Married to the same man for over 25 years, I am a mother to three children and two Miniature Wiener dogs.

After owning a business and experiencing considerable success, my husband and I got caught in the financial crisis and lost everything in 2008; our business, our home, even our car.

At this point, I put my B.A. in Poly Sci to use and took work as a waitress and bartender (Insert irony). Unwilling to give up on a professional life, I simultaneously went back to college and obtained a degree in Energy Management.

And then the energy market dropped off.

And then my dog died.

I can only be grateful for this series of unfortunate events, for, with nothing to lose and completely demoralized, I sat down and began to write the romance novels which had until then, existed only my imagination.
After publishing over twenty novels now, with one having been nominated for RWA’s Distinguished ™RITA Award in 2019, I am happy to tell you that I have finally found my place in life.

DNF; On-page sex with OW

You’ve got to be fucking kidding me!!!

Barely even two chapters in, right after the Hero dances with the heroine and he leaves her to go meet up with a skank in the library and have on-page sex with her. I immediately DNF’d because life is too short for this kind of putrid slop

I’m so soooo utterly sick of this slimy, disgusting shit metastasizing in romance. EVEN mentions of sex with others is a huge gross NO, but to include on page sex scenes with others is almost abusive.

As a romance reader, having the hero meet the heroine and then go slime around with a skank isn’t romantic. It doesn’t bring the swoon, it’s not cute or thrilling. It should never EVER be something one reads in a romance. It’s repulsive, grotesque and I’m not reading romance to feel sick to my stomach. It kinda defeats the entire purpose of a romance.

It’s seriously not cool and it’s an ugly, disgusting trope that needs to die a bloody, screaming death in the romance genre. Call me crazy, but I kinda want a hero who—after MEETING the heroine—is so obsessed with her, isn’t even interested in looking at another woman, much less shoving his overused, STD-riddled dick into one.

If there was a way to give zero stars for this vomit-inducing trash, I would.

Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happily ever after
Epilogue: No
Format: listened to audiobook from library (hoopla)

Should I read in order?
Maybe, ideally, yes?? The other characters have page time here from earlier in the series and there’s some mentions of various plot points that have happened. For a total rebel reader, you won’t be confused here to start though.

Basic plot:
Emily wants to marry to escape her families plans for her unwed...and Marcus will marry anyone that his father doesn’t approve of...

Give this a try if you want:
- Regency
- house party
- one bed at the inn (minor scene)
- compromised heroine resulting in marriage of necessity-ish
- medium steam – there’s a plethora of scenes here but some are short

Ages:
- didn’t catch either...

First line:
Marcus Roberts, the Earl of Blakely, leaned against the brocaded wall, arms crossed.

My thoughts:
I think I might have liked this one the most so far in the series? It was a bit more character focused than the first two and I enjoyed a lot of their push and pull at each other.

In this one, Marcus is quite tortured by his past. And some of that was frustrating, like when he refused to see the good in what Emily was doing for him and kept focusing on the pain he had. But I enjoyed the emotional pull of this one and how Marcus slowly opened for her. The sex especially I felt was just really emotional and tugged at me.

The ending of the book centers the couple and gives family depth and closure that I appreciated. I feel so invested in this series now 😆 I definitely want to read Rhoda’s story.

Content warnings: These should be taken as a minimum of what to expect. It’s very possible I have missed some.

Emily Goodnight, a curiously smart bluestocking who’s as blind as a bat without her blasted spectacles is raising the art of meddling to new heights. Marcus Roberts, The Earl of Blakely, London's most unattainable bachelor, finds Miss Goodnight's schemes nearly as intriguing as the curves hidden beneath her frumpy gowns. If you want a book that will make you smile & laugh all the way through then you’ll love this wonderful light hearted romp. The characters are very well drawn, the story flows extremely well, it’s enthralling & very very enjoyable. Emily is a bluestocking who can’t keep her mouth closed & some of her questions will have you laughing out loud. Marcus is a bit of a tortured ostrich, he definitely likes to keep his head hidden from learning unpalatable truths, together they are delightful & made for each other. I can’t wait for the next in this engrossing series. This book is the third in the series & yes it could be read by itself but when an author is as talented as this I’d read the whole series & I have & all three books are brilliant
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Outstanding book, one of the BEST heroines! I’d give this one a 5++

Meeting the Earl of Blakely in previous books, I was drawn to him immediately and couldn’t wait to get his story. But WOW, the true star of this book is the bespectacled bluestocking, Miss Goodnight! The building attraction and romantic dance between Emily and Marcus is one you don’t want to pass up. I laughed so hard, and cried as well, as this strong, intelligent, and much overlooked wallflower meets, manages and melts this arrogant and unattainable rake’s world. A wonderful read full of ups and downs, that I just couldn’t get enough of. Miss Goodnight is definitely one of my favorite heroines; she’s unlike any other!

