In need of a creative outlet, I began writing novels after my second child was born. A voracious reader of romance books and a constant dreamer of romantic plots, I was encouraged to put my ideas to paper. I soon found out I loved it...all of it!

I am a member of the Romance Writers of America and of the Georgia Romance Writers.

In addition to writing historical romance novels, I also build large HO model trains, love to do huge cross-stitching pieces, relax by boating, and decorate everything I can during the Christmas season.

Besides romance I am a heavy science fiction reader and try to read at least two books a month—one science fiction and the other romance even when I am writing. I guess I just secretly desire to live in another place in time!

Lady Millie Aldon made a pact with her two best friends never to marry, to instead seek fun and adventure and only allowing one clause to break the pact when they were teenagers. Years have passed and now that the Daring Three, as they are nicknamed, are out among society they seem to stick to their pact. But when one of Millie's best friends older brother finally returns back home to London, Millie finds her heart in trouble. Charles, the Marquess of Chaselton, has returned home to continue his work to find out the truth about his fathers death but one look at the young, adventurous girl from his childhood, his protective and passionate instincts kick in. However, Charles feels his undercover work is too dangerous and does not want to put Millie at risk but as Millie has loves to people watch, she quickly cues in to Charles' spy history and sets about to help him, even if it means putting her own life in danger. With encouragement from friends and family alike to find their happiness together, will Charles and Millie be able to overcome the roadblocks of a deepening mystery and some stubborn jealously?

This was my first Michele Sinclair novel and I will admit I was drawn in by the gorgeous cover! But what kept me reading was the storytelling. It was fun, exciting, romantic and a pleasure to read. I love storylines that feature close bonds between friends and we get to see alot of that within A Woman Made for Pleasure. Millie's two friends are wonderful supporting characters, as was the mother in charge of all three. I admired Millie's free spirit attitude but how she stood by those who needed her the most. Watching the jealously flair between Millie and Charles adds a nice dose of humor but what I really enjoyed about this romance was the falling in love process. It happened at a pace I liked and I really appreciated that the 'I love yous' were not at the very end of the story, after the dramatics. The mystery aspect was nice, but I feel like it was a bit of an add on at the end. I would recommend this story for fans of stubborn yet loyal heroines who falls hard for a childhood friend--a childhood friend that knows her for who she truly is inside and accepts all her adventurousness and loves her madly for it surrounded by wonderful friends and family mixed with some intrigue and a steamy dose of heat. I look forward to the next two books in this series! 4 stars

Review posted at Demon Lover's Books & More

Right off the bat I didn't care for the heroine. In her quest for adventures, she came off bossy and pushy. But at the same time, she was 12 years old, so I tried to give her some leeway. She pushed them into a no-marriage pact. None of them would ever get married. But they each had one escape clause. Millie required a man who would allow her to climb trees, ride astride, hunt, and have adventures. Her friend Aimee's escape was her brother's friend Reece. Janelle must have a man who prized debate, adventure and discussing philosophy. I felt Millie bullied them into the pact.

When next we see her as an adult, I still had a hard time with her. She was still pushing her friends around, and still on the hunt for her next grand adventure.Until I realized how fiercely loyal she was, how much she loved her friends, and how much they loved her. We weren't just told that, but we were shown through their actions and their points of view. Aimee and Janelle enjoyed her adventures as much as she did, though they sometimes needed an extra "push" from Millie. I found I actually kind of liked Millie.

Charles is Aimee's brother, and Marquess of Chaselton (his friends call him Chase). He is also who was constantly rescuing little Mildred Alder from her "adventures." And while he may have teased her mercilessly, he's always sort of admired her.

He's spent the past few years abroad as part of a spy ring, helping both on the front lines, and behind the scenes. He is back in London as part of a ruse. He is chaperoning/escorting his sister and her friends, but he is also searching for the man who killed his father.

There is a bit of a "National Treasure" type mystery there, and it's okay. I found it to conveniently pop in and out of the plot as needed, but I liked it nonetheless. I hope in the next book, that it's continued; I'd like to see some bad guys get their due.

I liked the romance, and I liked the side characters a lot. I really want to see Reece and Aimee get together, and I'm curious if the bad guy is truly gone. He may not be. I didn't see him as the villain of the piece at all, but it worked. There was something about his character I didn't like, but it would spoil the mystery if I put it.

