Ahab Greenbaum is an autodidactic heart surgeon whose alma mater is the Chicago public library. He is a super fan of one Cicero Frank a down at the heels R 'n B singer. One night Ahab convinces his wife to attend a Cicero Frank show at a local watering hole. Cicero Frank has the big one on stage and falls down dead. He is revived by Ahab and while recovering is interviewed by a Japanese film crew who interviews him for a documentary on obscure music legends. This causes a sensation in the land of the rising sun and Cicero Frank finds himself riding the wave of newfound fame and fortune. Ahab flies to Tokyo to see his hero perform and after a riotous night decides he misses his wife so much he races back to Chicago only to find her in bed with a demon from his past. Ahab cashes in the marriage, buys a mother home and moves out to the Mojave where he is crucified by a religious cult. Frank meets a lovely woman named Aiko and after a rollercoaster ride with his Tokyo music career finds himself the star of an action film. This all gets taken away from him of course and he ends up back in Chicago where his path crosses once again with Ahab, who as one might guess has gone through some changes. One man is on a phoenix-like journey back to the top, the other is an Icarus type who gets a little too close to the heat. Hilarity and horror ensues.
