but still - this guy is really burning me up! because this isn't even a cookbook! this is just a journal of superiority. sure, he will list the ingredients and give some interesting information about the sandwiches in question, but at the end of the day, he is a king on a throne of bread and assorted meats, lording his bounty over us all.
look at this sandwich:
why is anyone besides me eating this? it has beets and goat cheese and honey and arugula and roasted red peppers and roasted garlic spread and whole wheat raisin nut bread. uncool, dude - that should be mine.
and this one:
the rules are, if it has bacon and bananas and honey and peanut butter, then it is mine. understood?
this one is called the "loosemeat" sandwich and is only here because its name makes me giggle.
whatever, dude, you are better than all of us. just know that no one likes you just because you are winning. at sandwiches.
incidentally, i resent the accusation that i am "finicky" for using a separate knife for my peanut butter and my jelly. that's just common sense, yo. peanut butter in the jelly gets all calcified, and jelly in the peanut butter is unacceptable.
I needed my 100th book to be a good one so I quickly read this at work. Such a fun concept of using a scanner to show pictures of these different types of sandwiches. I learned about some new ones. I discovered some gross ones. I saw some favorites and even a shout out to STL for the St. Paul! A fun book about sandwiches overall.
I'm a huge fan of the scanwiches blog so as soon as this book came out I bought it for my favourite foodie for Christmas. The verdict? The pictures make me insanely hungry and I like that it is an informative expansion of the original website rather than just pictures of sandwiches. My only gripe is that it's not long enough! The author focuses on classic sandwiches from around the world which is great... but I miss all the new and interesting combinations they would feature from restaurants around the world. I longed for a little more originality. Maybe for a sequel?
Anyone ever had Marmite? Supposedly you either love it or hate it. Will have to try the sandwich with Marmite and cheddar cheese on toast so that I'll know which camp I'm in.
Please, please, please someone make me a Vada Pav sandwich.
I accidently read this book while at school. I was hungry the rest of the day.
Don't'cha kinda hate this guy? I mean, this is his JOB. I loved this book and i'm sure as hell making some of these sandwiches throughout the week. There were a ton of interesting facts.
My friends made fun of me for reading it, though.. Until I gave it to them to read!
This book will certainly make you hungry and make you want to have all sorts of sandwiches for lunch, especially the interesting international ones that I've never seen before. At the least you'll want to check out the Scanwiches blog. Part of my continuing project to actually read my numerous coffee-table books!
Not really much of a book-book- but worth flipping through. Boy, do I love Banh mi. And bun kababs look pretty awesome, too- going to have to check that out. More of a coffee-table/waiting room book. Not terrible. Interesting, conceptually.
