Cozy Corgi #7

Quarrelsome Quartz

Rate this book
A New Age conference comes to Estes Park, Colorado, bringing a cacophony of tie-dye, crystals, and murder…
As summer draws to a close, the Spirit, Health, and Heart Conference arrives, just in time for Winifred’s sisters to open their store next to the Cozy Corgi Bookshop. To Fred’s surprise, Chakras turns out to be a beautiful addition to the delightful mountain town. The shop even has a room so pleasing in its crystal tranquility that Fred’s corgi, Watson, approves—and hardly anything impresses him.
But not everyone is charmed by the crystals, tarot readings, and messages of personal enlightenment. When a famous spiritualist is found dead, Chakras and the entire town is plunged into a conflict that touches the lives of those closest to Fred.
Although she is hesitant to become involved, it is simply not in the cards for Fred to sit out the investigation. As she and Watson embark on a journey that forces them to take a look into the darker shadows of Estes Park, Fred soon finds herself digging into the secrets of those she loves… (This culinary cozy mystery includes a recipe for delectable quiches.)

These books are just so damn comforting. I'm a 30 year old man who turns into a 70 year old woman every time a new one comes out, reading under blankets with herbal tea and The Golden Girls playing in the background.

This might be the best one yet. Fred’s sisters have opened their New Age shop, coinciding with the appearance of a famous couple in the movement. Aurora and Wolf bring some uproar to Estes and then Aurora’s murder causes a bit more. It was good to see some of the newer characters in the mix, although the regulars make appearances too. Ben and Nick add thoughtful commentary to the narrative, where their heritage is concerned. Zelda and Verona provide a little study on the effects of a twin-bond. This investigation focuses more on Fred’s dynamic with her newer family members along with a tastefully presented display of diverse spirituality. There’s a decided lack of any romantic possibilities as far as Fred is concerned, although there’s one who’s sure they’d make beautiful red-headed babies together. There’s always a humorous element in Fred’s world. The villain is quite hard to guess in this clever plot. Many of the elements in this installment were quite meaningful as well. This is my favorite of the series so far!

We’re back in Estes Park and things are really hopping. A New Age Conference is beginning and there’s lots of new faces, some of them famous. When one of the headliners is found dangling at the end of a rope, wrapped in crystals, Fred and Watson are once again on the case. Fred is hard pressed to solve this quickly as some people she cares deeply about are on the suspect list. And some of them don’t want her digging too deep.

This was a bit of a change for Estes Park. Usually Fred is the only one to ruffle the feathers of it’s inhabitants. But when a group gets them all riled up, they’re divided and fingers are pointed at neighbors and friends. This made the mystery even harder to figure out.

After having read the previous six books in this series, I’ve come to know the characters that roam these pages. I’ve learned there secrets. Walked the streets and visited their shops when Fred and Watson went sniffing for clues. And enjoyed seeing how they react to different situations. I wonder how it would feel to visit Estes Park. I imagine I’d be putting faces to characters from these pages. And I know I’d be on the lookout for Fred and Watson.

Quarrelsome Quartz was another delightful mystery. Every time I start the next book in this series I have my fingers crossed it will be as fun as the last one was. I’m happy to say it was and I’m now waiting anxiously to get my hands on the next book.

I received a complimentary copy. My review is voluntarily given.

Quarrelsome Quartz by Mildred Abbot is the last book in my stack of cozy Corgi mysteries. I have enjoyed my time solving mysteries with Fred and Watson.

The Cozy Corgi Bookshop and Bakery is doing great and Fred’s twin sisters just opened the New Age shop right beside them. A big to do is planned for the opening, but…it’s Estes Park and things rarely goes as planned.

The shop fits into the small town of Estes Park, Colorado perfectly. We have an eclectic group of people that keep life interesting.

What’s that? Watson smells a….dead body…and they are on the case.

Hunky Sheriff Branson is still pining after Fred, though she has made it clear they are only friends. Fred doesn’t know what she wants when it comes to romance.

Sue, one of the cops, and Fred have an antagonistic relationship, but Chief Briggs, who she’d only had one other encounter with, fills her with fear. Could it stem from her father’s murder?

I love Watson and all his Corgi cuteness and it sure was nice to visit with him and Fred, and the rest of her family, for lots of chuckles and a light mystery. Being fairly new to Estes Park, each book brings Fred closer to her family.

AND, we have a lovely quiche to prepare and you may enjoy while reading.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Quarrelsome Quartz by Mildred Abbott.

