A lovely book of recipes that make the Doocy family & friends feel all happy inside, and the stories/memories that surround these homemade delights. Yes, they are not the healthiest foods: Greg Gutfeld will not be able to eat most of them, they are NOT Adkins' approved! Who am I to judge? My sons' happy foods are "Kelly's Killer Brownies" and my "Sticky Tower of Sweetness," which uses 4 sticks of butter, so I'll cut the Steve & Mary Doocy some slack. They are in the dessert phase of their relationship, after all!
A most enjoyable "read" for a cookbook. A great style: first the prologue to the recipe and then the recipe...loved it and makes it most enjoyable to read through in a short amount of time. Adds "spice" to the recipes they share. The recipes are some of the great old "comfort foods" of my past and Steve's writings are funny, truthful, transparent and hit home a lot! Definitely suggest you own this cookbook!
I don't often buy cookbooks, but saw this on Fox & Friends, and wanted to make several things they showed. It's been Worth it. A great cookbook, cheerily written and beautifully illustrated. Thanksgiving was a hit! Well done, Doocys!
Love the stories behind the recipes. They are priceless! As they are a bit of family history for all of us to read. I will say just like the book mentions, what would my family remember about me with food?
page turner for sure! and the recipes look delicious. there are many that I will try. i like the fact that many of the 'fried' recipes are actually baked. Great short stories with the recipes. I read the entire book before I tried a recipe - it was very interesting. Thanks for putting this book together.
So many fabulous recipes all in one place, my favorite is Betty's Bourbon Pumpkin Cheesecake. We brought for our potluck Thanksgiving dinner and it was requested again for our Christmas dinner. It's a crowd pleaser and I am so lucky my husband is such a fabulous baker. Thanks Pearl.
Recipes sound good and usually have ingredients that one has in his kitchen. Even though it was written by Fox associates, and the recipes came from their acquaintances , I overlooked that for some new recipes to try.
I have never read a cookbook from cover to cover but this book is delicious. I devoured it. The Doocys’ family stories are wonderfully fun reading. This is a cookbook that fills your heart.
A little too cheery for me, especially with the name dropping of celebrety conservative media personalities, but hey I'm west coast. A good collection of fairly tried and true Americana recipes.