***Thank you to Kensington's Zebra Historicals for the ARC

Millie Aldon and her two BFF's Aimee and Jennelle ,have a pact: They're neverevereverevereverever going to marry. Unless "the perfect man" proposes.

For Millie, the perfect man would let her ride (a horse) astride, climb trees, and spelunk, and most of all, he wouldn't be stuffy and boring, like Aimee's annoying and patronizing big brother Charlie.

FF eight years.

Chase (Charlie) has been off fighting the wars and hunting for traitors, when he gets missives that persuade him to go home. First missive is from his mum (who is just a BIT too canny to be your usual society matron—guessing there's a story there but I haven't read it—yet), summoning him home to escort his sister and her two BFFs in their first season. Second is info that his da, who died a while ago, might've been murdered.

He arrives home to find that the cute wee hellion who was a royal pain in his arse way back when has… well, she's…

Chase, being male, suffers from a circulation problem—let's just say the most important part of him isn't getting any (go ahead and take that both ways).

Doesn't help that Millie's smart enough to see the things he's trying to hide—and to observe more about the people around them than is safe for either of them.

AND

Seems Chase's da, possibly foreseeing his own demise, gave each of the Three (BFF's) a sweet little gift, that, alas, contains a secret code that is guaranteed to drive the bad guys nuts. Millie insists on wearing hers—and not in an inconspicuous way…

Nice spy/mystery/adventure component and the chemistry between the couple works reasonably well, even tho it's kinda predictable. Four stars.

Sometimes when I cook despite following my exact recipe from before it comes out tasting not as good. This book had everything I loved, a smart heroine, a passionate hero, and plenty of substance but somehow failed in becoming a 5 starer. There were a few irratating factors about the book such as the marriage misunderstanding between Mellie and Charles but that is not the reason I detracted a star from this book. It just didn't move me for some reason. Anyways still an enjoyable read but not worth the same price as a Kleypas or Hoyt book.

P.S. someone compared this book to twilight and I almost choked on my laughter. It was nothing like the twilight especially because Mellie was an intelligent resourceful heroine who took charge and was not awkward unlike Bella.

This was disappointing. The writing wasn’t what I liked; long and draggy sentences.

I felt the interaction between Chase & Millie was not enough. Everything else had more focus than the actual romance that was supposed to be blossoming between them. By everything else, I meant the conversations amongst the 3 friends and Chase’s spy thing—which I didn’t care about it.

It was boring. The book is boring. I started to give up hope at chapter 10 and decided to skim till the epilogue.

Author should have put in more screen time for Chase and Millie to appear instead of allowing other things to take over the romance—which was non existent. The chemistry was questionable, because they were always arguing. I didn’t particularly like Chase or Millie either.

One thing I was confused about was the various names our hero had: Charlie, Charles, Chase. Took me a while to figure out which was which. Would have preferred if author stuck with one.

I won’t be reading book 2 of this series but might try other series’ books.

Michele Sinclair’s newest series moves away from the highlands of Scotland down to the ballrooms and intrigues of London. The first book of the series, A Woman Made for Pleasure, introduces us to three willful young women who make a childhood pact never to marry, yet in their innocence none of them realize what they really agree to is only marring for love.

The instigator of the pact, Lady Millie Aldon, hopes to live her life full of adventure. Making a reluctant debut in London, Mille is bored by the social whirl of balls, teas and other proper activities for an Earl’s daughter. She bristles at the niceties and has to keep her sharp tongue in check when speaking to the society ladies or the gentlemen who call upon her. Her favorite diversion is in the art of observation, making a study of the people she comes into contact with to find the secrets they are hiding from others. One subject of her scrutiny is her best friend’s elder brother the Marquess of Chaselton. His reappearance in society after a long absence is dubious enough, yet his actions while in town lead Mille to suspect that his motives are not as innocent as just an escort to three debutants.

