The Man in the Mirror

Brett King, Billionaire.

Yeah, that's me. Once, I had everything: power, looks, fame, an obscene amount of money, a trophy wife, and a beautiful little boy. Then, in a blink of an eye my enviable life was taken away.

I was left with nothing except my dirty money and my heart of stone.

I looked in the mirror and could not recognize myself. God had a sense of humor. I was ugly inside and now I was ugly outside too. It was divine justice.

I retreated to my castle in Wales and allowed no one to come face to face with me. My staff carried out my instructions and asked no questions. The only thing left to me was to acquire more money that I would never spend.

The months passed and I grew accustomed to my isolation. As I roamed about alone I even began to appreciate the darkness of my life. I lost interest in the world outside the thick walls of my castle. Nothing held any interest for me anymore.

Until she came. Charlotte Conrad, the nanny.

At the end of every evening we communicated through the intercom system. She kept me informed about the progress she was making with my son, Zachary.

I was just an employer listening to his employee, but slowly, insidiously, I began to imagine her young body; soft and sensuous against mine.

I wanted to take her. I wanted to hear her talk dirty to me.

I wanted her to unleash the wild, unrestrained animal that was lurking inside me.

I was becoming addicted...

I am just not having much luck with my recent reads from the backlist of this author…and I love her books. But this one just sat there. It was meh. Not good…not bad.

Charlotte is a well respected nanny and she has been hired to care for a young five year old boy. She is hired by the wife of the hero….yes you read that correctly. The hero is married and they have a child. Now the wife is evil and conniving and the reader cannot help but hate her but it is not a safe read in that aspect that the relationship begins when he is married. It is also a slow burn compared to her other books.

The hero Brett is disfigured from a car accident and has hidden himself away in the castle because of his appearance. He is a likable hero at times but my feelings changed as the story evolved.

I wouldn’t recommend this one. But I will continue to make my way through the backlist. Happy reading.

Have you ever wanted a steamy Beauty and the Beast retelling? You might not get the Disney fantasy, but you will get the true love part. Or will you?

Charlotte is a nanny and she goes in a rich family to take care of a little boy. His mother is demanding and his father stays in his room at all times.

Mr. King survived a fire accident and half of his face is covered with a golden mask, to hide the sad memories. He almost never goes out and his son is scared of him. Also,he only visits him at night.
He always talks to his son’s nannies through the intercom, to ask about his day. But with this nanny, it feels different. He can’t wait to hear her voice.

Compared to ‘’Nanny and the Beast’’, The Man in the Mirror is not as steamy, and the love relationship feels a bit more realistic. However, the story is still under developed for my tastes.
The nannies in Georgia’s books are represented in a bit of an unrealistic way. As a nanny, I think you will always influence the child you spend time with. Bear in mind, you spend all day, every day with them. But there are rules and boundaries set by the parents, and you do not cross those. The author somehow forgot about this part, it seems.

The Man in the Mirror opens up plenty of topics for discussion and in the end, it is a quick and enjoyable read. Georgia’s books are the ones that you pick up, wanting to have a quick read moment and relax.

If this book sounds intriguing, go and grab your copy, and let me know in the comments whether you enjoyed it.

As much as I love Georgia's stories, this one reminded me so much of her book Disfigured love (which I LOVED, btw) and I couldn't help but comparing the two, and in this case, The Man in the Mirror came out second.

I know, it's a different aspect and a different storyline with merely similar subject the story concerns with, but in this book, the main thing that I couldn't find (but I have in Disfigured love) was the emotional connection between the main characters. I needed that to feel complete and I couldn't find it or move forward beyond their mutual appeal and mystified allure for one another. Thus making this story shadowed by my own reflections of the thing I know Georgie can deliver to the point of no return, but not here.

Nevertheless, for the rest of you (who are not deterred by the emotions and recollections past LOL) this is a solid romance with a little bit of angst and a very huge HEA.

Box of Shame for Me

It has to be said that I, like everyone else I’m sure, have weaknesses. One of my known weaknesses is the “Beauty and the Beast” thing.

I really really love that for some crazy reason. And so when I stumbled upon this one I was really excited.

Sadly though, I didn’t like this one. I’ve finished it some time ago and I just thought about it really hard.

