very well written book. I strongly suggest rewriting the climax to remain true to the bad guys. This has the makings of a very good book once the giant plot hole is repaired.

Picking up where the last book left off The Jack follows Archer on his road to redemption. What’s so lovely about redemption stories is that we get to see the complications that come with wanting to redeem one’s self. Archer was a minor character in the previous novel, and now he finally gets to shine. He seems so different than he was in the previous novel because two years have passed, allowing him to think on all the lies that led to his betrayal, lies he thought of as truth, forcing him now to come to terms with his actions and the consequences. It is very nice to see his character grow. In the previous novel, again, he was a minor character and very flat, static. That was okay because the story was not about him and he was, very much, a plot device. Everything is different now. Now he has a chance to shine, and he has that chance to shine. Archer is far more enigmatic in this novel than he was not a previous novel his narrative the description of his little twitches, quirks, and personality make him jump off the pages.

He is not the only character that gets to shine. Their’s Sadie who is the last Seer. Sadie has lived her life and isolation because the Jacks killed all the other Seers. So naturally, she harbors this resentment and hatred toward all things Jack including Archer understandably even though he is only half, Jack. Ultimately the fact that the story goes between Archer and Sadie makes the story thrive. It is a very different formula than the previous novel that only followed one person’s perspective, but now the story goes back and forth between the male perspective in a female perspective and two characters who have similar common denominators as far as their lives are concerned.

Both characters are very different than what Harkins has given readers in the previous novel. They have different dynamics that make the story flow. Their romance is also very different than the previous novel, and both characters have such defining qualities that make them likable to the reader.

It is an entertaining story, and much like its predecessor, its fast pace it keeps moving it is honestly novel one could probably read one day because it just moves so quickly. However, there’s also a lot going on in the story. Some scenes just like in the previous novel do seem a little rushed, but they do not hinder the story or distracted reader. However there's still so much history that could be explored, there's so much in the backstory that could make this novel have a higher level of depth than it already has.

Ultimately at the end of the day, it is an excellent novel to rain because it just moves very quickly, keeps the readers on their toes and has fantastic character development.

Standalone, Excellent Editing, Entertaining, Highly Recommend.

This book and the first one in the series, ‘The Reader’ were excellent paranormal romances. ‘The Jack’ is the second standalone book in the series that has continuing characters and an overarching storyline. ‘The Reader’ had a satisfying and natural conclusion, and this volume, ‘Jack’, picked up with the same characters, as well as new ones, two years after the conclusion of ‘The Reader ‘. It isn’t necessary to read the first book in the series, but as this second book continues from the first, it does help to read them in order.

Characterization was well done. The hero and heroine were appealing characters who had faced great adversity, but still retained their integrity, love and compassion for others. The hero’s friends from the first volume played a large role in this book and their characterization and actions were consistent throughout both volumes. New central and supporting characters were introduced in this book and they blended well with the original characters from book one. As well, previous villains reappeared and remained suitably evil.

The world building was original and well developed, while continuity was maintained from the first volume. The physical surroundings and the abilities of the three immortal races stayed true to those in book one.

The pace was generally quick and even, except for a very few scenes where the action temporarily slowed.

The plot was entertaining and held my interest. As in the first volume, this book’s plot was based on the universal conflict between good and evil, with one of the three immortal races turning to evil and trying to totally destroy the other two races. Each of the three races has different paranormal abilities which add another entertaining element to the conflict.

I don’t remember any graphic sex scenes or profanity, but I wasn’t looking for them. When I finished the book, though, my response was that it would be suitable for both adolescents and adults.

I highly recommend this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it held my interest. It was well written and had excellent editing. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a third volume, as at the time of the writing of this review. I would definitely buy more books from this author.

I recieved a free copy of this ebook from the author.

summary

The Jack continues 2 years after the fateful event of the first book. We follow Archer and a new MC Sadie, as they set out with the Reader gang(Davon, Ann and Lucy) to uncover more of the visions predistined by their predecessor eons ago.
Meanwhile, Archer's role in the attack is brought to light and with a Seer's help it may clear out the confusion he has faced all these years, but Sadie's destiny os the episode.

Thoughts

This sequel was highly enjoyable, I loved getting back to these characters and they're more fun than ever.
We get in depth into Archer's character and as well as the new MC and they are so fun and sweet together. I absolutely loved how their frenemies relationship progressed throughout the story.

