A prodigal homecoming…The Brides of Lost Creek continuesReturning to his Amish community after losing his job in the Englisch world, Aaron King isn’t sure if he wants to stay. Everything’s the same, including his childhood friend Sally Stoltzfus. With an uncertain future and a big secret, Aaron has changed. But the more time he spends training a horse with Sally, the more he believes this is exactly where he’s meant to be.
Marta Perry is a Pennsylvania-based author of over 35 novels, many of them inspirational romances. She uses her rural Pennsylvania life and her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage in writing her books, especially in her Pleasant Valley Amish series for Berkley Books and her new Amish-set suspense series for HQN Books.
Marta and her husband live in a centuries-old farmhouse in a quiet central Pennsylvania valley. They have three grown children and six beautiful grandchildren, and when she's not busy writing her next book, she's usually trying to keep up with her gardening, baking for church events, or visiting those beautiful grandkids.
This is the story of the third King brother, Aaron. I am enjoying this sweet series of renewed friendships that can lead to more. Aaron and Sally, young girl and now the schoolteacher, were friends when he left to go to the Englisch world as a horse trainer. Something happens to make Aaron leave and return to his family. Little Sally is all grown up and she has always had a crush on Aaron. But he is not sure he is back to stay. The bishop is a wise and patient man giving good advice to Aaron. What will he decide to do? Marta Perry creates lovely characters that you just want to have everything go well for and have a happy ending. Lovely addition to the series. I read this with Amazon Prime Reading.
I have been reading Marta Perry books for years, she has so many great ones, both Amish and Contemporary. I have not read any of her Suspense books yet but do need to remedy that. I was so excited to see she had another book in the Brides of Lost Creek series. I enjoy books where an Amish character is straddling the fence, deciding if they want to stay Amish or become an Englisher in their world. Aaron King was in the Englisher world but returns home to his Amish lifestyle after losing his job . Tormented by memories of a sweet little girl, Sally Stoltzfus he realizes when he returns she is now a beautiful grown woman and the school teacher. Aaron carries with a secret from the Englisher world from his time as a skilled horse trainer. The characters are flawed which makes them realistic. We find Sally is a sweet match for him and they work together to settle family misunderstandings, uncertainties, feelings of not belonging and unworthiness. Kindle Edition, 224 pages Published February 1st 2019 by Love Inspired I received a complimentary copy of this book. Thank you. All opinions expressed are my own.
Again I want you to know that Marta Perry is a dear friend, but that doesn't mean I can't write and honest review. An honestly this was another of Marta's lovely, sweet but realistic Amish stories. I say honest because unlike many "Amish" authors, she doesn't sugar-coat the Amish. Her Amish characters are not perfect. They are flawed people who are trying to live a life pleasing to the Ordnung. Aaron "jumped the fence." If you read Amish, you know what that means. :-) And now he has come home uncertain of his welcome. Right away he meets the little girl who long ago had a crush on him in school. But now she's Teacher Sally and a match for him in more ways than one. A story of family misunderstandings, pain and blessed reconciliation.
Aaron King has been out in the Englisch world for a long time. He was a skilled horse trainer and very good at what he did. Then suddenly things went wrong that he didn't have any control over. Not knowing where else to go he finds himself heading back to his roots and his Amish family at Lost Creek. What was he doing here ? Was this where he really wanted to be? Sally Stoltzfus teaches at the local Amish School in Lost Creek. She recently had planned to marry but a week before her wedding date she had changed her mind. Happy with teaching she is contented with her life the way it is now. Then Aaron King comes to her rescue when her high spirited horse gets spooked and rears up threatening to tip her buggy over. From that time on things are not the same for Sally. Marta Perry captures the hearts of her readers in The Promised Amish Bride. She has a way of drawing me quickly into her stories and keeping my attention throughout her books. I thought this was a very sweet story about a close Amish Family who welcomes their prodigal family member back home. There's sparks of romance added when Sally and Aaron become attracted to each other. Readers who enjoy a good clean Romance , Christian fiction or fans of Marta Perry will enjoy this book. The Promised Amish Bride is the third book of Brides of Lost Creek series. I highly recommend it to all my Goodreads Friends. I won an Arc copy of this book in a giveaway given by the author. I was not asked to do a positive review. I've given an honest review on my opinion of the book.