I’m mostly into MM reads for the last few years, and I wanted to make double sure that’s not the reason I didn’t enjoy the book.

It’s not though. I can honestly say that now. There were just too many things that didn’t work for me.

Please don’t read this as it is A SPOILER AND IT WILL SPOIL the book for you if you go ahead. Be warned.

There. I spoke my mind and I’m sorry for being the odd one out in not thinking this deserves 5 stars.

I immediately deduct a star when the author has to over exaggerate a character in order for the reader to dislike him/her.

Exaggeration was painted so thick in this one, we had to scrape at it with a putty knife to try and see how dear Mrs King was remotely spawned from her late Great and Wonderful father. She evidently DIDN”T get the genes.

And Mr King obviously is not a good judge of character so we really don’t know HOW great the late mentor really was.. Hmmm.

I think I've said enough.

This was a nice easy read.
There’s no surprises, it goes exactly as expected. But I enjoyed it anyway. Although not as much as her earlier Disfigured Love.

My main issue was the apparent lack of chemistry between the Brett and Charlotte.

But it’s a nice easy read and Zachary is simply adorable.

"The Man in the Mirror" is the story of Charlotte and Brett.

Our heroine is a good looking Au pair, who hides behind a dowdy front and gets hired to work in a remote mansion. It is inhabited by a strange family- the mother is a shrew who openly takes lovers; the child is a pale, shy boy who is afraid of his own shadows, has an unhealthy attachment to his mother and whose life is governed by an insane list of his mother's rules; the father is a scarred recluse hiding in a tower. The heroine, who has already lost a close friend, decides to make some changes defying the mother. She starts taking care of the son, while also fixing his broken relationship with his father. As expected, this leads to a blooming romance between her and the father. There is loads of hot sex, some insane drama, a rushed ending and a sweet epilogue.

I am not the biggest fan of romance in which either MCs are married- in this the hero had been separated for a long time but it's still awkward reading sex scenes between them. The chemistry is good, their is minimal angst, but my biggest issue was the rushed ending. It would have been better if we had been shown scenes where they helped the child recover and the mother getting her comeuppance, instead of everything happening off the page. Nice ending.

When Charlotte arrives at the castle in Wales she's not sure what to expect. Being a nanny, she has come to look after Zackery. What she finds is a scared little boy who seems to have an unhealthy obsession with his mother. The whole set up is quiet different from what Charlotte has known. The rules and list she is handed by Jillian the boys mother is like nothing she's dealt with before. She knows something is not right.

Brett is scarred and keeps himself hidden away in the wing of the castle. His only real contact is through an intercom system he has with his staff. The horror he lives with daily not only with his outer appearance but inside as well. He lost the man he considered a father in a horrific accident the same that left him scarred. His marriage is a farce, his wife Jillian flaunts her affairs and has no care for anyone but herself. She has also managed to turn his son from him. Filling Zackery's head with wild tales about the monster is father is.

It's hearing Charlottes voice over the intercom that things change. Her voice, theirs something about it, compelling.

Charlotte also is shocked the first time she hears his voice. The way it sounds, it does something to her. When she catches a glimpse of him in a mirror she is not afraid. This man may be horribly scarred but that does not distract from his beauty. She does not see the scars, she sees the man.

She slowly manages to bring young Zackery out of his shell. The scared little boy who was influenced by his mothers is starting open up. The way Charlotte brings father and son together is moving. So be prepared for some tears.

A beautiful story, of love and hope. The attraction began before these two even met. They didn't need to see each to fall in love. A new author for me and one I will be sure to check her other books out.

A STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL TALE!!!
Oh man, I love this refreshing, breathtaking, gut wretching, pulse racing, page turning, thrill ride that can cut into your soul or bring you to your knees in an instant type of read. Georgia cuts to the chase in this beautiful, heartwarming, soul searin tale that brings a hard hitting topic into the light. Yes, I admit I cried, sue me. The main characters chemistry is white hot and off the charts explosive. You can't help but fall in love with this familial group. The characters and their personalities are so realistic and believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are descriptive and detailed it really pulls this magnificent storyline together brilliantly. Georgia seems to wield her words as skillfully and precise as a surgeon with his scalpel. The twists and turns along with a few glitches here and there make for one enjoyable experience. You have a plethora of emotions to sort through but it's totally worth the sadness, fear and betrayal. I love Georgia's style she totally nailed this bad boy. Georgia did an excellent job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Fantastic job Georgia, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.

