Goldfinger and Me: Bullets, Bullion and Betrayal: John Palmer's True Story

Rate this book
The life, crimes and bloody end of John 'Goldfinger' Palmer were straight out of a Hollywood blockbuster – and Marnie Palmer, his wife of forty years, had a front row seat. The poor Solihull lad, whose childhood home was so cold the goldfish froze, fought his way up to a lifestyle of private jets, yachts and Ferraris, thanks to a home-made gold smelter in his back garden and a multi-million-pound timeshare empire. By the turn of the millennium, Palmer was 105th on the Sunday Times Rich List, but Goldfinger had a long list of enemies. In Goldfinger and Me, his widow Marnie shares her unique insight into his roller coaster life, from dealing scrap in Bristol, to the Brink's-Mat raid that changed their lives – ending with his downfall of betrayals, jail stints and his still unsolved assassination.

Story of a crook

Interesting story about a gangster involved in well known crimes. He comes over as a venal charmer. It’s hard to feel sorry for his family as they were happy to take his money then feel sorry for themselves when it all goes wrong. Worth a quick read and eye opening

Bitter and twisted woman, who had an affair and blamed everything on everyone else. Shit

Shit. Mad ex wife, trying too hard to justify being a lousy human. Crap book, full of self indulgence. Poo.

Good

A very good read and. It seems a very honest account of her life with John Palmer although I wonder if she'd of been as honest if she was still with him now nevertheless well worth a read

Quite a good read. A man who made a fortune from crime and the extravagant life he led to his downfall and the downfall of his wife. I wonder if Marnie looks back she regrets everything. She lost her husband, her daughters and her dignity.

Interesting

I'd recently watched a Brinks Mat documentary and was interested in finding out a bit more about the major players. This book was easy enough to read and filled a few gaps in my knowledge .

Very interesting read

Food for thought. You're luck in your life without him. Thinks can only get better. Your daughters are due a wake up call.

Devastating memoir. It challenges everything you think you know about John Palmer and Brinks Mat.

Marnie deserved better. I hope she has an easier life now.

John Palmer was at one time estimated to have wealth richer then the Queen led a crime filled gangsters life in Uk and Spain and was secretly at 1 time melting down gold bars from the infamous 1983 Brinks Mat robbery in London so the gang could turn the gold into cash. Here John's widow Marnie tells in her own words about her life with Goldfinger and what he was really like to live with and as a family man and about the double life he led also. If you like true crime stories im sure you will enjoy this one

Funny how Police corruption or plain incompetence makes any small time crook a mastermind.

Funny how the less relevant the publisher the more powerful the criminal.

Funny how the less documented the text, the more real it is. Or so they say.