The 7th book in this series is about Fred (winifred) twin step sisters Verona and Zelda opening their shop Charakas. Fred love her family her mom and Step dad Barry and her uncle's and Step sisters but she does not believe in tarot card readings of such like that like the twins believe. So when their shop grand opening is right next door they have a new age couple Auoria and Wolf. They are very known around. have decided to be their hosts. Wolf gives some of the guests reading including Fred but she does not really want it done. But she decides to play along since its her step twins grand opening. And it shocks Fred what Wolf tells her

Verona and Zelda are starting to get abbreviated at each other. And both of them have secrets to hide. They start seeing how Aurioa acts and is mean. Her husband is just the opposite. Wolf and Aurioa decide to make a introduction as such and protesters started throwing bibles at them. I have read 7 books so far from this series. Love them. Love little Watson the corgi. All the characters I really like. I myself would like to know them. A tight knit family of family and friends

Another fun mystery!

Book 7 and I'm still loving this series. I feel like I know this town and the people now. The mystery is a good one, I never did guess it right. Love these characters, they're so familiar after 7 books. The setting is wonderful. Really, for me this is a classic Cozy Mystery series. On to Book 8!

All these books are absolutely adorable and I love that with each book you learn more about the lead character as well as secondary characters. I hope these books keep coming for a long time. They definitely define a "cozy mystery."

Fred’s stepsisters are in trouble in this book. The murder of a new age guru the sisters appeared to be enamored with brings trouble to the family. Fred is reluctant to get involved but come on, it’s Fred. Everyone looks at her skeptically when she insists she’s not going to investigate, because they can all the the writing on the wall, Fred will stick her nose in it.

Verona’s secret was a bit ridiculous, and to stay in jail over that 🙄 but that’s a cozy for ya. The murderer was a bit sympathetic in this one, not condoning at all the murder, but the writing was very good in terms of getting the reader to sympathize/empathize with him/her.

Overall, the book focused on family bonds, betrayals, bigotry, prejudice, cultural appropriation, and forgiveness,

Estes Park, Colorado is about to host the
Spirit, Health and Heart Conference with
a famous spiritualist to be the main speaker.
Winifred ( Fred) Page runs the Cozy Corgi
Bookshop along with her furry baby, Watson
the Corgi.
Her sisters, Verona and Zelda have converted
the old candy shop next to the bookshop
into a New Age store named Chakras. The
store even has a crystal tranquility room.
But the tranquility is disrupted when the
main speaker is found dead in this room
with quartz necklaces hang around her neck.
When her sisters became suspects, Fred
and Watson jump into the investigation to
prove their innocence.
An interesting, entertaining murder mystery
filled with information about crystals and
their powers, tarot cards and spirituality.
The characters were all realistic, well
defined, some quirky, some with dark
secrets involved in a well plotted murder
mystery.
This is book # 7 in the Cozy Corgi Mysteries
series. It can be read as a stand-alone as
the author mixes the past and present
effortlessly.

The Cozy Corgi series is consistent in its mix of mystery, humor, and drama. Quarrelsome Quartz delves into the family dynamics of MC Winifred Page, when her stepsister is suspected of murder. The family conflicts add an interesting element, though her stepsisters' secrets (a love of junk food and a shoe designing career, respectively) seem silly to an outsider. Though I do wonder if perhaps Fred should run for sheriff, considering the ineptitude of the Estes Park police department in this book series.

I'd also like to congratulate Mildred Abbott for coming up with a clever title using the letter Q, for those of us who do alphabet or spell-it-out challenges.

The Spirit, Health, and Heart Conference has arrived at Estes Park. Fred has stocked her Cozy Corgi bookshop with topical books for the attendees. Her step sisters Zelda and Verona have filled their new age shop Chakras, next door to The Cozy Corgi, with whimsical windchimes, statues, and jewelry. Even Katie, Fred’s partner in the bookshop is offering mini quiches for everyone in the gift shop to sample. Spending time in Chakras, Fred finds Aurora Birnbaum to be arrogant and dismissive, not at all the reality of the gracious image she effects. On the first day of the conference, at a vast gathering for the community event, Aurora as the conference leader looks every bit the ethereal new age icon. Standing with her husband Wolf they begin to lead the crowd in a meditation, in front of the bronze stature of the town’s beloved elk. A small group of Bible holding people walk through the attendees shouting and pointing at the Birnbaums saying, “you are servants of Satan and should be cast out from our town.” An ongoing debate goes between the religious group and the Birnbaums, as Detective Branson steps forward to mitigate the conversations, however the group begins to throw copies of the Bible at Aurora and Wolfe all the while screaming that they are evil and only care for profit.
With this fascinating beginning to the story, Mildred Abbott gives the reader what are obviously subtle clues to a murder, but chapter by chapter, nothing seems to click. Even Fred with her trusty sidekick Watson is at a loss. Add in a few new characters such as the portly, epicurean Pastor Davis and new insights to her stepfather Barry’s devotion to family, yet solving the newest Cozy Mystery is just out of reach. As much as I hate for the mystery to end, there is always a recipe waiting from Katie and while the most recent book is usually my favorite, I am eagerly waiting for the next!!