Looking for a quick clean romance read? Then this the book for you. A sweet romance and change of heart towards the Lord. I appreciate how the characters struggle with life and their faith. It is pretty relatable, just doesn’t normally happen that fast I don’t think. Only took me the afternoon to read but enjoyed it.
The Promised Amish Bride by Marta Perry is the third installment in Brides of Lost Creek series. Aaron King is returning home to Lost Creek, Pennsylvania where his family has a dairy farm. He feels like the prodigal son, but he is not sure if her will be sticking around. Aaron had been working for Mr. Winfield training race horses, but an incident caused him to leave without explanation. Aaron encounters his childhood friend, Sally Stoltzfus on the way home. She is having trouble with her new buggy horse, Star and Aaron helps calm the animal down for her. Sally had a crush on Aaron when she was a teenager and the old spark returns when she encounters him. Sally gets Aaron to agree to train her horse and she helps him with the process. It gives her a chance to get to know Aaron again and find out what is bothering him. While Sally’s parents are out of town, her brother and sister-in-law are staying with her. Elizabeth, Sally’s sister-in-law, is an observant person (always watching out the window) and has no bones about speaking her mind. Sally wonders if there is some reason behind her sister-in-law’s caustic tongue. Aaron settles into life on the farm and appreciates the guidance of his Uncle Zeb. He feels conflicted and unsure of his place in life. The more time Sally spends with Aaron, the more she is sure that Aaron belongs with his family and the Amish community. It is up to God, though, to open Aaron’s heart and let him hear the truth.
I thought The Promised Amish Bride was a heartwarming story. The Promised Amish Bride is a well-written and engaging story. I like Marta Perry’s writing style. She has a way of drawing the reader into her tale and keeping their attention. The Promised Amish Bride has friendly and realistic characters who are experiencing everyday problems. Sally and Aaron feel an immediate attraction to each other, but they each resist for different reasons. Aaron is unsure if he will remain in Lost Creek and Sally does not want her heart to be broken when Aaron ultimately leaves town. The romance is inspiring and clean (only kissing). There are good life lessons included in The Promised Amish Bride. We can see how pride can get in the way of happiness and running away only puts off the inevitable. Forgiveness of oneself and others as well as prayer and listening to God are emphasized in the story. Aaron must do some soul searching if he is to discern the path God wishes him to follow. While The Promised Amish Bride can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the Brides of Lost Creek series in order. The Promised Amish Bride is a sweet, Amish romance novel that will gladden your heart.
Happy sigh. I do so love Marta Perry's books and this series in particular. The King brothers are reunited at last in this prodigal son story and I loved the sibling dynamics as they find their way towards becoming a family again. No worries if you haven't read the first two books in this series -- The Promised Amish Bride reads well as a standalone -- but if you are familiar with Caleb and Daniel it's just plain fun to revisit with them and their lady loves. Not to mention Onkel Zeb and the kinder!
It's all a bit overwhelming for Aaron who isn't quite sure what his return to Lost Creek really means. Is he back for a visit or something more permanent? He's guarded and wary, accepting the overtures of the community with a caution born of distrust. Except for Sally -- her open-hearted kindness and gentle acceptance breaks through all his barriers and leaves him more confused then ever. Their rekindled friendship soon heats up and then things really get complicated.
A moving story of reconciliation and second chances.
This was a sweet continuation from the Amish Wedding Quilt Bride. I read both of them back to back and I loved how the story continued with different characters.
