This is probably my favourite book by Patrick Winters. His first story starts with the improbable situation of the urn of a stranger popping up on someone's work desk. There is a cryptic note attached "Ashes to ashes, me to you - Carl Blanch". This had me locked down to finish the story immediately. It was such a great read. One of the other stories, "Goodnight's Alternative Carnival of Curiosities" is like a mini-masterclass in how to create a great story. The author starts you at an auction where the a peculiar man is obsessed with obtaining a fairground organ with a tainted past. We see the bidding, the warning, and, well I'll let you read the rest.
This book is a cut above many anthologies and each story is an adventure, whether to the fantastical or the world that might feel a little too close. I definitely recommend this book.