Is it Book #7 already ? Time surely flies!!!! I can slip away for a quiet afternoon with Winfred and Watson and see the elk cross the street in Estes Park. I love this series where it’s a Calgon take me away moment.

Our focus is now on the twins, Fred’s stepsisters who are opening a new wave shop next door to the Cozy Corgi. The twins have the Spirit Hearth and Health conference scheduled as well, with a beautiful new room designed at Chakras covered with stones for tranquility .Estes Park and the girls do not need another murder, and they find themselves buried in one that takes place in their own Chakras.

This is the 7th book in this series as we watch Fred and Watson take the reins with help always from Katie and Leo…..hmmm and now also handsome Sgt Branson Wexler….suck up much????

There is something so calming and yet the mystery captures your attention at the same time in this cozy murder series.

Winifred (Fred) and her Corgi, Watson are getting closer to Fred's step-sisters. Verona and Zelda have opened a new age shop, 'Chakras' next door to Fred's bookstore. Fred loves having sisters but has kept a small distance apart, having been an only child. The twins are so excited about their upcoming opening that is coinciding with the new age conference being led by their inspiration, Aurora and Wolf . Their excitement gets tempered when Aurora proves not to be the person they thought she was.

Someone else agrees...and Aurora is found murdered in Chakras. Verona is accused and Fred goes on the trail to find the real killer.

Watson stands guard with his purloined stuffed lion. Why is he so attached to this particular toy? Watson never does anything without intention, as Fred has learned.

This gentle tale with lots of twists and turns (even quiche recipes,) makes this cozy a delight to read and savor!

Watson is the coolest dog on the planet

Terrific. Her sister's and brothers have nearly finished getting their shops ready for opening. However the planned spiritual conference is making her twin sisters fall out. Why? What is the secret that one of them is being blackmailed about? Things get worse when a zealous church group attack the couple leading the spiritual movement. Then when one of the couple is found dead and the twin is arrested for murder, she knows that she has to investigate. There is something missing. A great plot and I must admit that I had discarded the culprit and was taken aback when I was proved wrong. Great characters but Watson with his stuffed lion and duck really steals the show.

The town of Estes has another murder on its hands and this time Fred isn't all that sure she wants to be the one to solve it. With a New Age conference invading the town, the twins are heavily involved with the events as well as opening their new shop Chakras. But things take a turn for the dark side again and with awkward run ins with Branson and the police chief, Fred thinks about sitting this one out. All of the elements come into play in this book and we have lots of interesting new characters as well as our old favorites sprinkled throughout. Watson is his same adorable, grouchy self and steals the scene several times during this mystery. I loved all of the twists and the closeness of Fred's family in the end. I definitely can't wait until the next book!

Fred has been rebuilding her life and now we get to see even more of a personal aspect by the addition of her step sisters. Seems like Fred isn't the only one who attracts murder and mystery because the dead body of her sisters' idol is found in their store next door. Fred being Fred, she can't keep her nose out of it. Watson proves, yet again, that dogs have a true intuition about situations. Sometimes as humans, we often overlook little things that actually add up to be BIG things! Another good cozy mystery in the series -- I'd love to see Fred grow in the romance department a little more!

I have volunteered to share my review and all the opinions are 100% my own.

Mildred Abbott has done it again! Quarrelsome Quartz may be my fave story yet in the Cozy Corgi series! Quarrelsome Quartz is set around the new age store, Chakras, that is owned by Fred’s sisters. This story has some very unexpected twists and turns along with the usual banter and laughs that we have all become accustomed to with this series. I love that when I read these stories I feel like I am visiting old friends.

Is it too soon to ask for the next story in the series?

If you are a fan of Frost's books then Mildred Abbott is for you.

I fell in love with this series since the first book. Every book improves on the last. Better writing, better character development, and of course the plot lines too, however I still want the romance. (Sighing).

If you want a book filled with warm loving characters and a story that involves all great mysteries then this series is just for you.

Quarrelsome Quartz

Another fun adventure with Fred Page and her host of family, friends and some fanatics thrown in for good measure.
This installment explores innate good, good people who do bad things and people who are evil. The murder of someone in the New Age shop leads to the arrest of Fred's stepsister, Verona. Verona was being blackmailed over a secret that not even her twin, Zelda, knows.
It was a bit of a sad ending but sometimes consequences are sad for everyone.
