What happens when everyone around you dies? What do you do first? When the world died in a manufactured pandemic that left only one survivor out of thousands, time is very important and every day matters to some of the littlest survivors. If you live in the middle of a metro area like Los Angeles, there are lots of things that need to be done first and fast. One frightened, shy teacher pulls himself together to start things going to survive and maybe even begin again.
I really enjoyed the authors point of view in his novel. Good fleshed out characters. Read this novel in two sittings because it was interesting and plausible it could really happen. Loved the animals and the characters interactions. I think this would make a good TV series by the way. Looking forward to this authors next book.
This is a great book. Finally, an "end of the world as we know it" novel without zombies or endless firearms details or extreme violence. A great balance and well told.
There are a few proofreading/editing issues but nothing so egregious as the derail the flow and development of the story. Frankly, I was hoping to find more from this author. Alas, not even a website.
I have lately been frustrated by so many series releases. Far too many writers have taken to breaking up what should rightfully be a single book. In this case, there was a solid and complete novel . . . I would be thrilled to see a sequel, Mr. Krause (if you're reading this . . . Please).
The writing is a little rough, but this book is the most thoughtful and positive teotwawki I've ever read. Planning, working together, and figuring out how to keep society's advances without going back to living like the 1800's. I enjoyed the forward looking ideas and optimism. Hope this type of character is around if the worst ever happens.
Ordinary people live up to the expectations of other survivors to become leaders
I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who fears for the future. When disaster strikes, those who work together for the good of the community become spokespeople for the nation.
Let's not beat about the bush here. This is a long read and can be quite boring at times. It's also a book I'll never put on my "read again list" But. Yes But. It's a great story and I did enjoy it and it didn't put me off buying the next book in the series. Some surprises at the end of it that you may or may not have expected and all in all well worth the 4 stars I've given it.