The conflict of the story takes a new turn with creative twists but it followed the same undertone as the previous book's but with more challenges for our characters; the action and how the characters dealt with it in a James bond- Scooby dooby style kept it engaging and entertaining.

Our antagonists were suprising and Im surprised how I didnt have a clue until it happened. There is a lot of thigs happening in this book and were faced with the struggles an tension of having a family and under taking a high risk job, as well as mentall illness is brought up here and its adequetly developed with the character , so you actually get to see its effect as the she interacts with others.

However the resolution of the plot felt rushed, everything was being told to me rather than shown so the thrill I felt when tthings brighten up midway of the story wasnt there since i was being supplied with the ending all at once in a few pages . So it left me a bit underwhelmed since I expected more of the feels from these characters Ive grown to love.

I would love to get to know more of the Ancient times, the period 2000 years ago when everything was being decided, a prequel would be a wonderful addition.
The story finished with an open end, so Im pumped up to get to know more of this world.

Thank you M K Harkins for the oppurtunity to review your book!

The Jack (The Immortal Series Book Two) by M.K. Harkins
5 out of 5 stars

The Jack is the second book in the Immortal series written by M.K. Harkens. I have read a few books by this author and her works get better and better I really enjoy her work. This book/series is a paranormal/romance with difficult choices and betrayal. The characters are well written and amazing I loved the way they interacted with each other. The way this author described the scenery was incredible and I could picture myself there.
Archer is a half breed, caught between two opposing heritages the Jacks, are a bloodthirsty race who kills for sport, and the Readers, are a docile race trying to save humankind. Two years ago, he betrayed the Readers, though, in a last-minute change of heart, saved them from ultimate destruction. But now he’s all alone, wallowing in unrequited love.
Should he save the Anne the woman he loves but can never have, protect humanity, or avoid a prison sentence that would stretch for eternity?
Sadie who is an Immortal Seer and with a vision from her ancestors she is left with a dangerous calling: she must hunt down and destroy the last of the vengeful Jacks. But her quirky humor and gentle spirit make her an unlikely fit for the job.
Archer can’t believe he is drawn to Sadie’s with her pure, kindhearted nature, rekindling hope that he might not have to live a solitary life, but he has no idea the danger he’s in.
When fate forces mortal enemies to work together, Sadie must determine which side Archer is on, how much of his charm is real, and if she should follow through with her directive: should she kill him or save him? Is he the last Jack? Are they are soul mates?
This is a great paranormal read and can’t wait to see what Ms. Harkins has in-store for us in her next book in this series…

The Jack (The Immortal Series Book 2)
By: M.K. Harkins
5 out of 5 stars

The story The Jack (The Immortal Series Book 2) by M.K. Harkins is a fantasy book that I loved reading. It is a book that hooked me in from the very beginning and I found myself not wanting to put it down until I had finished the last page. It is a story that has action, mystery, and danger. I loved reading about the characters of Archer and Sadie. Sadie is a girl who is conflicted about the way that she feels about Archer. She has a choice that she must make regarding him and it is one that has huge consequences. You could say it could be life or death. Sadie is kindhearted and a lovable character. Archer is a half-breed and also an outcast. The Readers don’t trust him however it seems that they have a situation that requires them to join forces. Archer is attracted to Sadie. When they touch it is electric and there are sparks between them. These two can’t stop thinking about each other. Where will their feelings lead them? There are evil forces making and executing plans. Will Archer, Sadie, and the Readers be able to stop the evil at work? Read this book to find out. This story had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. It is addictive and a page-turner. The story also includes some romance. I enjoyed reading about the other characters that interact with Archer, Sadie, and each other. This is a wonderfully written book that I would highly recommend reading. It is the second book in a series and that I believe should be read in order.

I give The Jack (The Immortal Series Book 2) by M.K. Harkins, 4 stars.
*This review may contain spoilers from book 1.*

Archer just exists now. His once best friends hate him. The woman of his dreams is in love with the man he considered like a brother. He cannot move on. But when a woman warns him that his friends are in danger, he cannot only not get her out of his head, he thinks she might be of a race thought to be long gone. Does he warn these people who now hate him?

Sadie is the last seer, and it has been foretold that she is to kill the last Jack. They are an evil race and must be permanently eradicated. But then she starts events that have her surrounded by Archer and the Readers. The more she gets to know Archer, the more she feels for him. Are they sure he is the last Jack? Can she go through with it?

