I didn't like this one anywhere near as much as the other books in the series. Mainly, because it was the perfect example of why I do not like friends to lovers books. The virgin who pines for her best friend all the while he is messing around with OW, including a teacher. And she hears ALL about it, and sees the parade of women through his bedroom window. Then add in the fact that he cock blocks any guy that was interested in her, so she basically got to experience nothing...and, ya...no can do...

I have read quite a lot of asshole Heros in my time but this one took the cake!
Hero & heroine have known each other for a long time. They grew up together next door to each other and are best friends. They both have strong feelings for one another but never did anything about it. While one is a virgin, the other is "technically" as well. What do I mean by that? Hero is a virgin in the sense that he hasn't had full on intercourse yet but he is far from being a virgin 'cause he has BJs with many OW and "other stuff".
Heroine has heard his conquests brag about what he does to them and has watched women after women come out of his bedroom, as well as flirt with them in front of her and while she lusts after him & is in love with him, she finds his behavior amusing. He is a Manhore and proud of it and has no problem flaunting his conquests in front of her but gets angry at any guy who so much as looks at her - never mind touches her!
"The thing Em doesn’t know—the thing no one knows—is that I’m still a virgin. I mean, sure, I’ve messed around. I’ve done everything but have sex, because every time I got to the point of no return, I couldn’t go through with it. It just felt like I was betraying Em". Yeah, 'cause all the other things you were doing was not betraying her...you poor, poor little lamb you!
Shaking my head, I push back from the sink. How on Earth does the guy who lost his virginity to our pre-cal teacher, and who paraded a string of girls through his bedroom window in high school, think he’s fit to give me advice on what is appropriate? For the love of all things, guys have such double standards". Amen sister!
I may be a virgin, but I’ve done my fair share of playing with girls. I always paid attention to how they reacted. To what they liked, to what drove them crazy. All because I was determined that I would blow Emma’s fucking mind if I ever had her.
"Then there is an auction in which heroine attempts to sell her virginity for a good cause. hero finds out and goes ballistic. He bids on her without her knowledge, only for something to go wrong and he finds out that his bid was for another girl!"
All this is only 1/3 in. if I can stomach reading anymore, I will come back to update review...
UPDATE: Okay, so I finally finished it and after they have sex, nothing else pretty much happens. He tells heroine that this was his "first time too" but never explained to her how it could be when she knows for a fact that he fooled around with women! It was left open-ended and the way he f***k her was not someone who was a "virgin", so I call bullshit when I read it!!!
Would I recommend this to anyone? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

There just aren't enough books out there in which the hero is a virgin. It's such an underused trope and I'm so happy that this author took advantage of it. However... don't act like you didn't expect a but... I didn't like that despite the fact that he loved the h since they were kids, that he messed around with so many females and basically flaunted it in her face. Might as well have had sex bro. I really like friends-to-lovers romance, but maybe don't make the virgin hero who I would love to praise be an all-but-intercourse manwhore.

Awe.....You usually only read about the female losing her virginity, but in this one, we get to watch both parties shed the V card. And it's so sweet!
Evan is the boy who's lived next to Emma for over a decade. The first meet on the playground, soon becoming best friends. The bestest of friends. So much so that everyone else seems to know that they'll end up together, except them.
Once Evan finds out that Emma's sorority is auctioning off the one thing that sacred, he loses his mind. Especially when another sleazeball is out to win the bid on her. But it isn't until a mistake is made that true feelings are revealed. And once the fireworks start, there's no turning back.
This is how true male/female best friend relationships should be. At least in my eyes. Wait....my daughter has guy friends....Uh oh...

The Boy Next Door tells the story of two best friends who have always loved one another secretly. Their secret feelings are suddenly blown out of water when Evan catches on that Emma has decided to auction off her virginity to one lucky bidder in hopes of helping her sorority sister's brother who was badly burned in a fire.
Throughout the novel we get both sides of the story. Emma views Evan as a playboy manwhore who sticks his wick into far too many candles and Evan views Emma as the good girl who he measures all conquests up too. When Evan learns that Emma has decided to auction off her virginity, he'll do whatever it takes to talk her out of it, even if it means exposing his own secrets...or outbidding the highest bidder.
To be honest, I felt like this novel should have been a full length novel instead of a sexy short. I wanted more of a connection between Evan and Emma and for that connection to evolve it must first have the ability to grow. There was so much potential for these two to mend and break hearts. Don't get me wrong, I loved the premise of this novel and I loved the sexual tension that exploded in an array of fireworks. I just wanted more from the friendship vibe. Something felt like it was missing.