Emily Goodnight is one of my all time favorite historical romance characters! OMG, love so much about this book! And the chemistry, wow. Love that this story is different than so many I read. And so pleasantly surprised that Miss Anders has somehow managed to make Book 3 just as engaging as Book 1 and 2 of this series! Looking forward to Book 4.

DNF @ 55%.

Dull.

Silly.

Uninteresting main characters.

Romance and chemistry is unconvincing.
(Mostly just lust.)

Formulaic.

Cringey.

On- page sex with other woman.
(Directly after meeting and dancing with the heroine.)

Annoying heroine.
(Is too insecure in many ways… acts without common sense too often etc.)

Unlikable hero.
(Too arrogant and shallow etc.)

Plot is both OTT and underwhelming.

I wish I could give this book 10 stars as it so deserves it. Hell’s Belle by Annabelle Anders is the 3rd book in the Devilish Debutantes series. This historical romance is what dreams are made of and with just the right amount of steamy in it without over doing it. I found this story to be very original. I can so relate to the main character, Emily Goodnight, and that has never happened to me before in a book. Annabelle Anders has a true and natural talent for writing with such a great sense of humor, I could not put this book down it was cracking me up. Her descriptions are so vivid that it makes it very easy to read and understand what is going on at the moment. This story has schemes, plans, scandal, friendships, misunderstandings, elopement, scandal, evil, kidnapping, attempted murder, invasion of privacy, entrapment, kindness, caring, but does it have love? You will just have to read this amazing story to find out and I highly recommend you do!!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Actually this book won't be out until September 2018 but I thought this spicy little book needed an early review. I Received an advanced copy for an honest review.
Annabelle Anders is amazing to come up with these great plots. This story is about Emily Goodnight, the bluestocking with spectacles, and Marcus Blakely, heir to a dukedom and a rake. It starts out a little spicy and ends a little spicy and some in between but the story seems to call for it and it doesn't seem out of place. The author has developed her characters so you feel like they are family. I Love that about a book that I am reading. I can even see little Emily's face with her big brown eyes, her spectacles and her sprinkling of freckles. Marcus is intrigued but never feels he will ever fall in love. This is a story about that journey. Order your copy and take that journey with them. You will not be disappointed. Happy Reading! ReadingGenie

This book has it all! And what an enthralling ride it is!!! Romance, sexuality invoked by chemistry, adventure plagued by manipulation and even a bit of mystery.

Ms. Anders has completely and utterly out done herself with this, her newest Regency historical novel. Emily Goodnight, on the surface, appears pretty much like a nerdy plain Jane. She tends to hide behind her friends and her spectacles. Although, quite intelligent and opinionated, she is ultimately shy and fears that she will end up a spinster. A situation that will land her only to serve a grumpy, old aunt. But wait.... Along comes the handsome Marcus Roberts, Earl of Blakely to the rescue. Or does he?

Emily and her good friend Rhoda are attending a Ball in London, when the Earl approaches Emily for a dance, while Rhoda has somewhat developed a risque reputation. She has the beauty and the interested gentlemen. After dancing a set with the Earl, Emily leaves the ballroom dance floor to investigate the library of the Crabtree mansion. She doesn't expect what happens next. A sexual encounter between the Earl and the widowed Cromwell. Needless to say, she gets quite the education on sexuality.

Following the ball, Emily and Rhoda end up accompanying their good friend, Sophia and her husband, the Duke of Prescott, along with the Earl of Blakely, to the Prescott country home. Sophia has a plan to help her friends with their respective situations. In lies the development of a very manipulative scheme between Emily and Rhoda to get each other married. Meanwhile, Sophia and their other friend Cecily have no idea of the scheme. While Rhoda desperately needs the protection of a husband, Emily desires a husband, a home of her own and a family. She doesn't want to live out her days in Wales as a servant to her aunt. Will the two maidens succeed in their scheme? Or will they fall flat on their faces?

As Emily becomes acquainted with the Earl and learns of his past, and the riff between him and his father, the Duke of Waters, she begins to suspect foul play. She takes her suspicions to the Duke of Prescott. At this point, the weaving of manipulation and an investigation begins. Not to mention, the chemistry that develops between the two unsuspecting couples ensue. But wait, a plot to murder someone close to them is discovered.... Who is it? And why?

Once again Ms. Anders has weaved a dynamic story-line, while keeping her readers entertained and on the edge of their seat. I highly recommend this book. I can hardly wait to read the next installment in the series. I voluntarily leave this review in exchange for an advanced reader copy of the book.

Another great read by Annabelle Anders!

