Wolf Legacy #1-4

Wolf Legacy Quartet

Rate this book
Werewolf. Baker. Protector of the weak.

Ember's large werewolf family has always kept her focused on what really matters --- feeding loved ones their favorite desserts. But when a missing half-brother draws the twenty-something away from home for the very first time, bonds to her family are tested at every turn.

The milk-chocolate eyes of an off-limits human are the first threat to her pack commitment. Mix in arrogant alphas plus unexpected betrayals and the final product isn't particularly sweet.

Will Ember be able to bake her way to safety before her family collapses like a tray of over-beaten cupcakes all around her? And will she change so much in the process that she's never able to go home again?

This box set includes four novels (Huntress Born, Huntress Bound, Rogue Huntress, Huntress Unleashed), two short stories (First Blood, Macaroni Dreams), and one scrumptious recipe. Don't miss the "emotional and psychological roller coaster" of this complete urban fantasy series.

Aimee Easterling reliably delivers fun shifter stories with exciting plots. The Wolf Legacy Quartet is a spinoff of the Wolf Rampant Trilogy: A Fantastical Werewolf Adventure, but it can definitely be enjoyed alone.

As I have come to expect from Ms. Easterling, she has created interesting, likeable characters who are smart and funny and make mistakes, and I loved getting to know these characters and watching them learn and grow. I found Ember a charming heroine. I loved how she tried to solve so many of her problems with baked goods and was always guessing at what someone's favorite dessert would be. She's very devoted to family, and in this quartet, we get to see that devotion tested in several ways. Throughout the course of the quartet, Ember makes a lot of mistakes, but she learns from them, and she has a very satisfying character arc.

I liked Sebastien too, although we never really get to know him quite as well as I wanted to--he remains somewhat mysterious, and that has its own allure. While I didn't feel that other characters were developed as much as I would have preferred in the first book, later books in the quartet did a very nice job with character development.

Each volume of this quartet was a relatively quick read that effortlessly captured and held my interest. The pacing was good and the plots were exciting with some unexpected and very emotional twists. However, while I really enjoyed these books, they weren't always easy to read. There are a couple of scenes in the first book featuring sexual assault, and while the text is never too graphic, it could be triggering for some readers. Subsequent books have varying levels of cruelty, violence, and death, and again, while the text is generally not too graphic, some scenes could be triggering for some readers.

If you like urban fantasy with hints of paranormal romance and you don't mind a bit of cruelty and violence, I heartily recommend this quartet.

I volunteered to review advanced reader copies of the individual books in this quartet, so I cannot comment on the final editing and formatting of this set. The ARCs I read were neatly formatted, had no significant editing problems, and had very few typos that I can recall.

In this series you will find a series of dastardly schemes to keep family apart, but young Ember is a determined girl that has been raised in the knowledge that family is everything, so you are in for an adventurous and sometimes suspenseful time. Embers soft heart will have you falling in love with her as you read through this box set.
I also listened to this series in audio via Authors Direct and I can't tell you how the story just came to life and the narrator has the sweetest perfect voice. I totally recommend this way to listen.

I read each of these books as an advanced reader. My reviews were voluntary.

Huntress Born – 5 stars

I loved this book all the way up to the cliffhanger ending. Bad author. Lol.

Ember leaves her pack family and goes in search of her half-brother. Things start to go wrong the moment she gets off the bus. She is in the territory of another pack and will need to make nice with the Alpha. There is a werewolf hanging around the bus station acting strange. Then there is the interesting Uber driver. Her job at the nearby college involves her favorite pastime - baking. At least she has that as she tries to juggle a new-found family, avoid the local Alpha's son, fight her attraction to the Uber-driver professor, dodge her father's well-meaning phone calls, and oh yeah, figure out what happened to her brother. All of this when she just wants to slink back home and wallow in her pack's love and acceptance.

Huntress Bound– 5 stars

I was glad this book was ready so soon after the first one in the series. This one takes off right where the last one left off and the action never stops. Ember is still trying to get a mate bond established with Sebastian, a human professor that doesn't even know that wolf shifters exist. Things get worse when people show up to search Sebastian's house because she used his computer to read the thumb drive her brother left for her. Next thing she knows her "cousin,“ who she hasn't seen in years, shows up and demands she go with him. When more “officials" show up and take Sebastian away things really heat up.

I was a little turned off by some of the killing that occurred since innocents were involved. The story is still not over and now I have to wait months to find out happens next. Drats.

Rogue Huntress – 5 stars

Ember is still on the run from various factions and this time she not only has her almost-mate Sebastian, but the rest of her former packmates along for the ride. She can't seem to shake all the bad guys on her tail and she is having a hard time finding her brother. No communication devices seem to be safe for long and neither, it seems, are her loved ones.

