Maude Jones was a foundling, an orphan left on the steps of the Howard House. Her whole life she’s longed for a family of her own. Now all grown up she’s willing to sacrifice her dream of a family with the only boy she ever loved for the love of her friend, Betsy Sewell. When an investor demands that the mine be reopened, Maude sends an ad to the Grooms Gazette for an Engineer to reopen the mine. Knowing that love and her dreams may never come true. That is until an unexpected letter comes from that boy from her past. Now she must choose family or her friend’s need.
Jeremiah Henderson left Silverpines at eight years old when his father took a job in New Mexico Territory. Now fourteen years later he hears of the disaster that has befallen his hometown and he has to know what happened to the little girl he left behind. The only girl he’s ever loved. When Maude responds telling him she is alive and single, Jeremiah knows he must return to woo Maude. If he can help his other friends reopen their mine, so much the better. But when he arrives in town with a western legend at his side, only to find a mining engineer after both his woman and the mine, he has to choose: step aside or fight for what he wants. He’s a miner, he doesn’t know how to quit. But will he win the woman, save the mine and give Maude everything she ever wanted, or die trying?
Will love win, or will Maude settle for what she Wanted: an Engineer?
George McVey always wanted to be a Superhero, sadly no radioactive storms or animals have been a part of his life. One day while spinning a tall tale for his family, some suggested once again that with all his experiences in ministry and his imagination, he should be writing books. This time it was like lightning struck him and he decided why not?
Since then George has been hard at work using his creative imagination and writing several books. He's still adding to his bibliography to this day. You can find them all on his Amazon.com page.
George lives in the wonderful state of Almost Heaven, West Virginia. A few years ago he moved from a single family home to a deluxe apartment in the sky, well the fourth floor anyway. He lives with his wife of thirty years, and a service dog named Daisy Mae. He is visited often by his three children and two grandsons.
Oh what a wonderful book in the Silverpines Series .George McVey is an extraordinary storyteller.I love this series because you can just dive into each book because we already know all the characters except a few new ones and it feels like you are reading about family. With a few new family members in each new book.I can't wait for each new book in this series as they are all great but this one was exceptional.
Orphan Maude grew up best friends with Jeremiah. When his family suddenly has to move away, they promise to marry when they're grown up. Years later, the Silverpines disaster strikes. Jeremiah knows he needs to go back and find out what happened to his childhood sweetheart. He always meant to go back and marry her; here's he chance. Meanwhile, evil men claim to be working for a new investor in the mine, with plans to reopen the mine asap. Can Jeremiah and Maude pick up where they left off? What's going on with the mine? Can they reopen it and bring jobs back to Silverpines? I liked the idea of this story but not some of the details. Nate Ryder comes with Jeremiah and so there's the whole "calling" bit and a weird bond Jeremiah and Maude have where he can "see" where is always is....Also, they almost anticipate their voews - not a fan of that even though it worked out fine. I don't really like this author's style, personally.
Silverpines need a miller, Tonya needs someone who can handle her mill and a husband, Braylon, son of a miller, needs and a place to use his knowledge and a wife. So they are perfect for each other....so it seems. But are his plans good for them both and Silverpines’s people or are other priorities needed? Can their instant love for each grow and flourish? This is such a fun series with not only very lovable leading characters but you will love the others too. I really recommend all the books in this amazing series.
An amazing story loved the plot of men trying to take over the mine thinking the women would sit back and except it. But Betsy had other ideas and wrote to Ryder. Jeremiah returning to his home town to help them reopen the mine and wants to court Maud his long ago childhood friend was perfect I love the older women's characters and the way they protect their own. Wonderful characters made a wonderful story as always George delivered 5 stars I encourage you all to read it for yourself.
Maude a young lady who grew up as an orphan with two sisters as her chaperones as well as several other young women who were orphaned as well. Jeremiah Henderson was her friend who moved with his family to New Mexico years earlier came back when she placed and ad for an engineer to help open up the collapsed mine. This suspense filled book was a joy to read, and discover the new things taking place in Silversprings. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Another George McVey book that is amazing. The story is great, characters relatable and realistic, the location terrific. As you read this book you see it in your mind. The way Mr. McVey writes, he brings emotion to the characters that is just...I don't even know the words. Fantastic.
I loved the gift that was given to Miss Edith. As a mountain girl, I appreciate the ending.
Thank you for another fantastic read in this awesome series.
I love this story of Jeremiah and Maude. Of how they had loved each other since they were children. Then Jeremiah's family moved away from Silver Pines. Years later would be heard about the town's disaster he returned to his true love and the town he wanted to help. I love how Jeremih and mod were connected, two hearts beating as one, knowing where one another was so that Jeremiah could rescue Maude.
George McVey is a master story teller. How fitting that the take of the rebirth of the mine and Jeremiah and Maude's long overdue reunion be his take to weave. It was sad to see the demise of Nate Ryder part of the story, but one can only hope that there will be more takes of his adventures between Silverpines and his death.
I found this book to be exception in the way George H. McVey developed the plot surrounding the reopening of the mine. Wonderful story of Maude and Jeremiah, childhood sweetheart, separated for 14 years find each again. Epilogue brought tears to my eyes! Well done!
This is the 11th book in the Silverpines series. The heroine is Maude, who is one of the orphans raised by the widow twins. The hero is Jeremiah who grew up in Silverpines ,but moved when he and Maude were young. Jeremiah promised to return and marry her once he made one hundred dollars. This is a wonderful addition to the series!
I liked the concept of the book it is keeping with the rest of the series, it has good strong characters and a very good plot I enjoyed reading it and look forward to more in the series
Pastor George McVey weaves magic into every one of his stories! This one is no different! It is a wonderful story from beginning to end. But have the tissues handy for the Epilogue. In true McVey fashion, this one will leave you crying in the end.
What an incredibly wonderful tale. Spiritual, endearing, suspensful and heart warming. Thank you George for sharing your stories.. You are a master of creative storying telling.
Provides some important information about the damage to the mine due to the two earthquakes. Maude’s story is just as enjoyable as most of the other stories, and this one contains an epilogue that the story feel more complete.
What a wonderful reunion! Nathan Ryder is a secondary character in this one, but he's a hero in many of George's books! It's perfect that Maude finally gets her greatest desires!
What a wonderful storyline. I have enjoyed all the characters new and old. My heart saw saddened at the ending of the book at the loss of a dear character.
I love it when the Ryders are brought into these stories! This time it was the Preacher grandson of Nugget Nate. So glad the calling for spouses was in the 19th century where three were no phones!
Very nice story of a love reunited. Maude and Jeremiah had loved each other since they were six. Now, as adults, Jeremiah is back in Silverpines and happy to find that Maude has waited for him.
This is a great series by several great authors but I have to say this is the best book yet. George McVey had me saying just wow as I finished this book.