This is such a great book. It has been a while since since I read book 1, and it took a little bit for me to get back into it, but once I did I could not put it down. There is so much going on and so many twists and turns that you will never see what happens next. Incredible writing makes this story even more interesting. Sadie is a great new character and I like how she interacts with the others while keeping her secret to herself.

I recommend reading book one first, but I highly recommend this book and series for lovers of fantasy with some suspense thrown in for good measure.

The Jack is the exciting second book in M.K. Harkins’ The Immortals series. It picks up a couple of years after the first book, The Reader, ended with the extinction of (nearly) all of the Jacks – a race of immortals who bring terror and death to the world.
I’m glad there was a chance for Archer to develop more as a character, following the events of the previous book. It was also great to get to know Sadie – I really liked her as a character (and Eve!). The way she’d struggled over the years with her immortality and the mortality of everyone around her reminded me of other characters, such as The Doctor in Doctor Who and Tom Hazard in How To Stop Time. Many of the other characters from The Reader had a role, and it was good to see how they’d grown in the time between the books and look at them from different perspectives.
I love the fantasy world M.K. Harkins has created! I’m a big fan of urban fantasy and the meeting of the real world and something other. There’s also a bit of a sci-fi feel to it as the various immortal races employ advanced science and technology.
For me, this is a five star book. I’m really enjoying this series. It’s very original, intriguing and well developed. I’d recommend it to sci-fi and fantasy fans, especially if you like stories about immortal characters.

The Jack was a great 5 star read and book 2 in The Immortal Series.
I was excited to get started on this read to see where the series was going next with Archer.

We get pulled in right from the beginning when Archer is sitting on the beach watching the one woman he loved but would never have because of choices that were made years before. When Sadie sits down next to him, something happens that causes him to make a choice.

By warning Archer, Sadie has revealed her true self, she panics and takes off. When Archer reveals how he knew of the impending danger, he is convinced to help search for Sadie.

What will happen when they find her? Will they work together or against each other?

I really liked Sadie, she tugged at my heart strings, especially with the years spent alone. Archer was great as well and when he connects with Sadie you can feel the connection. There is so much to this great story, suspense, twists, secrets, tears, and a little bit of romance for good measure. All of the secondary characters added a great element to the story. The Jack can be read as a stand alone, but I feel you will understand things so much better if you start with book 1. I can’t wait to get started on the next book in the series.

The Jack is book 2 and should be read after book one called The Reader. This series is off to a fantastic, adventurous start. I enjoyed reading this book and learning about the newest characters. Some characters return from book one and others are new to us.

The bottom line is essentially the same as book one. Good versus evil. There were three groups unknown to humans, trying to make the world a better place. One group, The Jacks, decided to turn away from good, while the Readers and the Seers continued making peace. After a war between the groups it was believed that all of the Jacks were destroyed. However, we have book 2 telling us a different story!

The story line is a little different in that, Sadie who is a Seer, must fulfill the vision of destroying the last of the Jacks. But Harkins has other plans! Archer is that last known Jack and while he has his own secrets he must earn back the trust of his friends who are seers and readers.

I liked how this story kept the mystery of the three groups, humans still don’t know they exist. I liked how the characters worked together with their powers to find out the truth. This story was easy to read as are Harkins other books. Definite recommendation for anyone liking a little adventure in a fantasy world!

This book was soooo good. I was captivated from the first pages and stayed hooked until the end. If this series has any more books I will so be checking them out.

Archer has had a difficult life. Being raised by Readers for most of his life he had everything. Good friends and a happy life. Outside of his father hating him he had everything he ever wanted. Then he found out he was half-Jack and has spent the last two years alone after betraying his family. When a girl comes up to him and tells him to save his friends-he does. Now he's working with them again to find the remaining Jack's and the Seer who warned him about the danger his friends were facing. He doesn't expect to ever like someone again. Until Sadie.

Sadie has spent a very long time alone. As the last remaining Seer, she tries not to get close to too many people. One last prophecy told by her people was that she would kill the last Jack. She's been watching Archer for two years, hoping beyond everything that he isn't the last Jack. When she saves his friends lives they are thrown together to fight off the coming war.