There is a lot of excitement in this book. Ember will find and lose new family and former packmates will be in great danger. There is betrayal on two sides of one relationship that will surprise you. Through it all Sebastian is right by her side, but will he remain there once he understands what being her mate will mean?

Huntress Unleashed – 5 stars

While I enjoyed this fourth book in the Wolf Legacy series, I spent a lot of time wanting to smack Ember into reality. I sometimes couldn't decide who I disliked most, her or Dakota.

The book begins pretty much where the last one left off, and I would advise you read these in order. There is a drug problem growing among the wolf packs and the drug makes the wolves act in unusual ways. Ember is tasked with infiltrating Dakota's pack and trying to get out samples so that her almost-mate, Sebastien, can analyze them and try to find a way to negate the drug. She is also trying to find out what the end game is for all this drug dependency. Her father, Wolfie, gets her into the pack by asking Dakota to whip her into shape, thanks, Dad, but she is having a hard time getting into a position where she can actually learn something. Until she does.

Dakota basically has her kidnapped, feeds her drugs, and sics her on Sebastien's lab assistant. Then she is left to find her own way home and told to report back ready to take the drug on a daily basis and put in due diligence for the pack. Ember decides that this is the only way to redeem herself for the attack and to find out what exactly is going on.

I won't tell you any more of the story. I will let you decide whether you want to smack Ember for yourself. I did like the ending.

Werewolves, Cupcakes, And Lots of Action!

In this box set you get to follow cupcake baking werewolf Ember as she ventures away from pack and family on a quest to find and save her brother. Along the way she finds new family, reconnects with old friends and family, breaks the rules, and fights for all werewolves. It's packed with action and emotion and each story will have you glued to the pages to see what happens. Here's my reviews for each book.

Huntress Born: Huntress Born is a great start to a new shifter series. The story is centered around Ember, a young wolf making her first trip away from home and she's on a mission to find her missing brother that she's never met. While Ember struggles with being away from her pack, she also finds friends in this new city. All is not what it seems and her adventure finds her facing troubles that she must overcome. The characters are very well written with many levels and differing personalities. Discoveries are made near the end and I can't wait to find out what happens to Ember and Sebastian in the next book!

Huntress Bound: This books picks up where the first one ended with Ember seeking refuge with Sebastian. Ember finds herself packless and with a mate who doesn't know he's a mate and no closer to finding her brother. The one clue she does have just opens the door to even more problems. This story is packed full of emotion, drama and action. Ember struggles with who to trust, how much to tell Sebastian, how far she is willing to go to achieve her goals, and her own wolf. Adding complications to the story are secret government agents who kidnap Sebastian and her cousin as well as other werewolf enforcers out to stop her. The story will grab you from the beginning and take you along on Ember's journey.

Rogue Huntress: The story continues with Ember and Sebastian traveling to what they believe will be safety, but they just can't catch a break. This third book is packed full of action with quite a few emotional situations thrown in. Sebastian still wants answers that Ember is afraid to give him. It seems that Ember has more tough decisions ahead of her and just when she thinks all is lost, her family comes to the rescue, and needs to be rescued too! Lots of twists and turns and a very surprising discovery is made in this book that brings about a major plot twist that you won't see coming. In the end, Ember, Sebastian, and her family (plus some surprise additions) survive another trial and live to fight another day. The end sets up the next book is another thing you won't see coming!

Huntress Unleashed: I just loved this book! It had so many twists and turns and surprises along the way. I never knew what would happen next! Ember is faced with so many decisions and struggles as they series comes to its conclusion. The emotional and moral journey she takes will have you glued to the pages to see what happens. And once again you get to see Sebastian and Ember's family standing by her side offering support and guidance. So sad to the series end, but I absolutely loved the whole journey this series took me on.

The „Wolf Legacy Quartet“ compilation by Aimee Easterling includes all four book in the series and some extra gems: three short stories (First Blood, Sebastian Favorite Cookies and Macaroni Dreams) that are delightful and help even more to showcase the character of our most unconventional Alpha, FMC Ember, cupcake creator extraordinaire, but please don’t let the sweets blind you to Ember’s strength and resilience.

With the already superior writing and very special attention to detail already trademark of Aimee Easterling works, this series is possible the most fun in the vast repertoire of the veritable Alpha writer. Ember is without doubt the most unconventional werewolf you have ever encounter, you have to like her, even against all odds, she is just this kind of girl. While she will start her journey as an über-naïve girl, her inner strength allows her to adapt and growth with new obstacle in her path.

