In case you missed the point...EDIT...
Not quite sure what happened with this one. It didn't quite come across as English being a second language, but there were so many words and phrases that were either wrong or used wrong. Then there were the spelling mistakes, even the lead names spelt wrong. And there were bits that had words missing from the sentences, and even parts that might have been either cut & paste errors or rephrasing errors... like when you right a sentence, and then go back and change a little bit... without checking to make sure the rest of the sentence still flows with that change. It was all really annoying and had me grinding my teeth for an edit.
Sadly(?), I have run across similar books/authors who are in desperate need of editors, but the story/s were to make me wish they had edited, but enjoy the story anyway. This one was not one of those.
The story was flat and had huge holes. There were skips and potholes everywhere. And then there's the fact that everything was just 'there' without the writing around... if that makes any sense?!? Like there was so very few scenes that had other people in them, and at best, it was always below minimum requirement. There were 'dramatic' bits that were 'hey, here's the dramatic bit... why are you still looking for it... It was done three sentences ago already... catch up... we've already moved on!' The psycho grammy who was a significant part of the problem, but got a scene and a bit. The MOTHER... who's story was never actually told - a few references at the start with no detail, which made me think her story would be explained later... but later, there was a few comments, but never an actual convo about it. The lawsuit that was barely there and ignored the rest of the time. I'm not saying any of those things (and others) should have taken over the story, but they were obviously just thrown in there for 'wow factor' without any effort put into them.
Anyway, I could keep going, but enough already. I didn't like it.

Don't waste your time or money
There was absolutely no character development. They live in a small town, where? There are so !any inconsistencies, unfinished sentences and errors. Henley Maverick needs a good editor, or at the very least friends who will tell her the truth and not give 5 star reviews just because they think they should.

Multiple grammatical errors, typing errors...
... made more obvious by really bad editing and mistakes in syntax kept me from being able to read past the third chapter. The premise of the story, as I understood it, had potential but the cringe inducing pain I suffered from the nonexistent proofreading killed all desire to read the story.

Need Some Legal Help
A BABY FOR THE OFFICER certainly fits in with the category of "young, naive girl meets older, gorgeous hunk who is desperate for her," this novel was so inaccurate it was almost silly.
Lyla moves to a small town to start a new job, only to find that her employer-to-be changed his mind. With no warning and a dwindling cash supply, she's desperate. Then she hears about Clay, the sheriff who needs a nanny. Bingo! The two meet. He's a hunk, and she's perfect for the job.
Besides the fact that this is an overused plot, the novel has some major flaws.
Problem #1 -- Clay's relationship to the baby was never clearly defined.
Problem #2 -- When the court told Clay that he had to take the baby, the court would have first declared the baby abandoned; and second, made him her legal guardian.
Problem #3 -- In some states, grandparents have limited rights. In other states, grandparents have no rights. So, in spite of their wealth, it's doubtful the parents of the mother could threaten to take the baby away.

While this book wasn't terribly written, it could definitely benefit from research.
1. Somehow the mother's wishes were enough to override Clay's wishes of not becoming the infant's guardian, but those same wishes didn't apply when the grandparents wanted custody. I do not think there is any court within the US that would give a child to anyone who says they don't feel fit enough to raise a child.
2. Lyla somehow was able to work at summer schools from the time she was 15. I'd like to know what role she had. In my state you have to have a certain amount of college credit hours to even substitute teach. Also the principal stated they sometimes "have to train the teachers from scratch" as if they don't go through years of college training.
3. I'm almost positive Lyla would have had a signed contract with the school by the time she got there. Admittedly this isn't my area of expertise but it Ned's to be put out there.
4. Custody would not be decided by a jury. Certain matters require a bench trial. I wasn't sure about this so I looked on Google and found that divorce and custody would not get a trial by jury.
I honestly finished the book out of curiosity and it didn't take long to read.

A great read!
Lyla is left reeling after packing up and moving to a new town for a job she finds is no longer hers when she arrives. Not sure what to do now, she overhears a conversation about the local sheriff needing a nanny so she strolls over and offers him her services. She is attracted to him on sight but she knows she has to be professional about this job and needs to take it seriously but when the flirting takes an interesting turn she winds up with more than she bargained for.
Clay is dealing with fact that he now has custody of a newborn baby girl with no idea what to do with her. After firing a myriad of useless nannies, he is desperate to find someone who fits so he can do right by the baby but also fulfil his duties as town sheriff. When an attractive young woman walks into the station and offers herself as a nanny he can’t help but feel attracted to her but she is the best thing that could have happened to him.
This story was intriguing as well as hot to boot. I would love to read book 2 in the series.

This book showed passion on all sides. I had to know what was going to happen next. Clay is an officer who's life gets off balance when he finds out that he is a guardian to a baby girl. Annabelle came into his life do to his parents, who where helping her out. He never expect her to leave her baby with him. Lyla is looking for a job and received one in Rockford, but when she gets there finds out that they gave it to some one else. She over hears a conversation and goes for the nanny position. They both are feeling something for each other and try to put it off. Then Emily's grandmother comes into the picture wanting Emily back. What will happen with their feelings for each other? Will the grandmother get custody of Emily? What will Clay do if he loses Emily who he loves as his own? I will say I was lost on the last page of the story, but hopefully the next book will explain. I received a free copy for my honest review.