Lady Emily Goodnight is a bluestocking who cannot see without her glasses, something I can definitely relate to. Marcus, the Earl of Blakely, is a known rake who has shirked his familial duties because of his past. He also does not associate with his parents and sister because of this. Emily has crushed on Marcus since she met him. Marcus finds Emily interesting and seeks her out to tease and well just look out for her.
Now that his father is shutting doors for him in London he goes to the country where Emily is also attending the same house party. A plot is devised for Marcus to marry and basically tick off his father for interfering in his past life. But Emily feel that maybe Marcus doesn’t know the whole truth.
After multiple issues with her glasses and different twists in the story of course they find they are friends and also share a steamy passion for each other.
Once again I was drawn to these characters emotionally. They made my heart ache when I knew they were falling in love. And my heart break when they were not getting along. I also found myself laughing at their teasing ways.
This is the 3rd book that I’ve read this week by Annabelle Anders. I am so glad I found her, really enjoying her books!

A really nice story. Both the H and h had some insecurities that had to be dealt with. Emily is a brainy girl, very dependent on her spectacles, and not sure she is good enough. Marcus is the son of a duke, estranged from his family over an incident when he was young. They both are embroiled in complicated marriage situations before they end up eloping to Greta Green.

Things I liked about the book: engaging characters, gradual "enlightenment" about each other, chapter titles (why does nobody do this any more?), lovely little clever moments, a yummy ending. Things I liked less: it was a little long, the characters did quite a bit of ruminating. Overall, it was a nice story that gave me lots of warm feelings.

Miss Emily Goodnight is my heroine, I love this woman , if you could marry a book character I’d be tempted to change sexes for her.
I love her outspokenness, her hidden strength and feistiness, I love she reminds me so much of myself in some ways ,always putting her foot in it basically, I love that she is also so vulnerable and doesn’t realise her strengths and what others see in her .
Also I love that she just want to help Marcus even if it means the possibility of loosing him in the process, as long as her friends are no longer struggling she would sacrifice her own happiness.
Marcus’s reminds me of your typical boy growing up in the shadow of a great man . Not realising he’s actually just like his dad .
He’s determined and stubborn to a fault,Especially where the Duke is concerned .
As always when I read Annabelle’s work I loose myself in her stories, her imagination it seems knows no bounds and the results are stunning, she’s become one of my favourite writers.
When I see her name on the cover Im confident I’ll adore the book .
Her characters and setting are amusing and enjoyable her plots and storylines are without doubt some of the best I’ve read , and I can so easily loose myself in her stories.
Hells Belle is one of those brilliant stories, and evokes many emotions and feelings ,it’s
Amusing
Powerful
Emotional
I could keep them coming , but instead I’ll just tell you to read it yourself, I can say with confidence the only emotion you won’t be feeling is disappointment .
Highly Recommended!

I can honestly say I've consumed everything this author has written and must warn you ahead of time to have a fan ready. This novel is steamier than her others!!

My favorite line in the book:
Gossip could be deadly, and the meatier the morsel, the longer the ton would chew on it.

Meet Lord Blakley, confirmed bachelor and dubbed a rake. Refusing to marry the woman of his father's choice, he left London to achieve money of his own abroad. Ten years later his relationship is still strained with his father and his only goal is to tup woman of his choosing.....particularly widows. His intentions were to retain his freedom and never be shackled to a woman.

But Miss Emily entertains him with her knowledge and always speaking her mind. Most saw a mousy little wallflower behind her spectacles, but he saw beyond all that making sure he asked her to dance at each event she attended. Even though she was a bluestocking. Now Emily had always found him handsome and felt he was above her station but she needed to land a husband this season or end up her nasty aunt's companion in Wales, probably never to return to London.

I adored Emily. She reminded me of Tammy in those old films from the 70's where she very innocently spoke her mind without thinking. She was entertaining!!

I loved this book, although it was a bit more steamier than I prefer....the storyline kept me captivated. The last 10% of the book was my favorite part.

I was gifted with an ARC and have offered a review of my own free will.

Hell’s Belle by Annabelle Anders is the 3rd book in the Devilish Debutantes series and I have to tell you all that this historical romance series just keeps getting better and better!

Emily Goodnight, good gracious what a mess she has found herself in. Emily is smart, a lowly wallflower, consider being a bluestocking by society and can’t see two feet in front her without her spectacles (which I can totally relate too!) Her mother has declared her to marry this season or she will be sent packing to Wales to become her aunts’ companion. How can she foil her mother’s plans?

Marcus Roberts, the Earl of Blakely (Lord Blakely) is very handsome, rich and a rouge who is bound and determined to make it on his and refuses to do his father bidding of marrying Lady Lila by the end of the season. How can he foil his father’s plans?

Let the planning and scheming begin. With the help of her friends Cecily, Sophia and Rhoda, Emily has come up with a plan to have her married by the end of the season. However, along the way, certain obstacles must be dealt with, including Lord Blakely. Sometimes the best laid plans are not the best to follow.

