Four months after pulling a young boy from the freezing water while off duty, Tucker is struck by a car and shot. When he wakes up and finds the woman he’s had his eye on standing vigil over him, he’s thankful to be alive, but after weeks of therapy, Tucker still isn’t getting the feeling back in his legs, and the mind games are starting to wreak havoc with him. A few days ago the plot of “Mended by Love” from Stacy Eaton captured my attention and I thought I should give this book a try as soon as my busy blog schedule allows.

Turns out it was sooner than expected because another book was late. I was not sure what to expect when it came to the writing style of this author as this is my first book from her.

Even if you like a Plot and the story is really well developed that still does not mean that you are going to like the writing style. So I was pleased to find out that she has a steady and well developed style, so just the way I like it. Knowing it was the third book in a series I was careful when starting it because I was unsure if it would work out as a standalone.

But I am happy to report that it can easily be read as just that, the only thing you will have to live with is that you will inevitably spoiler the ending of the first books to you – obviously.
I still have the first two books here to read and I will do so soon, but I was just to curious about this one to start in the right order.

We meet our characters right when the female lead is in the middle of her busy work and the male leads world suddenly comes to a full stop. I liked the playful dialogues that got better and better during their developing relationship.

And I really REALLY liked the way the author did not shy away from subjects relating to Tucker’s injuries, things that are often neglected in other novels. And believe me I read a bunch of novels around these subjects.

This honest writing style made the story feel more real to me. During the progress of the storyline I could easy follow the train of thoughts the leading characters had until a certain point near the end.
Here I would have wished for the story to be a wee bit more slow and less jumpy, because until then the pace had been steady, but here I felt a little like the characters were deprived of their great finale.

Therefore I was unfortunately not able to give the full set of stars but only 4 (but to be honest getting the 5 stars is really not that easy with me as I have a very strict rule that includes “No crying, laughing or other strong emotions during reading = NO 5 Stars)

Mended by love is a solid romance that I can only recommend if you thing this Blurb appeals to you.

I am only 8% in, but this book already rubs me the wrong way. The hero is a police officer, so (as in many books) the threat of injury while in the line of duty is a lurking worry. However, Stacy Eaton – a former member of law enforcement herself – takes it way past "support community first responders who put themselves in danger" to demonstrate the one-sided rhetoric of the Blue Lives Matter movement, building sympathy for its side while it dehumanizes anyone who doesn't fall in line.

I'll make a few footnotes on this passage (which is excerpted):

*****
Last night, a young man was shot by an officer while he was robbing a local market,[1] and tonight everyone was on the warpath.[2] The country had gone nuts recently, constantly jumping on the vicious bandwagon of hatred for the police.[3] Everyone screamed for justice for the kid who had pulled a gun on the storekeepers and the police officer who had responded. It had been a justified shooting,[4] but the citizens didn't see it that way. To them, it was just another reason to cause riots and make noise. [see note 3]

My partner Camille and I were on riot patrol. There were pedestrians everywhere, and we were just trying to keep the peace.[5] We understood that people wanted answers, but why did they feel they had the right to torch cars and loot shops while they waited for them?[6] It didn't make sense. What happened to the respect police officers had after 9-11?[7]

[...]
I was a good officer. I cared about people. I took as much time as I could to comfort victims and assist with what needed to be done. I prided myself on my integrity and all that I had accomplished in my job[8] – but tonight was not about helping someone in need; it was about keeping the masses in line and protecting property. [9]
[...]

. . .the last thing I wanted was to turn my back to the rioters, especially the one young man who was eyeing me with a sneer on his face. . .

"Fuck you, copper! Your dirty ass should be the one lying six feet under!" another of the men bellowed at me.

[The hero gets run over by an SUV who struck him on purpose and is lying on the ground in pain.]
When I opened my eyes, the young man who had been sneering at me stood four feet away, a grin so evil it brought a chill to my spine. In his hand, a black handgun glinted in the lamplight, the muzzle pointed straight at my forehead.

I froze. There was no way I could get to my gun before that boy – and that's what he was, no older than 18 or 19 – put a bullet in me. There was no hesitation in his dark eyes, no wavering of conscience. I knew without a doubt that he would do it. [10]

His finger began to pull the trigger back, and I braced myself. In that moment, I prayed to St. Michael the patron saint of law enforcement, and to God himself. [11]
*****
[1]: So a kid gets shot while committing robbery. The kid had a gun, whether as a visual threat or actually used as a weapon - okay. Now think about the way mass murderers such as Dylan Roof, who targeted people for their race and killed them as they welcomed him into their worship, was taken into custody without the use of force. How often does this happen in our society?