Charles Wentworth indeed has ulterior motives for being back in London, but it’s nothing that he can share with his sister’s friend Millie. Chase is a master of espionage and has been tracking down a small group of peers who are looking to create a rebellion against the Crown. Using his chaperone duties as the perfect cover, Chase works to collect the clues necessary to identify a traitor in their midst and flush him out. His mission is a personal vendetta as the traitor may have been responsible for his father’s murder. With so much riding on his success, he is caught unprepared to fight against his attraction to Millie. He remembers her fondly as the young girl who was constantly into mischief, never thinking she would blossom into a beautiful young woman that would be his match in both intelligence and ability.

I greatly enjoyed the balance in this story between the mystery that Chase is trying to solve against the growing relationship between him and Millie. Being close to her challenges his resolve to stay detached from his emotions while in pursuit, but he is not above using that connection with her to further his mission. He sees Millie’s skill at reading people and at times seeks her council. He also fights to keep her removed from the dangers a life with him could expose her to. Millie’s own feelings for Chase develop out of her childhood memories of how he always seemed to come to her aid. He was that solid strength she knew she could rely on when her own misadventures led her down the wrong path. As an adult, she uses that same bond to trust in him and allow Chase see the real Millie; a woman with her own inner strength, loyalty and love for those closest to her. The sexual tension that creeps into their verbal sparring matches kept me reading to see when that powder keg of emotion would explode. I loved how strongly Chase comes to feel for Millie, even if he cannot acknowledge the emotion in himself. I felt for Millie as she struggled against her own feelings and her loyalties to the pact she had made with her friends.

My biggest criticism about the book is not about the story itself, but more how Ms. Sinclair chose to write her characters. She allows the reader to get into the thoughts of not only Millie and Chase, but her friends Aimee and Jennelle, their guardian Lady Chaselton, the villains of the book and others. The head-hopping from one person’s point of view could switch from one paragraph to the next with only a quick identification of who we were now following. I did appreciate the outside viewpoints on Millie and Chase, as it gave us a better sense of how they presented themselves to others. However, the back and forth and switching around would pull me out of the story until I got my bearings upon who was thinking what. I wish that these quick changes in point of view could have been reserved for more logical breaks in the story rather than right in the middle of a scene.

My colleague Terree has long been a fan of Ms. Sinclair’s McTiernay series, but I’m very happy that I was given the chance to read and review her new Promises trilogy. With hints as to the next love match on the horizon, I am looking forward to the second book of this series and reading as the other two women find their own happiness.

A witty, adventurous tale! Actually rated 4.5. Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

Twelve-year-old Millie made a pact with her best friends, Aimee and Jenelle, that they would never wed, but they each had an exception to the pact. For Millie, who had no wish to wed ever, the exception was that she would only wed if she found a man who would allow her to hunt, ride astride, climb trees and explore caves. He must also never be dull, have an aversion to following rules and possess as much passion as she has for adventure. She was certain she would never find a man like this.

Millie, as well as her friend Jenelle, lost their mothers when they were quite young. So Aimee’s mother, Cecelia, has taken the girls under her wing, dubbing the three adventurous girls ‘the Daring Three’ and they call her Mother Wentworth. Like the threesome, Millie’s mother and Cecilia had been kindred spirits and always open to adventure, so she encourages this trait in the three girls. Every summer the two girls stay at the Wentworths with their friend Aimee. Now the girls are grown and attending their first Season, although they are getting a late start since they delayed it by two years.

Although he was ten years their senior, Charles Wentworth, a viscount and Aimee’s brother, was enlisted to watch out for the girls and keep them out of danger. Of the three, he found the spitfire Millie the most fascinating. Now, eight years later, he is the Marquess of Chaselton and known as Chase. Like his father, he and his best friend, Reece, hold key positions in the war department, thanks to his father’s best friend, Sir Edward, who is his mentor. During his time away from home, Chase has seen some tragic sights, so receiving letters from home has become a precious treat. He looks forward to his mother’s letters and the tales of the Daring Three which take him back to simpler times, instead of the harsh reality he has come to know. Eight years ago, his father died and left him one request – to find the traitor who was ruining the names of many good men. So he ended up in Spain, trying to do just that. Chase was determined to honor his father’s request, but so far the traitor has proved to be illusive. His recent letter from his mother begged him to come home to escort his sister and her friends for their first Season. Knowing it is his responsibility, he has decided to return to London. But he also has another reason for returning. In addition to his mother’s letter, Chase received a letter informing him that his father’s death had actually been murder.

