The book includes the author's novels Cynics and Clean-shaven man. First published abroad in Berlin publishing house Petropolis (Cynics - in 1928, The clean-shaven man - in 1930), his novels were deemed anti-social by Soviet officials. For many years, his name is disappeared from Russian literary history. Russians were only able to read the novel The Cynics in 1988, The clean-shaven man, was first published in Russian in 1991. In 1991 a film was made based on the novel Cynics. Today, no one doubts that the creative heritage of Mariengof ranks along with Platonov, Pilnyak and Zamyatin, - as classics of the XX century.