[2] Great; let's use a word that reminds us of the savagery of non-whites. (Ironic, since Native "savages" had their land and homes stolen from them by invaders swaggering around behind bigger weapons.)

[3] Uh huh. Look how crazy this whole world has gotten! It's everywhere! Mob mentality! Nobody cares about anything but rioting!

[4] So few shootings are "justified." A flawed human being dies. The effects ripple through their lives and the lives of the people around their killer.

[5] "We're just being nice! We're just doing our job – our peaceful, caring job! It's everyone else who makes the world so crazy!"

***[6] This is at the crux of so much rhetoric demonizing Black Lives Matter supporters while patting everyone who does things "the right way" (i.e., whatever way the majority deems correct, which shifts by the hour) on the back. "Of COURSE people who loot and break things are bad!" we're supposed to say – ignoring the deep pain of hundreds of years of dehumanization and discrimination.

For a detailed and powerful rebuttal, please watch Kimberly Jones' speech, "How Can We Win?" recorded after the murder of George Floyd in a situation very similar to the one described in this book. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llci8...

[7] Respect is earned. Why should we automatically trust all police officers because of the brave actions of those who sacrificed themselves 20 years ago in one city – particularly when we know of the culture of police silence and brutality that exists everywhere? We extend privileges through a good-ol'-boy network that gets more insidious every day.

Police officers and others in power so often sniff that people should take responsibility for their actions. This kind of passage brushes off any responsibility that an officer might have for recognizing the humanity in those around them, as well as recognizing the imperfection of one's own efforts.

[8] "Not ALL police officers. If there ARE bad police officers, it's just a few bad apples. I'M one of the good guys."

[9] "Keeping the masses in line and protecting property" - first off, in what world is any property more valuable than the life and health of human beings? But this turn of phrase, again, makes us consider those opposing the police as a faceless, writhing mob instead of individuals who are hurting.

[10] This whole passage is gross. Here is a nasty, evil criminal just looking for trouble – not the anguished human beings wondering when – not if – they and the people they love will be targeted and killed for simply existing. If you've ever actually spoken with people "looking for answers," which I guess is one of the few non-inflammatory parts of this passage, that's most likely who you would find.

[11] Again, boost the sympathy for the police by invoking God and a saint. What a pure, religious, GOOD person this police officer is in the face of the inhuman, nameless EVIL that took them down.

There are so many other ways to draw a reader's sympathy than by painting the people officers are supposed to serve with such a broad, NASTY brush.

Stacy Eaton, I've enjoyed your books in the past, but you won't get any of my money from here on out. I hope others will consider this before reading as well.

Yet another reminder of why I rarely buy books and should just stick with KU selections. That way I don't resent the waste of my money when the book doesn't deliver. They rarely do.

But I'd had my eye on this one for a while, just wish I'd looked at the length of the book before one-clicking. It's short, and therefore it's no mystery that it was rushed and the writing was more contrivance than inspiration.

Josey knew Tucker a whole three weeks before she was head over heels for him. Now, that man wouldn't have been recovered enough for her to know him enough to fall in love with him. In reality he would have been barely coherent for at least a week.
But in Romancelandia who really cares about realism? I mean, just hours after being mowed down by an SUV, then gut-shot, then having cardiac arrest from shock and blood loss and then surgeons rooting around his innards for bullet fragments, this guy was almost fully lucid!
Amazing!
🙄
He had a second day-long surgery less than 24 hours later and yup, you guessed it. Alert and oriented right out of the operating theatre.
Made me wonder if the writer ever witnessed someone after trauma surgery because this was all too neat and tidy - particularly because Tuck's injuries were overkill. Why was he hit by a speeding automobile in addition to being shot? There was no way he was adjusting to using a wheelchair, getting himself to the bathroom and being discharged from hospital within a week. No way. Not with that much trauma and the temporary paralysis of his legs.

I guess if one can believe this, they can also get past a surgical nurse suddenly becoming a private care nurse. Or to believe that a nurse dedicated to her job could be so lonely and desperate as to behave as inappropriately as Josey does.
I expected her to at least try to remain professional, not to flirt and fondle her patient and spoon feed him peach cobbler.

And just a quick note about Tucker's parents. What self-absorbed cowards! Especially his mother. God that woman needed a slap up her head! All she did was cry and avoid her son because she couldn't accept him in a fucking wheelchair. She acted like a spoilt child with a broken toy. I thought the dad was stronger but instead of being there for his kid after insisting he recover in his childhood home, he avoided him because of his injury. How pathetic.

