Bewildering the Barkeep

Rate this book
She was on her way to California to see her sister when fiercely independent Caroline Jones was taken from the train station in Creede, Colorado and forced into a life of ill repute. Her employer/captor’s death has given Caroline unexpected access to the type of freedom she’s longed for her entire life - but all that changes when she meets Paddy McGlynn and what she wants starts to look a lot different.

Paddy McGlynn, has built Creede’s very first Irish pub only he didn’t think things through properly. He’s found himself with an empty kitchen and thugs kicking down his door. But Creede has a way of taking care of its own. A local townswoman has just the pub cook Paddy needs and brings Caroline Jones from the newly formed Celeste’s House into his kitchen and his heart.

But are the unseen forces in Creede strong enough to bring Caroline and Paddy together despite all the obstacles they face?

Reviewed at Historically Romantic

Caroline is an outspoken, determined and even strong willed woman that has been broken in some ways, and strengthened in others by the events that happened to her when she first stepped foot in Creede, Colorado. Now a resident of Celeste’s House, Caroline doesn’t see marriage in her future, no, there is no way that any man can see past what was done to her. Yet, she does have one goal that she’s saving every penny for – a way to bring back some of the joy that’s missing from her life. This strong but battered woman is about to see the actions of the angels of Creede up close and personal, even if she never realizes it.

Paddy’s dreams of recreating an Irish pub in Creede have finally come true, tomorrow his life will change in many ways… but it’s today that he has to trust in the unexplainable and set his foot on the path to his future. All he has to do is trust in an angel and heed her words.

I enjoyed stepping back into Creede for Caroline and Paddy’s romance. It’s an emotional trip filled with pain and sorrow, brashness and stubbornness as well. Eventually, with an angel’s help of course, Paddy understood what he had to do to allow Caroline to shine in her own right, and allow herself to feel her own worth in life. We get to run into a couple who usually are the most annoying husband and wife in Creede. Yet, there’s a softening of them each here that makes me wonder if they will be allowed to change their personalities enough to ease into Creede without so much attitude – time will tell but I’ll be watching that develop. Bewildering the Barkeep was a fun read, moved the overall series along a bit further. However, these was one glaring, jarring word in the wrong place that dumped me out of the story in an instant. Usually I don’t make a fuss about that but there really is no way the word used could have been mistaken for the word that should have been in its place. I don’t take stars off for that type of oversight, but it did change the story experience for me… and I finished this couple’s romance firmly in my living room, no longer lost in Creede, Colorado.

Caroline and Paddy 💞

Sweet and tender story. Caroline had been through such a terrible time during her captivity as an abused soiled dove. Now that she is free, her heart has almost turned to stone. Until she meets Paddy, or as she prefers to call him, Patrick.

Paddy is a good man and owns the new Irish Pub. He isn’t sure what to think about the bold, brash woman called Caroline. Until his guardian angel, who is a teenage girl, helps he realize Caroline is perfect for him.

I would have given this five stars, but several typos throughout. Also, Caroline had determined to call Paddy, Patrick, but if I remember right, there were only two instances where she did.

Wonderful Story!

This is the 23rd story in the Cowboys and Angels series. It's the story of Caroline,a captured woman recovered in the second group. She was mistreated the most. The male lead is Paddy McGlynn who is building an Irish pub in Creede. The bad guys are the Condon brothers. The angel helps Paddy learn how to let Caroline be the woman she's meant to be. It's a nice series and although you don't have to read them all or read them in order,it's a better experience if you do read them all in order.

Second chances

Creede is becoming a town where people have a second chance at a life of happiness. I enjoy how several of these stories require forgiveness. . . forgiveness of others but most importantly, forgiveness of self.

Caroline and Paddy

Paddy is just about to open his pub when Benita mentions he needs a cook and she knows the perfect on Caroline. Caroline loves to cook but there are still others after her in Creede. - Babs

Cowboys and Angels

Bewildering the Barkeep by Sara Jolene had plenty of drama and the romance between Paddy and Caroline was sweet. It was one of those you don't want to put down.

Story of Paddy and Caroline and second chances. Paddy now has his Irish Pub finally finished and ready to open but no one to cook in the kitchen. Caroline is recommended to him as a great cook of Shepard's Pie. And the story begins.
Can be read as a standalone but dont recommend as characters jump from book to book in this series and this is book #23 of 69.
I loved this story.
