Could you survive in the few remaining cities surrounded by a post-apocalyptic wasteland if cunning and wit were your only resources?

When an executive needs to be assassinated, new intel pilfered, a judge’s wife knifed, or a person kidnapped they call Desmond. He takes preventative measures to ensure he's not tied to the devastation he unleashes upon the world. He is a String. Shadows and discretion are his currencies. Things were going well for Desmond until someone at the top decided he was no longer needed.

Can Desmond survive this world while maintaining some shred of his humanity?

There are many Strings like him, but he is the best. Strings do the dark work that greases the wheels of the corporate machine. He hires Mercs to get their hands dirty and execute perilous jobs. He is the mark on the other side of the glass that can’t be cleaned.

His nanobytes, robots that live alongside in his blood, alter his DNA where he's slept. He makes deals and slices with his words. His crimes leave only echoes in their wake.

It's not a question of if Desmond can survive, but how? And what cost?

Everet Martins writes stories of the fantastic. His first foray into the published realm is Stormcaller. It has the type of visceral action and fun he had always dreamed fantasy could be.

Living in New Hampshire, Everet finds inspiration for his books within his exciting life. He has always loved getting lost in role-playing games and novels. In his youth, he was notorious for being found with his face lost behind the cover of a book. Fascinated by the written word and always wanting to try putting pen to page, he started writing short stories, and eventually a novel.

As a young boy he was exposed to the rigors of martial arts and continued to practice them throughout his adult life, dabbling in various styles. The love for physical fitness morphed into other bodily challenges such as strength training and long distance running.

I did not expect to see a secondary fantasy character from The Age of Dawn namely Prodal in this as Sci-Fi Book. I liked that the setting was mainly set in Chicago, which is rare for majority of Sci-Fi or Urban Fantasy Books to be set at.
The Sci-Fi elements and the Virtual Reality stuff are interesting.
I’m mixed on my feelings on Desmond; he’s a cynical, horny, anti-hero character and I like that he’s openly bisexual.
Paragon, Saber, Talos and Nightshade are basically assassins or known as in this universe, Mercs.
I wonder if they’ll be our main antagonists for the next book or the company they are working for.