In the end, Josey and Tucker just weren't fleshed out enough and the story lacked depth because it was short and rushed. The serious subject matter took a back seat to the H/h's mutually immediate and ostensibly unrequited feelings. That's a damn shame too, because in light of recent year's events in the US an opportunity was missed to tell a relevant and meaningful tale.
Why?
The writer used to be a cop, and
Tucker was a cop whose injuries were received in line-of-duty, during a civil unrest. Citizens with an axe to grind with the police made their point with Tucker. Very relevant to the times, but unfortunately that part of the story wasn't explored.

That isn't the story the writer chose to tell, and that's her right. But the one she did tell had potential of its own had it been given the time and attention it deserved. Instead it read like something dashed off in a hurry to fulfill a deadline. What sucks is that the writer is capable of so much more than lightweight, fantasy instalove on the other side of the raised expectations of a misleading blurb.

Do better.
I find myself saying that more than I like.

Josey Napier was the head surgical operating room nurse in a New York hospital. There was a police officer coming in that was hit by a car and then shot. Josey had to go down to the emergency room to assess the situation before they brought him to the operating room. Josey was shocked when she saw it was Tucker Wheatcraft. They had hung out together a few times as he had saved her best friend's boy when he fell in a frozen river. She told Tucker she was there for him. Josey's presence made Tucker feel calm, so Josey came to see him often. He is going to have a long recovery, so the best place for Tucker to recover is his parent's house in Texas. He asks Josey to come with him as his nurse to help. You need to read the book to see what happens.

I really loved this book. There are some books that just touch your heart and this was one. I laughed and cried in this book. There was pain and suffering, but also a lot of determination. There was love and struggles. We get to see behind the scenes of a hospital and of the brotherhood of the police. I loved Josey and Tucker as well as some of the other characters. It was a great book and I encourage you to read it. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

Heal Me Series, Book 3
By: Stacy Eaton
Narrated by: M.K. Blackwood, Justin Hale

Stacy Eaton does it again with this third book in her Heal Me series. Josie is a nurse, dedicated to her job and patients. She hardly ever takes time off. When Tucker is admitted after a brutal attack, she finds her heart is right there with him. Tucker is facing a life changing injury and his recovery needs special attention. Asking Josie to be his private nurse for the beginning of it seems natural for him. His attraction has been there since they met and now is his chance to get to know her better. But there are obstacles. What about her job? Could she be a private nurse? Will he make a full recovery? And if not, would she want to be with him? Eaton takes us on a realistic journey as Tucker deals with life as it changes and finds his new normal . Josie is a true to life character, facing her feelings as well as finding her passion professionally. It’s compassionate and real. I loved it!!

The narration is fantastic!! MK Blackwood and Justin Hale fall into their characters with ease and bring all the emotions to story. Their voices compliment each other and create a world that was easy to escape into. It’s a listen that is easy on the ears yet one I will not forget.

This story touched my heart. If you have been reading the Heal Me Series, which I hope you are, you will remember Tucker who was a police officer and saved Jasmine’s son when he fell through the ice. Josey has been to a few parties where Tucker also attended. He has asked about her, but nothing came from it. I was so glad that Josey was a nurse and at the hospital when Tucker was attacked by some protesters. I know Josey was glad to help him and make him more comfortable even though she doesn’t know him well. I loved the connection they had. Josey had gotten her heart broke in the first story of the series, and she is gun shy where it comes to relationships. She had so much patience and understanding with Tucker, and how he is reacting to his disability from the accident. I don’t know how I would feel if something like that happened to me or a loved one. It is interesting how everyone handles disabilities differently. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

This is a beautiful story of a broken heart and a broken body and how they Mend together.
Josey, a Surgical Nurse, thought that the she was suffering from a broken heart when she found out that her long time crush only thought of her as a sister. But once she becomes Tucker’s nurse, she realizes that she was never in love before.
Tucker, a Police Officer, ran down by a car and then shot ends up in Josey’s OR. He had admired Josey from afar and now she is the only one that can calm him down and comfort him. Will she ever be able to love someone in a wheelchair.
This story reached me on a personal level because I have a disabled child. I could relate to Tucker’s mother not being able to accept her child being in a wheelchair, because my own mother had difficulty accepting my child, her grandchild, being in a wheelchair. Fortunately, Gloria, Tucker’s mom came around, just like my mother did in real life.
Ms. Eaton has a way of writing about real life situations. Kudo’s Stacy Eaton!