Upon his return home, Chase comes upon Millie in the middle of the night and cannot believe this beautiful young woman is the little girl he had last seen eight years ago. He has to fight his attraction to her. As for Millie, she is shocked that the lanky lad ‘Charlie’ she had known is now a compelling, mysterious man with secrets and she is determined to find out what they are. Although they do their best to fight the attraction, one passionate kiss changes everything. Chase will not be happy until he possesses her and, as far as he is concerned, for Millie, that means marriage. But his clandestine activities would only put her in the middle of danger, especially with her adventurous nature, which compels her to spy so she can discover his secrets. Can he keep her safe while still completing his investigation, or will he lose the woman he has come to love?

A witty, adventure-packed tale, A WOMAN MADE FOR PLEASURE, the first novel in author Michele Sinclair’s PROMISES trilogy, is an exciting, passionate historical romance that will draw your attention from the very beginning. Chase and Millie were ideally suited. I loved that they grew up together and knew so much about each other, which was helpful in avoiding any misunderstandings between them since they knew each other so well. The secondary characters, Jenelle and Aimee, were delightful and I can’t wait to read their stories. Cecilia was also an excellent guiding hand for the three girls. This story is an absolute delight! Packed with hilarious escapades, danger, well-drawn characters, clever banter, suspense, mystery, romance and plenty of love, this story is an excellent start to a promising series. As I await the release of the next novel in this wonderful series, be sure to pick up your own copy of A WOMAN MADE IN PLEASURE. I highly recommend it!

A Woman Made for Pleasure is a very enjoyable historical romance with a touch of mystery.

The idea behind the Promises Trilogy is fascinating and fun. Three young girls, aka The Daring Three or Three for short, make a pact to never get married. Each are allowed an exception, and all three have listed some very extraordinary exceptions. Millie Aldon is the instigator of this promise. She has no desire to ever wed, but she wants to ensure that her best friends will be with her always. Millie is adventurous, contemptuous and put quite plainly…a handful.

Years later, she remains steadfast against marriage. The three ladies have put off their season long enough and are sent to London to find husbands. None of them have changed their minds, but they put on their best faces to appease their families.

It’s been eight long years since Chase Wentworth has been home. He is being called home to escort the Three into society. He will gladly return home to accompany his sister and her two friends at least that is what he wants everyone to believe. He is getting closer to the identity of a traitor to England and this is his opportunity to search closer to home.

What he doesn’t expect is his feelings for Millie. Her personality has always fascinated him, but now that she is a beautiful young woman and he can’t stop thinking about her. Trouble is she hasn’t changed much since he last seen her. She is still impetuous, adventurous and challenging, but she makes his blood boil with a mere smile. Now he has to guard his heart, protect Millie and find a killer.

These two were a joy to read and the supporting cast was just as much fun. The mystery was well executed and developed nicely. Even though I had an idea who the traitor was, I was guessing right up to the end. Well done, Ms. Sinclair. Millie kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what she was going to next and Chase’s hardheadedness did him no good, but it was exciting to watch Millie put him through the paces.

While I absolutely enjoyed this story, I’m unsure about the series. A Woman Made for Pleasure was actually titled Promises back in 2007 and placed first in the Historical Romance category for the PASIC 2007 Book of Your Heart contest. According to her website Promises was never published. It also appears the other two books of the trilogy have already been outlined. Ms. Sinclair has blurbs up for the other two books but no ETA’s. I doubt they will remain titled Consequences and Choices, but it sure would be nice to know when they will be published.

A Woman Made for Pleasure was a hit for me. I know I have mentioned my uneasiness about the other two, but only because I want them now. In my very selfish opinion, she has had plenty of time to have them ready for me to read *grins*. If you like saucy heroines and stubborn heroes, with a sweet romance, with some mystery thrown in, I think you will enjoy this novel. Once you have read them, you can join me in a campaign to get the other two released ASAP.

Michele Sinclair is a superbly talented author. She captured the heart of the regency era with this incredibly written novel! From start to finish, I was completely engrossed in Millie and Chase’s story, sometimes laughing out loud, other times wanting to strangle one of them. They were chiseled out perfectly and truly lent depth to the story line.