The Promised Amish Bride by Marta Perry A prodigal homecoming… The Brides of Lost Creek continues Returning to his Amish community after losing his job in the Englisch world, Aaron King isn’t sure if he wants to stay. Everything’s the same, including his childhood friend Sally Stoltzfus. With an uncertain future and a big secret, Aaron has changed. But the more time he spends training a horse with Sally, the more he believes this is exactly where he’s meant to be. This is Sally Stoltzfus and Aaron King's story. A horse reared between the shafts of a buggy, heedless of the efforts of the Amish woman struggling with the lines. Dropping his backpack to the ground, Aaron raced forward. If the horse bolted— When he reached the animal’s head, it was making a determined effort to kick the buggy to pieces, but at least it hadn’t run. Sucking in a breath, he lunged, dangerously near the flailing hooves. He caught the leather strap of the headpiece and held on tight, all the while talking in the low, steady voice that could calm the most jittery beast. “Get away from him before you’re hurt. I don’t want help.” The woman spoke in English, not dialect. She thought him an Englischer, and why not? That’s what he was now. One more bend in the road, and he’d be able to see the family farm. The realization was like a rock in his stomach. What was he doing? Did he really want to accept the role of the prodigal, returning to the Amish fold in Lost Creek after failing in the Englisch world? That was what they’d think, surely—his two brothers and his uncle. They’d assume he’d messed up, and they’d also assume he’d come back to stay. They’d be right on the first count—he had to admit it. The memory of the scene that had destroyed his job and the tenuous place he’d made for himself still scalded. I highly recommend reading. "I won a complimentary copy of this book from Marta Perry and was under no obligation to post a review." The Promised Amish Bride by Marta Perry is a wonderful well written 5 star book. A friend sent me this book after she'd read it. I was recently complaining that so many of the Amish fiction books seem similar. This one was different.
Instead of it being Amish youth in their running around period, it seems the two main characters from this book are a bit older. It wasn't clear to me if Aaron had joined the church, then left the community--I guess he must have since he feels he has to confess and ask to rejoin them when he returns. Sally has settled into teaching. I didn't quite understand why her brother and sister-in-law felt they had to move in with her while Sally's parents were gone. Sally seems old enough to be on her own (even if that is not the norm for a single woman of her age in that community), especially if it was only to be temporary (which remains to be seen).
Unlike some Love Inspired books, in this case, the two main characters had known each other while growing up. I'm not quite sure how many years Aaron was away, but at least the short time span of this book is somewhat mitigated by the previous relationship.
The Promised Amish Bride is the third fantastic book written by Marta Perry in her Brides of Lost Creek series. This story continues the previous stories and adds a few new characters. This story centers around Aaron King and Sally Stoltzfus. This is another enduring story of forgiveness. I enjoyed catching up with the previous characters but these two new characters are amazing. They tell the story fantastically.
I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this story with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others who enjoy the Amish genre.
Congratulations to Marta Perry for writing another inspiring story for her readers to enjoy.
A soul-searching story filled with uncertainties, misunderstandings, and feelings of unworthiness. I loved the characters but at times I wanted to shake Aaron, found myself wanting to be more like Sally, and wishing for Uncle Zeb’s wisdom! A hallmark of the Amish is their ability to forgive but Aaron just doesn’t understand how his family and friends can forgive what he’s done while out in the Englisch world. He comes home as the ‘prodigal son’ with a chip on his shoulder. Will Sally be able to break through the barrier? Will Aaron discover the forgiveness he craves and find his way home? An inspirational story of hope and God’s forgiveness. You’ll want this in your TBR pile! I was given a copy of this book. The opinions are my own.
I love reading the Amish inspired stories. My family lived near Lancaster Pennsylvania about 35 years ago and we often travel to Lancaster were there is a large population of Amish. Loved Aaron's story about returning to his home in Lost Creek after living in the English world. He realized everything he needed was in Lost Creek Including the woman he loved. Would like to know what happened with Elizabeth after she saw the doctor and did Sally's parents return to Lost Creek.
An Interesting story of the prodigal's return. Arron had a dfficult time coming back to his Amish family. Feeling the need to be accepted, it was little Sally, the little girl who used to walk to school with his friends and family who seemed to be the one person who saw him for who he had become. Family and community dynamics being what they are, he overcame hurdles real and imagined to find his way home in Lost Creek.
This is the 2nd book I read by Marta Perry. I liked this book's storyline. I liked the Christian theme in this story. I liked Sally's character. I liked Aaron's character. I liked the family 👪 scenes. I liked the ending.
I've read 3 books in 3 days from this series! If you like books with the Amish way of life and the compassion and the faith they live by, you will absolutely love this series! I can't say more, I'm off to start book 4 of the series!