I really enjoy this series but I think this might be my favorite book out all of them. Josey has given up on love. She thought she was in love once and it didn't work out so she has just let it go. Sometimes, it's when we stop looking that things comeinto view. When Tucker is injured, Josey is there to care for him. Tucker has a long haul to recovery and for some reason, he thinks he can't do it without Josey. This story is original, cares a steady pace with a natural progression, has emotional highs and lows but isn't overly traumatic. All of the spporting cast is there to play a significant role and no just as background filler. Great story, fun to read, loved it.

Josey worked night as a surgical OR nurse in NYC. A cop comes in the ER after being hit by a car and was shot. Josey goes down to the ER to see how bad the injuries were. At that time she realizes she knows the cop. Turned out to be Tucker, the cop who saved her friends son. Tucker was told he may never walk again. When he was being released to convinced Josey to go to Texas with him to help with recovery. The book title is perfect for this book. I found myself crying for Tucker. This is a standalone with a HEA.

Josey and Tucker have mutual friends in common but only vaguely know each other. That is until Tucker is horribly injured on duty and lands up in Josey’s OR. She’s able to give him a friendly face to focus on while in the emergency room. While Tucker is recovering from his injuries with emotional support and friendship from Josey a mutual attraction sparks. I just loved watching their relationship unfold. I saw watching because I felt like I was right in the story with them. A great book that I definitely recommend!

After police officer Tucker Wheatcraft is hit by a car and shot during the line of duty, he is left paralyzed in his legs. He convinces Josey, a surgical nurse to take time off to be his personal nurse during his recovery. Being together 24/7, the two become close and things heat up between them...unfortunately for them, so do their insecurities and fears! Great book with well developed characters and how they handle misfortune, love and misunderstandings! I highly recommend this book!

This story will have you gasping as a police officer is attacked, smiling at the teasing between him and nurse he knew through mutual friends and crying while officer is healing and dealing with pain and depression and pushing away the one who loves him and challenges him. Whew. There is so much emotion in this story. I loved it. I received a complimentary copy and I am giving a review voluntarily.

I loved the dual narration of M.K. Blackwood and Justin Hale. Perfect

In this great book we meet Josey, who is a surgical nurse and Tucker who is a NY police officer. They have mutual friends in Walker and Jasmine. One night while Josey is working night shift , Tucker is brought in. Tucker is in critical condition. Josey recognized him immediately. Josey and Tucker have always had an attraction to each other but never acted on it. This is a very emotional and romantic story.

Absolutely brilliant story. Tucker was a police officer and one day he was badly injured while on duty. He was hit by a 4wd, thrown up into the air, then shot in the stomach. Someone who came to his aid was Josey, a surgical nurse from the hospital where Walker worked. They knew each other but only vaguely at outings with the group of friends. She stays by his side and is on the surgical team during his surgeries. Tucker has no feeling in his legs and may never walk again. Plus a terrible wound on his upper leg. Knowing he is going to be released from hospital soon, he asks Josey to go back to Texas with him. His parents have a huge addition to their home where they can both stay. She could assist Tucker with his recovery as he can do basically nothing for himself. Josey agrees. What an absolutely fabulous book this was and I loved every bit of it. I read it as part of the Heal Me Boxed Set. Every book in the set is brilliant.

"Mended By Love: A Remington Kindle World Romance novella) by Stacy Eaton

A stand alone novella that is also the third book in the Remington Kindle World Series by this author, "Mended By Love" just might be my favorite (of the three).

Stacy Eaton wrote her first Remington Kindle World novella, "Cured By Love" May 2015 and her second novella, "Revived By Love" February 2016.

"Mended By Love" is a moving and heartwarming novella with an honest look at what one experiences with sudden loss of their limbs, temporarily or permanently.

Josie Napier works as an OR specialist. Tucker Wheatcraft is a New York City police officer. One night he is brought in after suffering from two traumas. From that moment on, both Josie's and Tucker's lives change forever.

An honest look at what one person's experience is as their life changes forever. In just a fraction of minutes. An honest look at at how this affects the individual and those around him or her as a new reality sets in. For Tucker, he fought to live and face his new reality, not yet knowing what that would be. Once he has made it through the worst, he has to decide whether he will continue to fight for his life or let the changes in his life control him. Will he let Josie into his life, as he has wanted for a couple of years, or will he push her away?

Stacy Eaton has written a novel that from word one draws the reader in and keeps them so engaged the reader will not want to put this novella down, even once the last word has been read. It is an engaging, honest, enchanting, personal, heartrending and heartwarming novella.

It is the type of work Stacy Eaton is known for: a strong story line, strong and well defined characters who have a strong voice all of their own. A story that the reader doesn't want to end. It pulls the reader in and reading straight through is the only possibility because putting it down is too hard.