I started to read this book and thought it was going to be pretty good. I gave it a 3 star because, even I know it’s fictional BUT please don’t be too unrealistic in your writing. Ok baby Emily is almost 5months and all she eats is a bottle.. ok I can go with that but only 3 per day then she’s 6 months and eating the same and sleeping all the time. First off 5&6 month olds need more than 3 bottles/24 hours. At 6 months they need food. I know I’m being silly with this it it’s throughout the whole story. Then at the end Emily who is 18months older than her brother are in the same kindergarten class. Lyla stated she has preschool and Pre k classes and her kids are in it but states Eaton is on K with his sister. But in all honestly the book was good if you can get past the pet peeves I have with it.

A wonderful sweet, heartwarming standalone romance that has some twists that really warms your heart. The characters are likeable and engaging. Clay a single man who is the Sherriff of a small town has been given custody of a infant girl. Lyla new in town becomes his nanny. The chemistry and connection is hot and they try to avoid acting on it, but when the maternal grandmother shows up threatening custody all bets are off. I enjoyed this story and how they gave a united front in fighting for custody while your on the edge of your seat to see how it will play out. I look forward to more. The phone call on the last page left me confused I assume its a draw to next in the series, not needed. I will definetly be looking for more from this author. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.

So the story has a really good base however there were several times I felt the story was missing some key information. Like what happened to the young girl who left sheriff Clay her daughter and there were several times in the the story that information could have been given to the reader. Several times in the story the author wrote the wrong name for the baby( I will be emailing the author about that).
Also the age difference could have been handled a lot differently in the story as well.
But overall it was a very good read, it was a quick easy read.

3.5 stars. I liked this book. It had a good premise for the story and I really enjoyed watching them fall in love. The age difference wasn’t really an issue for me. There was a lot of background info packed in there and I would of really liked to have seen it be developed more making it a full length novel. Maybe that’s just me being greedy 😁. I think that’s the only reason for it not being 4 star as I felt it was just touching a wonderfully intricate story line but not quite.
The ending was definitely the best, the pure love and adoration between them with their expanding family was beautiful. I will certainly be looking at reading more in this series.

Clay is appointed Emily's guardian but he's afraid he's not cut out to be father material. He's gone through 4 nannies and is looking for another when Lyla comes to town. She sold everything she owned to move to Rockford to be a school teacher but the job fell through. She hears about Clay needing a nanny and goes to the police station to see him and apply for the position. She gets the job and things are looking up when Emily's maternal grandmother shows up, trying to get custody of Emily. Long story short, she loses and they live happily ever after.

A Stoke of Luck
Clay was at his wits end, as he was having no luck where child care was concerned. Lyla was disappointed when she arrived for a job and was told it longer existed. Talk about being at the right place at the right time, which allowed her to help Clay with his child care issues, find a place to call home and then help save the lives of Emily and Clay. This beautifully written story will make you laugh, cry, be angry, sing and then dance with joy. The only draw back is the number of typographical and grammatical errors, still evident in the book.

Two independent people are thrown together for the sake of a child and sparks fly from the first time they meet. Lyla and Clay find themselves growing closer together and when their happiness is threatened by Emily’s natural family, they must work together to find a solution. This was a fun book to read and I look forward to the next in this fine series.

I’m sorry, but I couldn’t get behind this one.
With the grammatical errors, inconsistencies, and other things that could’ve been easily fixed with an editor, I found this to be hard to read; although, I did finish it because no one likes a quitter.
I got it for free, so no complaints on that end.

3.5 Good Story/Poor Editing
I really loved the story line but the character background could have been further explained. Some parts of the story didnt flow well and left some questions. I found many simple typo errors. Overall yes I did like the story and the main characters but both needed more definition.

Nanny or wife....
This is a well written book about a single sheriff whi becomes guardian to a baby girl who needs a nanny. Along comes a single nanny to take care of the baby and they make sparks at each other until life throws them a curve ball....enjoy it and it makes you want to read the next book as soon as you finish this one.

Beautiful
This was such a great story. Clay is given custody of a baby girl from a young woman his parents took in and helped. He needed help fast. Kayla came to Rockford for a job but then was turned away. She hears ladies talking about the Sheriff needing a nanny. And the rest is history.

Enjoyable read.
Clay has a career in law enforcement. He's a bachelor & then he's a Dad. He gets legal guardianship of Emily. She's two months old & he's never looked after a baby. He gets Nannies but they don't work out. He employs Lyla & she's brilliant with Emily. She's good for him to. Loved this book. Thanks.

Could use better editing.
There were so many grammatical and spelling errors it made some paragraphs hard to read as well as the name placement there were parts of the story where it clearly should have said Emily but said Lyla. And I was confused by the fact that some parts of the story they called the baby Emily and other parts it was Emma. It was an ok story.

A Baby For The Officer by Henley Maverick is a very short read. The story was kind of cute but the editing was horrific. A Baby For The Officer is book 1 of the Boys of Rockford Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger. This author did manage to finally impress me with the hook she used for the next book in the series.

A quick read
There’s nothing worse than getting told you have a job to arrive out of state at that job and find out you don’t with a little money in your pocket. That’s how the story starts and from there it gets really hot. The characters are believable the plot is good, but the author could use better editing and checking for missing words.

It was very simple and adorable. I was a little frustrated with the way it was written a couple times but otherwise it was great. I would read it again. It was really sweet.