I so enjoyed this story. Sadie and Archer were so cute together. Sadie after being alone so long is a bit awkward and totally clumsy. Archer is grumpy and has been hurt and betrayed by everyone he's ever loved. They were the perfect combination. I enjoyed all the scenes with them together.

Seriously enjoyed this book. The storyline was original. The characters were fun, and the writing was fantastic. Can't wait to read more about this world.

The Jack by M.K. Harkins is the second book in The Immortal series. As good as the first book this book will be sure to keep you reading to the end.
Archer lives his life each day stuck between two opposing sides. A position he is responsible for since the betrayed he readers. It doesn’t matter that he saved them from destruction, only that he betrayed them in the first place.
So when he meets the immortal seer Sadie, he is not surprised to find out she is on a mission to destroy the remaining Jacks.
And yet the sparks between them are a bit hard to ignore. And when they are forced to work together more closely than anticipated it might be that the mission is no longer quite that simply.

This series is genuinely shaping up be to great. Another book that is just as riveting as the first was. I love the way this author fully immersed you in this world of Jacks and Readers. It is so easy to imagine yourself as part of the world they live in. I loved that you could also feel Archer’s turmoil and the difficult position he is in. This was a great book and I am looking forward to what else is to come.

The Jack, The Immortal Series Book Two, by M.K. Harkins is a contemporary fantasy novel. I highly recommend reading the series in order so that you learn back history on several of the characters that are paramount, front and center in The Jack. The Jack is the follow-up story to The Reader. In The Jack, Asher takes the stage either to surpass all expectations or to fall into the depths everyone believes he belongs within. I thought I knew Asher's character after reading the first book of the series, but M.K. Harkins quickly strips that away adding additional depth and dimension to his character. We continue on unimaginable journeys these characters are forced to embark upon in the chance of finding their happiness and something to strive for. The dynamic between the characters, whether friends, enemies or a mix of both, was well laid out. I felt transported into this story as the series of events occurs from scene to scene. The emotional attachment, the longing, the hope, it was all spectacularly written to the final chapters. M.K. Harkins is showcasing her writing genius in this series, it's something to behold!!

What an amazing second book of the Immortal Series, the Jack. I really like MK Harkins and she does an amazing job writing for the YA audience. The YA audience needs specialized talent to write a book and not lose their interest with in the first couple of pages. To be real I was hooked with in the first couple of paragraphs. As I stated this is the second book and to really get the story line I recommend reading the first book The Reader. There is a familiar name Archer from The Reader. Archer is trying to decide his destiny by helping the Readers, but that group does not trust him or protect the humanity. Archer has to do some soul searching for that answer. There is Sadie who is new to the series. She is an Immortal Seer which means she needs to rid the world of the dangerous Jacks. MK Harkins sets her us to be this beautiful young lady who will not be able to carry out her calling. She is trying to find out who is who and what she needs to do. Will she be able to carry her role or will she be unable to do so? Will Archer step up and help Sadie? You will have to read the book to find out.

“The Jack” is the second book in the riveting The Immortal series by MK Harkins. Please read “The Reader” first so you know what is going on! First of all, I just need to say “HOLY MOLEY!!” “The Jack” was SO good! I knew it would be, because I LOVED “The Reader” and this series is blowing my mind how good it is! “The Jack” gives us a different perspective than “The Reader” but with the same main characters, plus the lovely addition of Sadie. This story is about Archer and Sadie, a mysterious woman that Archer meets while keeping an eye on Devon and Ann. I won’t give away details but I was so surprised by the direction MK Harkins has taken with this book and makes me so excited to read more about these amazing characters! The story is so different that any story I have ever read and I’m eating it up! The originality, surprise twists and amazing imagery make this book a must read page-turner! So much love for MK Harkins and the mind blowing The Immortal series! I give “’The Jack” five whole hearted stars! I wish I could give more to truly convey how much I loved this book!! MK Harkins, PLEASE keep them coming!!

4 Stars!!

Poor Archer! Talk about having the weight of the world on your shoulders... or in this case humanity.

This is the first book I have read by M. K. Harkins.

The Jack was a twisty, suspense-filled read. The romance is great, not too angsty and fairly tame. This is because, while the romantic aspect plays a big part in the story, it isn't the entire story. There are many twists and turns throughout the book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Difficult choices must be made. Consequences must be considered. Sadie and Archer are great characters with interesting backstories. Sadie's was less developed than Archers, but there was enough.