This is book two in a mini series by Carina Press. The series is called Sorority Secrets. They are quick short reads. Ideal for a quickie before bed time.
Oohhh I totally loved this story. Emma is auctioning off her virginity for a charitable cause close to her heart. Evan The Boy Next Door has been friends with Emma since they were kids. He has secretly loved her. Can he get Emma to change her mind about the auction?
A superb quick read. I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Can’t wait to read more of this series.

The Boy Next Door is my first Stevie J. Cole book and it probably won't be my last. The book started out with a bang and was fast paced from there on out, I especially loved the sweet ending. It was a hot and quick friends to lovers story with a little angst and miscommunication to make it interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed it! 3.5 out of 5 wine glasses.

I live for Stevie J Cole books and I was excited to dive into this one. With that being said, this was my least favorite book by her. I dont know if this being a novella had something to do with it but I felt blah while reading it. I liked it but there was nothing special about it. I can devour Stevie's books in one sitting but this one took me a while. It could also be this series cause I havent been loving these books and they're written by different authors. Sometimes you need a full length book in order to appreciate the story and the author's talent.

Ok, so far, I love this one the most!!!
Emma and Evan have been best friends since their time on the playground at 6 years old. I loved both of these characters.
Unfortunately, they have both been pining for each other all theses years, both scared of ruining a once in a lifetime friendship.
But when Emma donates her virginity to the sorority auction, all bets are off!!

Rcvd an ARC at no cost to author...(netgalley) This was another short book. Emma has been in love with the boy next door who is also her best friend Evan. Both of them have the hots for each other but none of them want to ruin their friendship. Emma is a virgin and now she is auctioning it off, she thinks that Evan is a manwhore because he has a reputation to match, only he is not one and he refuses to allow her to auction off her virginity especially knowing that their is this frat scum who is planning on winning her, but does he?

This is exactly as it is advertised: a short 'Dirty bits'-story and I quite liked it.
I love the 'friends-to-lovers'-trope and Emma and Evan have been friends since the sandbox days. Living next to each other they somehow never tried to cross the barrier even when they both have the hots for each other.
I was not really amused about the fact Emma tried to auction of her virginity (even when she was quite naive about it) as it seemed so out of character for her AND the other sorority girls. But it triggered Evan to taking action. It was hot, but not over the top erotic. Just right for a 'dirty bit' I guess.
Both Emma and Evan were likeable characters and I would have liked to have read more about them.

Evan doesn't understand what boundaries are, “I told you I had to pee, woman.” He lifts the toilet lid, and I turn away when he whips his ***k out." Evan is a possessive man, “he’s not effing touching you.” He forcibly grabs my chin between his fingers. “Because you are mine.” Evan knows how to treat his girl right, "just open your menu, woman, and let’s eat so I can take you home and eff you the way a gentleman should.” I loved this book, I really loved Evan.

This is a sweet but spicy novella that only took me a couple of hours to finish.
The synopsis gives you more than you need to know. The characters are likeable and sweet and romantic - that unrequited love - but there’s also a little steam.
The characters didn’t come to life as much as I usually find with books by this fantastic author, but I think that had more to do with the length of the book (being a novella) than the quality. It’s well written and edited but I could have delved a little deeper. I could easily have read more.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. If you’re looking to kill an hour or two, I highly recommend you give this a try.

This was a fun, quick, smexy best friends to lovers read that I devoured in no time flat.
What made this Dirty Bits a fun read was that I had no doubt that Evan and Emma were best friends. That their love for each other was soul deep and that their fear of ruining the connection they had by becoming more made them blind to the others attraction even when it was absolutely obvious to everyone around them that they belonged to each other.
The outside issue/nudge that gets them to finally take the plunge was a very believable one and I really liked how that issue was dealt with in the end.

I love friends to lovers stories, so I knew The Boy Next Door was going to be fun. And it was ...to a point. I loved Emma and Evan's relationship. I could understand the reluctance to admit their feelings for each other. The chemistry was off the charts. Despite being a novella, there was a cute epilogue. What I didn't care for was the virginity auction. I found it pretty callus and disturbing. I didn't like that scenario, so that made me take a point off.

Emma's character just didn't seem the type to auction off her virginity. But, when her sorority sisters call, she can't help but help the cause. She has always been in love with Evan, but as the years go on and she sees how many women he parades around, she knows that he's a man whore.
Evan can't help but follow Emma and keep her in his sight. When he realizes that she's auctioning off her virginity, something inside him breaks. Despite the fact that he is carrying around his own secrets, he can't let the guy who he knows will bid on Emma win.
This is more of a YA feel and even though they do finally seal their fantasy of coming together, it doesn't read as a virginal experience. Overall, this was a cute read, but felt way to YA.

