Part of my psychology reading - this was as dull as dishwater: was a massive effort to make it to the end. I didn't realise it was just going to be a load of research - doesn't make for exciting reading.
To a certain point, it delivered in that there was a brief explanation of how the body responds to tapping, and why the treatment is effective.
There were also tips on why it might not be effective, and this tipped me off that the emotional component is key. If you don't have an emotion to tap into (pardon the pun), then it doesn't seem like it will work. So, this can at least allow me to target specific things to try this on...but also seems to undermine the idea that tapping can help with everything under the sun (she does not say this - unless I've already forgotten something in the intro/first chapters - but it's the mythology that's being spread about tapping).
There was a big meaty chunk in the middle of all the studies and outcomes on tapping (so you can look at where there are actually effective results).
I feel that, for laymen, a few chapters will give you the info you need. If you're curious about the topic, it's certainly worth taking a look.
Nitpick: She says Australia is the country with the number 1 obesity epidemic. No, it's not. Where did that even come from? People in the U.S. would say the same thing about the U.S. (also not true) ... But it seems like nonsense every developed country (not the author, per se) feeds its citizens to blame the individual for pervasive systemic issues. Yeah, there's personal responsibility and psychological causes to overeating and weight problems, certainly, but the overall nutrition environments we're living in do not help the problem (food deserts, high calorie foods = cheap, lack of nutrition education, huge portions, big chunks of the grocery store dedicated to junk food, etc.). I wanted to read more about Tapping but this book just goes on and on. It gives you the history and other proven facts which is good to know but it just gives too much and some how repeats what it said a few pages before. If you want the meat and potatoes of how to do it and get results you need to go to Nick Ortner. He shows how to do it for just about everything...how to quiet a racing mind, turn your day around and create a great day, etc.
Every now and then I'll throw a non-fiction into the mix. This was a fascinating read, and I took away a lot of new knowledge. I sure hope if it's really an effective tool in healing anxiety, fear and other psychological/mental issues - schools will adopt it into their programs. I'd certainly rather see young people HEALING, rather than numbing with medications.
This is the best book for understanding the science of EFT/tapping. It also gives some instructions for how to use the technique. If you are in doubt about EFT and tapping, this book will likely change your mind. Great intro to the subject!
I'm only giving this a 5 star because it's really good if you enjoy reading loads of science. Hence the name. Once I started reading I realized it was too much science for my preference as I'm already experienced with EFT. Definitely good for an intro to EFT.