Quick advise though… this series can have some side effects…. sugar rush and cupcakes cravings are known to occur 😊

Herewith a short summary of each of the main books, I wouldn’t dream to give you any clues on the short stories at the risk ruin ever the slightly surprise in any of them… enjoy 😉

Huntress Born (Wolf Legacy #1)
Following the disappearance of her half-brother Ember leaves the pack for the very first time and relocates to another’s pack territory. Once there Ember natural naïveté will be tested in a daily basis: a very desirable off-limits human, a very the reaction to her treats (she loves to bake), the plans of this territory alpha to wed her to her son in just a week’s time, the violent attacks on shifters, etc. Although Terra feels slightly in deep waters, her effervescent personality makes the story a funny and entertaining one, despite the violent content.

Huntress Bound (Wolf Legacy #2)
Seamlessly following the events related in the previous book, Ember finds herself mated to human professor studying Alpha dominance, not exactly strictly in-sync with pack policies. As the government takes some interest in the research and kidnaps her mate, Ember will mobilize all her resources to get him back.

Rogue Huntress (Wolf Legacy #3)
Family reunions can be stressing, in Ember’s case that is just the understatement of the century. In search for a missing family member, fighting the government and trying to figure out her romantic relationship with Sebastian, Ember has some very difficult decisions to take. The story is a veritable rollercoaster, with some bumps thrown in the way for good measure.

Huntress Unleashed (Wolf Legacy #4)
Ember is caught into an almost impossible to solve predicament, while in a mission to dismantle the drug ring that keeps shifters in shackles, she runs the risk to betray the very ones, she is trying to save. After a hard choice (Ember finally realizes that sweetness is not the solution to all problems), she will prevail, but not without some hard loses on the way.

I adore Ember, the Star of Aimee Easterling’s Wolf Legacy Quartet. Notwithstanding that she’s a shifter and comes from a large werewolf family, she’s truly genuine in how she’s presented and how she relates to family, to friends, and to everyone else (and everything else too (including a certain human) . She is fun, snarky, and brave - and she bakes! The perfect heroine for the four books in this quartet, the superbly written stories oh which build on each other even though each tale is fine as standalone. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

Audiobook: I was very entertained by this box set which described in detail the twists and turns of Ember's life in her search to find her half-brother. I thought the story was well written, and it captured my interest from the opening paragraphs of the first book until the end of the last one. I liked the characters and appreciated the family bonding between Ember and her parents. I enjoyed the occasional moments of humor. I thought Mapuana Makia's narration was great, and her performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a copy of the audiobook through Spotify. I volunteered, without financial gain, to post this review which reflected my honest opinions regarding this audiobook.

Ember is a young, un-mated female werewolf, in a strange city in search of a missing brother whom she's never met but has interacted with by video chat. The theme of the four books is protecting the secret of the existence of shifters from ordinary humans.
I found some of the dialog and action hard to follow. I felt that there were too many unnecessary deaths. The fourth book was unreadable to me, and I skipped most of it.
I read the previous series about Ember's parents, and also the first book of this series, but it was so long ago that I do not remember them.
Typos I noticed: "Tact" for "tack," "loathe" (verb) for "loath" (adverb--an all-too-frequent mix-up), and missing comma ("I ordered the words shrieking...."

Whirlwind Romance and Rollercoaster Ride of Adventure

Ember is on her own and growing into her wolf and her complicated wolf bond with a human. Throw in a strange drug that causes werewolves to lose their empathy and a psychotic Tribunal werewolf. Ember is also a wonderful baker who bribes her way along with sweet treats. This is a great action packed read I couldn’t put the series down and was so sad to finish it.

I Loved Wolf Legacy Quartet by Amiee Easterling! It takes werewolf novels to a whole new level. While humorous, this book brings all the intrigue, mystery and danger that you will ever need. The story-line is fast-paced and well-written. The characters are well developed and engaging. A little more chemistry and dialogue between Sebastein and Ember would have been good, but overall, one great, must-read series!

If you like stories about shifters, you'll enjoy this collection. The characters are well written as the story features Ember's adventures as an adult. While she's making cupcakes, she's also working on her mission. The plot is interesting and moves along at a fast pace with enough suspense to keep you listening. I've really enjoy this series. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author and found it very enjoyable.

Love the wolf shifters

This a long romance but well worth the time to read. Each book within is a continuation of the story of a young female worth and the half brother she tries to find and save. It is also about the human professor, she loves. Read and enjoy.

Addictive.

I couldn't stop reading! Finally, a werewolf romance where the women are strong shifters in their own right amd don't need rescuing! Hints of Kelley Armstrong and Patricia Briggs

This *should* have been in my wheelhouse. Baking, romantic comedy, and werewolves. But I found myself more interested in the side characters (Wolfie and Terra), and didn’t buy the relationship of the main romantic leads. I also found it annoying that her “inner wolf” would be able to override her at plot-convenient points. I read through the first two books, and gave up part-way through the third when I realized I didn’t really care where the storyline was going any longer.