3.5 stars for me.
I know that this author would hate me to tell anything but the truth and so I'm going to have to admit to struggling with this story, hard to put a finger on it, but it didn't quite hit the mark.

That being said, please don't pay any attention to my thoughts, this one's clearly reviewing well, so it's on me that it fell a little short.

I loved the story line; and I liked the characters, but definitely would’ve liked to get to know the two primaries on a deeper level. The plot moved quickly, and the writing was polished. This book makes for the perfect summer read!

Wow what an emotional story! The backdrop of this story details a very sensitive subject. Let’s address the elephant in the room. Cheating. Hold your horses! Stop! The cheater is not the hero/husband. Keep going? There are circumstances surrounding the marriage that I cannot divulge without ruining the story.

The hero is a destroyed man in so many ways. His story is achingly poignant. Zackary owned by soul. Jillian, a spoiled, entitled heifer will learn the hard way you can’t have your cake and eat it too. Wrong bakery, honey! Charlotte is a generous soul. I could go on and on. The characters are so adorable and each play such an intricate role in this story.

Consider this story if you dare. You won’t be disappointed.

Four stars!

I tried, I really did and 68% shows that. Unfortunately I couldn’t make myself read anymore. The author lost me in the beginning of the book and there just was not a single part of the next 50% of the book that gripped me and said, it’s been worth it! It wasn’t.

Insta-love. God. The main character literally had 2 conversations with this guy, over the intercom, plus one dirty dream and she was in love. IN LOVE. The conversations revolved around the kid and that was it. I’m 68% through and they still have not had a decent grown up conversation.

68% and she has only been there for maybe a week. If it’s been longer than that then poor story building was also a factor.

If you want a book where the story comes secondary to the dirty...this books for you. Definitely not for me.

Cheating

I don’t like cheating. I don’t really care if the couple isn’t in love or the other person cheated or they are miserable to each other...I don’t like it. I don’t think they should stay together I just think they should end it. You hate each other anyway? And if you are as rich as the guy in the story you can get one easily. Anyway it would have been a four star read. Ok off my soapbox.

I loved this book, it's no secret I m one of the biggest fans of Georgia writing from the time i first read the billionaire banker series, and that is five years ago. I love her writing style and her tortured and broken heroes, and her sharp mind. She has a unique writing style and that always captived me. The men in the mirror are not your typical cliche nanny -boss romance. Trust me never put this book on that shelf. It's such a heartbreaking, sad story about men who in one second lose everything. Charlotte is such a great heroine, she is strong, brave and has a heart full of love. She is a perfect fit for our hero Brett. I hated Julian from the start and i m so glad she got what she deserves in the end. Zackary is an amazing part of the story. The epilogue is great, another big plus from me. The man in the mirror is slow burn romance but you can feel the chemistry between the H and h.
All in all do yourself a favor buy this book, trust me you will be captived until the last page like i was
Highly recommended
And can't wait for Georgia next book

SENSUAL, SEXY, & SO MUCH MORE!!!
Title: The Man In The Mirror
Author: Georgia Le Carre
Designation: Full-Length, Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Contemporary Billionaire Romance
My Rating: Four Sinfully Sexy Stars****

Wow, what an unexpected and very delightful surprise! And why is it such a surprise? Because I detest nanny/wealthy employer story arcs. It's one of my least favorite tropes, so I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really enjoyed The Man In The Mirror. A few months ago, Le Carre released Nanny and The Beast which I quickly dismissed as not my cup of tea, simply because of my preconceived judgments of all nanny/employer plot device constructs. But even after weeks had passed, I found myself still thinking about the book and doubting my decision. A few days ago, Le Carre released a second nanny/wealthy employer romance, The Man In The Mirror, featuring one of the secondary characters from Nanny and The Beast, and once again I found myself intrigued, tempted and torn. Now I should insert here that I became a Le Carre fan 5 years ago after reading The Billionaire Banker Series and generally purchase all her new releases, no questions asked, but I didn't want to spend my hard earned money on books I felt sure I wouldn't enjoy. But for some inexplicable reason, I couldn't stop thinking about either book, so I decided to place my trust in Le Carre as an author, purchased both, and dove in. Best decision ever! Neither of the books was the same tired, old, clichéd stereotype I thought them to be - they were so much more than I could have ever imagined! Never have I been happier to admit my misconception. I fell in love with the mysterious Yuri and kindhearted April in Nanny and The Beast, and I simply adored tortured Brett and spirited Charlotte in The Man In The Mirror. Le Carre's sensual prose, skillful plot progression, superb character development, and easy-to-follow first-person narrative with clearly defined his and her perspectives captured my undivided attention and held me prisoner, completely spellbound and enthralled, from the first page till the last.