I absolutely loved this story of Josie and Tucker...and the special joint wedding for the characters in the previous novellas. A wonderful ending for all.

Mended by Love is the 3rd Kindle World: The Remingtons book by Stacy Eaton. You don't need to have read Cured by Love, or Revived by Love, as they are all standalone reads, but characters from the other books appear in this book, so you may want to read all 3 - I would advise it.
Josey is a nurse and Tucker is a cop, and they've met a few times socially, even though they have not spoken in depth to one another.
The book starts at the hospital where Josey is beginning her night shift, as they prepare to receive multiple patients from an incident. Tucker has been hit by a car, and then shot. Josey recognises him as a friend of her friends, Mark and Joanne, and the guy that saved Joanne's son from an icy lake, a while ago. The last face Tucker sees before going into the OR is Josey's.
The book is centred around Tucker's long recovery, and he asks Josey to be his private nurse. Will she go with him to Texas, and will the spark between them bloom into anything more?
With an appearance by Dex & Ellie (from Melissa Foster's Game of Love) plus other supporting characters, this story builds gradually into a sweet HEA.
I would thoroughly recommend this book, and I hope Stacy continues to write more in The Remingtons Kindle World.

One thing I absolutely love about Stacy's books is that they all have their own voice. I'm not sure why but this book felt totally different for me from all of stacy's other books. The emotion was rolling off the pages more so than they usually do. Don't get me wrong all of Stacy's books have their our voice. But something about this story just did me in and this was definitely another amazing book written in true Stacy Eaton fashion..

Tucker and Josie were amazingly passionate and caring people. Their love of helping others was admirable. and of course they had two of my most favorite careers ever.

Thus story had so much heart and soul. I was saddened to see it end. I'm praying they'll get a major spotlight in the next Remington Kindle World set. And once again I love the intertwined connections of friendships between all these books. I feel a larger and larger connection to all the characters which each and every book I read in this series.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. ♡

First you have to understand I really really Like Stacy Eaton as an author. I like her crisp writing style, her real characters, the adventures and romance that happens during the every day events of life. This book is part of a Kindle World Series - while it can be read alone; you will enjoy it more if you read the others also. How often have you read a book and said to yourself, "Self, I wonder what happens with side character 1 - she is spunky - would love to know more." These kindle world books do that. I love the added depth - like your own small town in books.

Josey and Tucker, sigh worthy, really. Strong yet flawed characters - aren't we all. The story line is in other reviews so not added here. Josey - fierce, compassionate, and bruised by circumstances. Tucker - strong, hero like, used to being in charge and the doer - forced to let others do for him.... how do you deal with what life throws at you? '

You will like this book.

Loved this story!! You should read the first 2 books in this series to enjoy it completely but you don't have to. This is the 3rd couple to find their happily ever after!! Loved that they all were connected and the story just kept on flowing!! This book is about Josey Napier and Tucker Wheatcraft. Josey, who is a surgical nurse, is working night shift and Tucker is brought in. Tucker is in critical condition. Josey recognized him immediately. Tucker is a NY City Police Officer and also a friend of Mark and Joanne from Revived By Love. Josey and Tucker have always had an attraction to each other but never acted on it. With Josey agreeing to be Tucker's nurse can these two stand the heat!!! Another explosive story that you will love!! Very emotional!! Definitely a one click buy!!

Police Officer Tucker Wheatcraft had been hailed as a hero when he saved a child from drowning on off duty hours. While working an out of control protest crowd he is struck by a car and immobile on the ground with a compound fracture of his leg and faces a gun pointed at his head. The assailant tackled by his partner, gets off a shot to his abdomen.
Josie Napier is a chief surgical nurse, and follows Tucker through two surgeries, and the trauma of wondering if he'll ever walk again. Tucker finds great comfort in Josey's presence. He convinces her to be his rehab nurse at his parents home in Texas. Soon they want more than a nurse/patient relationship. Full review on http://www.tbqsbookpalace.com

"I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book." Josie is an ordinary lady just trying to get by and put the past behind her. She's hoping for a brighter future and just qants what any woman wants, happiness & love. She finds it in the most unexpected place. Tucker wasn't thinking he'd actually get the chance to get close to Josie, whom he's been eyeing for a while now. Now he's got the chance but circumstances aren't gonna make it easy for him. Story of unexpected love in an unusual situation and overcoming trials and tribulations.

True love

Tucker suffers a life changing event which leaves him disabled. Josey stills falls in love with him but Tucker doesn't trust it and forces her away from him. True love conquers all when their friends help get them back together. Beautiful story that made me cry buckets but well worth it.