Sometimes you just need something quick and ridiculous to entertain you between loads of laundry. This Sorority Secrets series is totally doing the trick!
So, the premise of these books is a little on the ridiculous side. A fire burns down an animal shelter where the sisters of Beta Kappa Nu volunteer, leaving the animals homeless and seriously injuring the firefighting brother of one of the sorority sisters. In order to help raise money for medical bills and the shelter, the girls auction off their virginity.
In The Boy Next Door, sorority sister Emma has been pining after her best friend, Evan, for ten years. But she’s never let him know how she truly feels because she doesn’t want to lose her best friend. Also, Evan’s the ultimate manwhore who couldn’t possibly want anything to do with her.
Except he does. And, he’s not as much of a playboy as everyone believes he is.
There’s not a whole lot of plot or character development in these books. But the writing is decent, and they are good fun to read. These books aren’t trying to be serious. They’re trying to be fun. And they nail it. I don’t even like the friends-to-lovers trope (WHY do you not want to be best friends with your lover? That makes NO SENSE to me at all!), but that was helped by the fact that at least here we didn’t have to read pages and pages and pages of the hero and heroine waxing eloquent about how they couldn’t risk ruining their friendship by becoming more. And this one managed to be steamy, but also sweet.
Here’s the thing. These books are exactly what they tell you they’re going to be. Quick and dirty. As long as these authors aren’t taking the stories too seriously, I’m fine with ridiculous. Who doesn’t need something to make a day with laundry more interesting?

Emma is the second sorority sister to take part in the auction for her v-card, to help the rescue shelter and her sorority sis' brother with his medical bills. She's quite naive, though, and doesn't realize it's an actual auction for her v-card, and isn't thrilled when she finds out from her best friend, Evan, exactly what she's agreed to.
Evan and Emma have been best friends their whole lives. He knows she thinks he's a big playboy, and he is, but only to a certain point. He's been in love with Emma as long as he's known her, and when he finds out about this ridiculous auction, he's determined to rescue her from it. No one is going to take his girl's v-card, not if he can help it. And boy does he help it...
The Boy Next Door, like its predecessor, is exactly what Carina advertises it as - the dirty bits. It's short, hot, and entertaining in a cute, NA kind of way. I preferred the first one, Bidding for Keeps, but I like this one, too. This series is pretty fun so far, can't wait to read the rest of the stories.

This was a tasty little morsel! I read it while waiting for sleep to come and instead of sleep… I read The Boy Next Door from start to finish. I really wasn’t sure if I’d really get into a short little story but Stevie Cole is such an amazing author that she can create an amazing story at any length. The thought of college girls auctioning off their virginity is surprising… I don’t know. It seems like an odd thought process. However, I loved the friends to lover’s storyline. I enjoyed the characters and their friendship. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite troupes so having this naughty little bedtime treat was magical!

The Boy Next Door is a super quick read with some erotic, dirty scenes. This new series called Sorority Secrets has a few girls who are a bit crazy! They are having an auction for a good cause, but what’s being auctioned off? I don't want to give it away, so you'd have to read it to fine out. I enjoyed the friends to lovers trope in the story. Each character is likeable.
Emma and Evan have been friends since they were swinging on swings and playing in sandboxes. They grew up next door to each other, and they have always been close. The only thing is... they both have been keeping how they felt about each other a secret. When Evan finds out what Emma is about to do, it has him steaming mad, and he comes in like a knight in shining armor. Emma is a bit naive in the story. I was very surprised she was going to go through with certain situations that were so out of character for her.
I read a lot of Stevie J. Cole. I enjoyed this story as well. It was different than what I’m used to, but it was a good change of pace.

This is the first story I've read by Stevie J. Cole and it was a really cute one. I read the first book in the Sorority Secrets series, so I knew a little bit about what to expect. Stevie's take on the virginity auction and her characters made this story hard to put down.
I'm a sucker for stories about friends that later end up as lovers, especially when both characters have been in denial for as long as Emma and Evan have been. And honestly, I don't know how the two of them put it off for so long. Their chemistry was undeniable and honestly, they were destined to be together.
Stevie is a great story teller and I love the bit of steam that she added to the mix. The writing was solid and kept my interest from start to finish. The whole idea behind this Sorority Secrets series is appealing and I love reading each author's take on the auction and cause. Short and sweet and certainly one I'd recommend.