So, did I like Nanny and The Beast and The Man In The Mirror? Yes, very much! Georgia Le Carre, you accomplished the impossible, something no author has been able to do in the last 65 years - you completely changed my opinion of nanny/wealthy employer romance tropes! I'm almost 70 years young and it takes a whole heck of a lot to change my mind about something, but you did! I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks after all! lol... Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Would I recommend this book? You bet! Actually, I recommend both books but only for adult readers since each contains tortured, dark heroes, sassy heroines, explicit language, and graphic sex (dreamy love scenes). And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and awesome reads!

The Man In The Mirror is undeniably captivating. Georgia Le Carre has given us a treasure with this beautiful story. Charlotte is hired to be the nanny of a boy named Zackary who lives in a castle with his estranged parents, Jillian and Brett. Brett stays hidden in the shadows because of his disfigurement. Jillian on the other hand is controlling, cruel and manipulative. She wants to make Charlotte's life a living hell. In the darkness, she finds an unlikely ally in Brett. He is nothing what she was expecting or lead to believe. He shows her kindness and adoration, something she lacks from Jillian her boss. As Charlotte, Brett and little Zackary grow closer this will cause problems with the super jealous Jillian. Can Brett and Charlotte go forward with their blossoming attraction or will Jillian get in the way? This book was sexy, touching, intriguing, and breathtaking. It's the story of pain, loss, love and happiness. I highly recommend this tenderhearted book.

Wow I loved this book so much. I couldn’t put it down I did it in on sitting. This book reminds me of one of her other book “Disfigured Love”. God doesn’t like ugly and you sow what you reap. Jillian treated Brett so badly after his accident. You will have to read to see what happens to her. This was a great book by this author. I have read all of her books. I have never been disappointed.
I voluntarily review an advanced copy of this book.

Brett and Charlotte's story has a slow-burn feel, judging that they only seriously lusting over each other at the half-way point and act on it in the last quarter. This is, I guess, to avoid the immoral issue that Brett was still married (although readers are shown how awful Mrs. Jillian King was, both as wife and as mother).

I saw someone compared this B&B story with DISFIGURED LOVE. But except for the scarred hero, the two have almost nothing in common. In fact, I think DISFIGURED was too angst-ridden for me and I actually found Brett a more sympathetic hero. Also, big-hearted Charlotte is just the perfect heroine for him. Zachary is definitely better off with Charlotte as stepmother than Jillian being his birth mother.

One night changed Brett's life and now he struggles with everyday life. Charlotte is tired of people not seeing beneath her looks. She is determined to help him heal, but someone has other ideas. Will Brett be able to see that he isn't a monster? Will Charlotte be able to help him see the man she sees?

I honestly loved these two characters. You could feel Brett's struggle and the fact that he loved his son, but was scared of being rejected. I loved how determined Charlotte was and her never backing down from a fight. Great read!

Charlotte Conrad nanny to a Billionaires son!

Charlotte becomes the Nanny to Brett King's son , Brett was disfigured in a terrible car accident. His wife hired Charlotte to take care of the child because she didn't have time for the boy. As you read the story you will understand why, but Charlotte falls head over hills in love with the boy and his father. Great story and steamy read. Recommend 5 Stars

hated..HATED the sex scenes in this book. They seemed juvenile and corny. My number one pet peeve is a heroine that constantly uses the word fuck when having sex ...i can't stand that, for me it cheapens the moment and this book had it ALOT. I had a hard time connecting with both characters.