Millie is a wonderful character! I loved her attitude and her strength. She really knew what she wanted in life until she came face to face with Chase, the boy from her childhood. Trouble is, now Chase is a man, and the pact she made when was younger seems to be vying for the spot that her heart wants to put him in. She’s a woman, after all. She has needs and wants, and Chase could be the perfect fit for them. I absolutely loved the feeling I got as Millie’s emotions swept over me and became my own. I felt the struggle she was dealing with with fighting her attraction to honor her pact or give her heart away. It was a fun roller coaster ride!

Marquess of Chaselton,Charles “Chase” Wentworth has returned home to London where is bound and set on exposing the truth. Trust was betrayed and Chase is determined to announce the truth. But, he’s come face to face with Millie again after years away and wow! I loved his attitude and protectiveness towards her. She’s not the little girl remembers and the sparks go flying when he’s around her! I loved that. Chase is such a loving character when you get to know him. I really wanted to be Millie more than once! Chase soon learns that there is more to Millie than meets the eye and he’s not going to put her in danger, and despite the feelings in his heart, he’s got to protect her. I adored that in him. He was a strong man on the outside, but on the inside he had the heart of tenderness.

These two characters, as well as their friends and family, round out this story in a truly amazing way. A bit of suspense, scorching passion and incredibly drawn out plot line, this story left me breathless and wanting more. I am highly anxious to see more of the Daring Three in Aimee and Jennelle’s story. Thank you, Ms. Sinclair, for writing an absolutely breathtaking story! I am now a devoted fan for life!

This romance is so enjoyable it is so perfectly flawless, I enjoyed myself reading the whole entire book. The characters are both very well developed, the supporting characters are interesting and not a bit overbearing. The writing is absolutely flawless I could tell that the author is a very good writer, I googled her and it seems she has written a few books before. Will definitely look forward to her coming up work.

Our basic story line is of two childhood friends Millie an adventurous girl who is defiant in a childlike manner, which makes her so cute and lovable all through the book. Even as she is grown up she exhibits the need for adventure, and her reckless nature sometimes causes her problems. But no need to fear Chase is there. Ever since childhood Chase has been saving this annoying pesky girl and even now years later he saves her, from some problems of her doing. And best of all he saves her from her vow never to marry a man.

As Chase sees the new and grown up Millie after years of being away from home, he becomes attracted to her it is his Millie after all. And our Millie too is taken a back by how masculine, and domineering he is. Instant attraction. He is her rock to fall back onto. Instantly from their first meeting tensions between them rise. And the tension and sensuality between is described amazingly well. However, as any romance novel our characters must overcome obstacles to stay together. Chase is a spy and he comes back home with a secret and Millie is bent on finding out what that secret is. Our story follows adventure, intrigue, sensuality and undying love between two souls that have been denying their attraction for each other for too long.

Chase is the perfect alpha male he is jealous, possessive, protective, loving of Millie. He is always there for her I absolutely loved him and loved everything about him. Ladies you will not be disappointed. Millie was free spirited, adventurous, lovable and cute. I definitely highly recommend this book. Follow this amazing couple and watch as their love and lust for each other grows.

Top 5 worst romance novels that I've read, sorry.

It doesn't add up. One moment Millie is perceptive beyond description and in the next she uses no brain at all. She was/is a tomboy, but not a foolish one, yet to make plot twists happen, the author dumbs her down when convenient.

I don't for a second believe that she would have ignored her instincts in relation to Lord Marston. And when he pushes her buttons regarding Chase, she is immediately triggered into complete stupidity, yet when she banters with Chase, she thinks and talks 'like a man' (of the time), sharp and focussed, witty and going with the flow; creative in other words. Also, I doubt she would have ignored a sense of unease at being recognised whilst wearing a wig, mask, and an uncharacteristically bold dress (because the man himself thought he wouldn't have recognised her unless he'd have followed her from her home address).

So why make her an airhead, choose the easy (insulting) option, when Marston might as well have been beaten at his own game (likely) or at least provided a worthy opponent. I.can't.stand dumbing women down! (See, my first exclamation mark in a review.) It spoils the whole story. Because lo and behold, when it comes to Sir Edward, she is like the sharpest knife in the drawer. Come on...

