Crime Bites is a collection of short and super-short stories, each one with crime at its heart. Some are light-hearted tales, others deliciously dark.
Waiting for the bus? Date late? Or just fancy ten minutes curled up with a bedtime story that will keep you guessing till the very end? Then try one of the light bites. If you’ve a little longer, perhaps checking in at the airport, stuck at the station or simply enjoying lunch and a cup of frothy coffee on your own, then try one of the meatier mains.
No matter how much time you’ve got to kill, banish boredom with bite-sized crime.
Susan Handley grew up in the Midlands and despite a love of literature, and crime fiction in particular, she never dreamt of being able to carve out a career as a published writer. But the desire to write never left her and after years of writing by night she has at last been able to share the results of her efforts.
Susan now lives in a small village in rural Kent with her husband and three cats. When she’s not indulging in her love of writing crime fiction she loves walking (the hillier the better), bike riding (the flatter the better) and tending her veggie patch.
This collection of stories of varying lengths is arranged like a menu, with starters, more substantial ‘mains’ and desserts – short, sweet and to die for, as the section heading says. I enjoy short stories as they cut to the chase quickly and, when well done, can be satisfying. These are very well done. I keep thinking back to some of them, and there wasn’t one that disappointed. They take a slightly different slant on the world of crime. In some the ending is unexpected, in one or two I guessed but loved the way the story reached its conclusion. Altogether, a great little book.
I fell in love with these short (and shorter!) stories. Clever twists characterize each of these, there isn’t a single one I didn’t enjoy. Highly recommended for casual reading, there’s always enough time for one of these.