Join this group of lively friends (and spouses), as they will entertain you with a scandal or two, a handful of quarrels, a kidnapping, an attempted murder, and a carriage ride that changes everything!

I highly recommend this series!

This is the 4th book in this series and I have loved them all. But The heroine, Emily Goodnight, struck a chord with me from the beginning. She is smart, socially awkward, and deemed plain and a bluestocking by society. It doesn’t help her that her family rides on the edge of society as well. She has to marry this season or her mother will send her to her horrible aunt in Wales to become a companion.Lord Blakey is a rogue who enjoys his freedom vowing to never marry, especially the woman his father wants him to wed. He will do anything to destroy his fathers plans. Including marrying some one totally unacceptable. Miss Goodnight is perfect to foil his fathers plans and for him to maintain his freedom and she is desperate. I loved this story the best. I loved Emily’s road to HEA. I highly recommend this book and this series if you love to be entertained .

Anders has outdone herself with Hell’s Belle from cover photo to her last words: The End.

I especially identified with the bespectacled ‘bluestocking’ heroine with an insatiable thirst for knowledge that ranged from salacious to toxicology.

Miss Goodnight had as much trouble keeping her glass in her spectacles as she did keeping her nose and good intentions out of other’s affairs.

Her foray into Mentula playing and swiving with Marcus made for a lively story and slightly more romantically erotic read.

Well done, Annabelle Anders and thank you so much for the arc.

I am a sucker for a good historical read! I loved so much about this book. The chemistry between these two was of the charts. I was pulling for Emily and Marcus from the very beginning. This was my first book from this author and I cannot wait to read more. I felt like these characters could have easily been part of my family or great friend. I love reading book like that. I was a drawn in right away and was still inside the story after reading the last page. This was an amazing story, I cannot stress how much of a must read this book is. I loved this book! Truly thought the characters were believable. Fun read!

Emily, a bookish young woman, nay a bluestocking, may be smart, but she cannot see how her manipulations shall cause chaos within her circle. She also cannot see without her spectacles, causing it's own measure of chaos. She knew she would never marry, but falls for Marcus, a man who declares he will never marry. Between bad luck and fate their paths cross continually. Will a happily ever after ensue?

Seriously, Oh my gosh! As I turned the pages, I really wanted to send a message to the author and tell her how much I was loving this story! I bookmarked so many passages on my kindle that it was several pages when I got through. As I have read each book in this series, there did not seem a way they could get any better, but they do and this is one of my favorites (ok they are all my favorites but what can I say?)
Emily Goodnight is a true bluestocking spinster and is blind without her glasses. Those glasses play a tantalizing role in this story. She is outspoken and yes, she gets right in the middle of things but underneath she is vulnerable and feels herself not really good enough for society.
Marcus, Earl of Blakely, enjoyed himself with the ladies and often would seek Miss Goodnight out at entertainments just to have a lively conversation. He was not looking to marry and had a few secrets that would eventually come out.
But as the two are together at a house party, Miss Goodnight schemes to make all things right and the two end up together. How you say? Emily was the most surprising woman he had ever known and underneath that frumpy exterior she was blessed with an amazing imagination!
Annabelle Anders has done it again with a story full of powerful emotions with the perfect blend of humor. This is one of the best books I have read this year and I cannot wait for more.
I will leave you with this line that I loved!

This book had a lot of potential, but that's where it ended — potential.

I liked the trope of a shy girl with a rake. I liked that they knew of each other due to their mutual married friends and he seemed to find her blunt honesty charming. I liked that she was a bit of an outcast and a wallflower who was interested in sex and bought books (worth one month of pin money) on just that topic. I even liked that she was caught in a mortifying situation of accidentally hiding in the library, where he walked in to have a tryst.

There was, again, so much potential. Her "experimentations" and scientific nature reminded me of Pippa from the far superior One Good Earl Deserves a Lover by Sarah MacLean.

Unfortunately, a lot of things didn't add up for me. The writing, the pacing, the dialogue — these are three things that count heavily to me, maybe more than character or plot development, because those three things will alter how much I enjoy the reading experience.

There were so many random bits thrown in that you thought may be important later but never came up again. Emily's bookish father or her flighty mother, who Marcus says is basically a harlot and who tried to come onto him. His whole "mystery" past with a woman who claimed to have been pregnant with his child. His relationship with his family — and his family's relationship with Emily, who they immediately looked down on.

Emily is supposedly a “bluestocking” but has very little common sense. Marcus has made a lot of money despite not having the support of his father, a Duke; he is bored with his life, arrogant and shallow. This is suppose to be a lighthearted romance but comes across as vulgar (and I’m no prude), boring and silly. The parlor games were especially embarrassing.