I enjoyed The Jack, but I think I would have liked it more had I read the first book in the series. My understanding is that they are all interconnected standalones, but I think I would have had a better understanding of their world if I had read The Reader. That being said, I was able to get right into the book and it didn't deter me in any way.

The Jack (The Immortal Series book 2)
By M.K. Harkins
5 stars

I absolutely LOVE this author! Every book that I have read of hers I have loved and after reading ‘The Reader’ book 1 in this series I was really excited to get my hands on the second book. It was everything I expected and more, I was hooked from the very first page. The authors writing was just so easy to read, the words flowed seamlessly and it really was a pleasure to be immersed in such an amazing story. The characters were amazing and well thought out again – I’m still very much in love with Archer!! There were some great and unexpected twists and turns in the story, I loved the romance, the fantasy – in all honesty I loved all of it!
The Jack is another fantastic read by M.K. Harkins, I’m sure it would appeal to a variety of readers, especially YA, fantasy lovers and of course those romantics out there! The heat level is perfect for the story and not too much angst either!
I absolutely recommend this book and book 1 in the series also!

The Jack is the second book in M.K. Harkins’ Immortal series and I recommend you read it straight after finishing the first book as then everything is fresh in your mind and you might be a bit disappointed in Archer but … this is his book, his redemption, his journey …
Archer is a Jack … and he is a Reader … he is a hybrid that is caught between two adversary races … and then there are the Seers … the avenging hunters of Jacks and protectors of Readers … and who is Archer? It will all come down to what he chooses …
The Jack is also Sadie’s story … Sadie who is pure, kind-hearted and … destroyer or Jacks! What a contradiction – gentle heart and a cold hearted killer …. How does one reconcile it? What will happen when Archer and Sadie’s paths cross … who will survive … is there a way for them to be together … do you dare to open yourself up and be gifted with friendship and love …
I hope it will not be the last book as there is so much more that the writer could grace us with … I have a whole movie running around in my head!

I was so excited when I found out that there was going to be a second book to after M.K. Harkins’s, The Reader. I had enjoyed that one but, felt it was a tad rushed and needed more or at least had more to give. I would recommend reading the first book before you jump into this one. It would set up the world and explain things a bit for you.

That all said this is the story of Archer and Sadie. I really enjoyed these two. Archer is stuck between a rock and a hard place really. He has had been both the good guy and still yet he had betrayed those he helped and become their enemies now. Things get even more interesting when he meets Sadie. She just happens to be on the lookout for guys like Archer. But when they touch there is a magic there that they have never felt before. To make matters worse, fate has thrust them into working together. As you can imagine this makes for some pretty interesting reads… but for that you will have to pick up the book for yourself to see. I personally can’t wait to find out what comes next in The Immortal Series. Happy Reading!

The Jack (The Immortal Series Book 2) By MK Harkins. This story had me completely hooked from page one. I had a little trouble in book one but those troubles are way in the past. I highly recommend reading these in order to really enjoy this world the author has brought readers. This fantasy story is much more than just that, it has romance, suspense and action. While we watch Archer and Sadie’s book unfold be ready for an incredible journey and adventure. The author writes a story that completely comes to life before you eyes with great attention to details and characters that are just as flawed and relatable as anyone living on earth. There was definitely times where I had to remind myself I was reading a story and not living it. It’s an amazingly written story that can’t be truly compared to any other storyline. It’s well thought out and paced nicely. The characters drag you into their world and I had a hard time leaving when all was said and done. I’m giving this book a five star review and highly recommend this book.

The Jack is the second novel in the Immortal series by M. K. Harkins. This is my third novel by this author.

A half breed, Archer, is torn between two races, The Jacks which are a race who kill for sports and The Readers, a race that is trying to save mankind.

Years before, Archer betrays the Readers and ever since has been living alone and filled with unrequited love.

But when Archer becomes drawn to Sadie who is not only a Seer but has been given the task of killing him, which side will win? Will Sadie be able to kill him or will her heart sway her from her mission?

I really enjoyed this novel. I love novels where people have forbidden love and are able to overcome the obstacles to finally be happy with someone.

Even though it’s set two years after the first book, I really didn’t feel lost at while reading and was very engaged in the plot.

I liked Archer’s characters who is trying to seek redemption and I loved his journey and really felt for him.

I hope we get another book in the series.