The sex scenes are cringe-worthy and clichéd. Aroused also seems to be one of the author's favourite naughty words, blah. I don't want to write cringe of embarrassment and arousal in the same sentence :(

As for Millie's fear of being like everyone else, that point was driven home one time too many as well. In fact there were quite a few characteristics and concepts that were repeated over and over to make sure that even the stupidest of readers would get it.

The only truly redeeming qualities were Millie's friends and Chase's mother. The Russian madame was also quite a character. Unfortunately a lot of time was spent gazing into Millie's fine purple eyes or watching them burn of fury or other equally imbalanced emotions.

Oh dear, I won't read more by this author.

This had some good points and bad points, I’d say about 60-40. The good: starting with the girl crew of bffs- Millie, Aimee, and Jennelle. I loved the way they supported one another always, and had fun together. The way they navigated the balls and whatnot of their first season kind of reminded me of going out to clubs with my bff when I was younger. I liked the prologue with Millie and Charlie- totally charming. The love story between them as adults was sweet. Definitely felt some frustration with the multiple misunderstandings, but those were typical of romance novels. I loved the scenes with the modiste Madame Sasha, and all the descriptions of the fashion. I’m a sucker for lavish period fashion in HR. And Mother Wentworth was amazing. Kind of unrealistically cool for a regency mother, but whatever. On that note- the bad starts with the way the book seemed off as a historical. A little too modern in the language and mannerisms. Another thing: the spy/mystery plot just didn’t interest me much. I just felt no connection to the drama and I wasn’t invested in finding out what happened. I did kind of like the action-adventure movie “National Treasure” type ending though.
The sex scenes in this book were boring as fuck, I’m sorry to say.
I’m probably going to read the next book in the series but I’m surprisingly not in a big rush to do so (contrary to my normal obsessive attitude about series.)

*AUDIOBOOK*

I started out really enjoying this book! I loved Millie’s independent, badass feminist character and I loved that the love interest (who she didn’t see coming) was her best friend’s mysterious spy brother.

Millie and her friends were a riot; independent and adventurous and l the darlings of society. I loved Lady Chastelton. I loved the peek into the 1800s nobles’ lives of balls and dresses and house calls and rides in the park (all requirements of a good regency romance book).

Halfway through the book, I felt the conclusion was already upon me; how did I still have half of a book left?! My answer was that the author really drew this one out. Unfortunately, the second half of the book was mostly non-spicy content and it dragged on and on and on… The second half of the book was multiple instances of Charles making dumb mistakes (for a well-seasoned spy) and Millie saving him. I almost DNF a few times (once with only 30 minutes left!).

I absolutely loved the book! Millie, Aimee and Janelle have been best friends for years. They made a pact when they were 12 that they would never marry unless each of their prerequisites are met. Charles the Marquess of Chaselton comes home after a 8 years on a mission to not only find his fathers murderer and to escort the 3 around during there first season. Millie becomes ensnarled in Charles mission. You have intrigue, danger, adventure and passion all wrapped up in a delicious read!

It’s interesting enough I just found the book to be kind of long and dragged out. We met the 3 girls who made a pack to never marry but each had 1 exemption to the pack.

This story was about one of the friends falling for one of her best friend’s older brother.

He was on the hunt to find out who killed his dad & there was a little spy thriller going on but it wasn’t very well done I found it very predictable which made the book just drag on.

Their relationship was cut enough.

I have read a great many regency romance novels (as well as other genres) and had become a bit bored with the storylines but this novel grasped my interest and held it to the end. I have read works with a similar plot but the unique characters and entertaining writing style combined to make this read quite enjoyable. So enjoyable, in fact, that I pre-ordered the second work.

Not enough Sex

First time reading this author. I will give the story 3&1/2 stars because I liked Chase & Millie. There was not enough sex for me. I do not prefer murder, mystery or mayhem in my historical romance, just plain old fashioned love story, with lots and lots of steamy, hot sex. I am not sure at this time if I will buy the other books in the trilogy.

Quite good. Spying, espionage, traitors, murder, and secret society of elites trying to take over England- and then also a romance where the younger sisters best friend falls in love with her friends older brother.

Such a great book! Can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series! Just love how the two main characters are so blind for so long then thing change and it gets romantic!

Story was fine, hero didn't believe in the heroine. Got some secrets and action bits.
