Every sinner has a future and every saint has a past, but it is impossible to fully receive God’s grace if you struggle to forgive yourself for the things you cannot change. The past is the enemy’s playground, full of decisions, mistakes, and sin we cannot do anything about. This often leaves us immobilized with feelings of shame, regret, and unworthiness. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Open With Your Broken walks readers through a journey of transparency like never before! Unveiling the schemes of the enemy, while explaining how shame and guilt can keep you from fully achieving God’s purpose in your life, Dana Goodrum teaches readers awareness and effective strategies for victorious living.
By displaying the transforming power of His grace in our own lives, we remove bondage from our past and fuel our unique God-given purpose. This transparency is critical to the Kingdom now more than ever, as we face a pivotal faith crisis on two first, in the sleeping body of Christ—believers, the church, who are no longer fully committed to their walk or truly aware of the spiritual war raging around them; and secondly, in a generation of young people who are actively choosing to not pursue faith. Start this powerful journey to address the dual faith crisis, battle the enemy’s strongholds, wake the sleeping body of Christ, and expand His glorious Kingdom.
Such a powerful read and needed read for Christians. Through the tools and applications of this book all believers will be more effective in expanding God's amazing kingdom. Not only is Open with Your Broken an edge of your seat book, it is also so incredibly purposeful. Everyone has dealt with shame and guilt, it really derails believers and those who want a loving God. Dana shares the most private details of her life to help others realize that God wants us, in all our brokenness! I highly recommend reading this life changing book!
This is a must read for anyone who is struggling with their walk with Christ( or wants more with their walk) to the person who feels alone and ready to throw in the towel. The raw honesty is inspiring to examine oneself and their own journey in life. Highly recommend!!
LOVE LOVE LOVED this book. Would gladly give it 7 or 8 stars out of 5 due its simple but profound message. My favorite quote in the book was in Chapter 2 "The Church is a hospital for the broken, a fellowship of sinners all celebrating their need and thankfulness for the same Cross.". The timing of this book coming into my life had to be God orchestrated. First of all, this topic is one God has been teaching me over the past several years that we are not meant to do life alone and its when we realize that and share our struggles with each other, we realize that others have the same struggles we do and we can learn from and encourage one another. In fact, it was this lesson that has resulted in 3 close Christian sister friendships. Each of us got to talking how we wanted to have a genuine friendship where we could be real and vulnerable. Far too often we feel like we have to go to church looking all put together. When really that should be the one place we can bring our broken for healing. This book is so on the mark.
Now fast forward to this book arriving in my hands and I feel like I am walking through fire fighting for my marriage and my emotional well being and this powerful book reminds me that I need to be open with my broken so I can be a light to a dark and broken world. God is so good.
I love how the author starts with her story, then gets into the meat of how we can use our broken as a testimony, to show the authenticity of our faith. The world doesn't need a sermon but it does need Jesus who can redeem the broken and give us a purpose. Then at the end of the book, she closes with more of her broken journey and how God has been faithful. This approach was very impactful. And in essence this is what the book is asking us to do. As we share our stories with others, they can see Jesus through us, then they will listen to what we have to say and we can show them how Jesus has redeemed us and transformed us. Wow!
Highly recommend this book. And while it is a short read, don't miss the message. In fact, I would recommend reading a chapter a day and letting it truly marinate into your heart. Don't read it just to read it, but let God use this message in this book to change your life and your approach. I'm sure He will do amazing things.
