An utterly raw, emotional gripping read that will tug your heartstrings. Helen Hardt continues to amaze me as she never fails to bewitch me with her heartfelt, bold, and visceral prose. Possession is the third installment of the Steel Brothers Saga and should be read in order to understand the dynamic of Jade Robert and Talon Steel’s relationship.

In this installment, Helen Hardt possess our heart as she really pulled and tugged hard on those emotional strings as she reveals Talon’s past and his abduction. Those raw and vulnerable scenes broke my heart as I wanted to hug Talon and let him know its okay. As readers got to see an exposed Talon, Helen then beautifully pulls her readers back in as she exposes the real love brewing between Jade and Talon. As secrets are revealed, will Talon be able to let Jade fully in? Or will he constantly have that steel wall up?

Helen Hardt did a phenomenal job weaving and layering this book with so much emotions, heartbreak, and heartfelt moments. This book was a sexy blend of mystery, suspense, and heart. So if you are ready to get possessed by Helen Hardt’s poetic writing then I would highly recommend you to read this book and series.

It's times like these that I wish I could give a book negative stars. The first two books in the series were horrible and definitely deserved the lowest rating available, but this book is even worse than them. And I apparently AM going to be suckered into reading books four through six, because I didn't want to hurt a friend's feelings, and I really, really need more booze for this shit.

It's clear that this "series" was intended to start out as a trilogy featuring Jade and Talon's "love story," but then it became popular for COMPLETELY INEXPLICABLE REASONS THAT I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND TO MY DYING DAY, and so the author is milking out another three books (at least), this time featuring Melanie and Jonah. Oh joy. I just can't wait. As such, the plot about the mystery behind Talon's kidnapping as a child, which really should be wrapped up in this book, plods along with no real end in sight. It's obvious that the author is trying to milk it, and since it continues, I am wondering if the author believes that whatever "romance" she can cook up between Jonah and Melanie just isn't hot enough to carry three more books, so she has to stretch along the mystery to keep people interested. And since this is the "Steel Brothers Saga," I am sure that Ryan will have three books too - and hell, why not throw in Marj since she's also a Steel and turn it into the "Steel Family Saga?" Sigh.

This book falls prey to the "just talk to one another, god damn it, and so many misunderstandings will be solved" trope that I fucking hate to read in romance, or, in general, ever. Talon and Jade don't ever really TALK to one another. Whenever they are together, they have "hot" (I disagree with this characterization vehemently - more on that later in this rant) sex. They do, finally, manage to have one serious conversation in this book (), but that is it. How are they so madly in love with one another that they don't even really KNOW one another? Their "tru wuv" romance feels so much more like a rebound relationship for Jade after being left at the altar. I am just not buying it at all.

Even though Talon is not talking about his past with Jade (and I accept that part, at least - he has to tell her, but in his own time and when he's comfortable doing so), he gets pissed off at her when she doesn't tell him information that is pertinent to tracking down the monsters of his past. But the thing is, since he doesn't tell her anything about the past, she doesn't KNOW that it is important to him. That doesn't stop Talon from getting so pissed off at Jade that he strikes her (but it's on the butt, and she ends up liking it, so it's okay, right? *eye roll*) and blaming her for keeping things from him. SHE IS NOT PSYCHIC, ASSHOLE. How in the world is she supposed to know that she has information about his past if she isn't even aware of his past? Of course, the reader knows all of this, which primes the reader to side with Talon, but I'm giving a hard NO to that. Jade DOES NOT KNOW. There is no way that she COULD know. Talon is a jackass for expecting her to know things that he's never told her.

But Talon's asshole behavior isn't just contained to that episode. He's a dick to Jade throughout most of the series, true, but he gets even more dickish in this book. I know, I know, I didn't think it was possible either - but it is. He tells her, quite out of the blue, that he wants her to be submissive to him all of the time. He wants to order her around, forbid her to do things, etc, and he wants her to be okay with that. Whoa what NO. Then, when she tells him (rather weakly) that she has her own life and she is NOT okay with this, he throws into her face that she is submissive to him in the bedroom, so he doesn't see the problem here, and pretty much lays blame at her feet for being submissive in the bedroom but not willing to carry it over into every aspect of her life and be his effective love slave.

HOW DOES ANYONE FIND THIS BOOK TO BE ROMANTIC? Seriously, I have no fucking idea. Talon is a classic "child who was abused now becoming the abuser" in the making, and NO ONE seems to see this!

Now, before anyone argues with me, yes, I know there are D/s couples who enjoy this kind of lifestyle, and as long as its consenting adults, I don't give a shit what goes on with their lives - but it's clearly obvious that Jade is NOT okay with any of this in the book. She fights Talon's domineering tooth and nail at times, and at other times she does acquiesce to keep the peace - CLASSIC behavior of an abusive relationship. NOT SEXY. NOT HEALTHY. NOT GOOD.

Also, apparently therapy is ~*~magic~*~ and solves issues that have been festering for decades in just a couple of sessions! Talon has a "major breakthrough" in just one full therapy session. Gee, I didn't know that it was such a magic cure all! I thought therapy could be a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, with little to no progress visualized for months. So glad that is not the case and apparently I did it all wrong as a teenager!

And to finish off my rant, the sex was just bad. The sex was always bad, granted, but now the author is clearly just phoning it in at this point. Sex is all that Talon and Jade have going for one another, and the descriptions have devolved into an even lower point. I don't have the energy to dissect how bad the sex scenes are, because I have spent my rage on more weightier, rage-inducing topics, but...once again, I must ask, how does anyone find anything in this book attractive or sexy?

God damn it, I do not want to read the next books in this series. I need to find a way to tell my friend that the book series just isn't for me, haha. I can't see how it is for anyone, to be honest. Bad writing, bad characters, bad relationships, and all around bad books. No thanks.

Release Date: September 27, 2016
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Series: The Steel Brothers #3 (must read in order)

:: 5 Pretty Little Stars ::

NOTE: This is the third book in the series and each must be read in order. Book #1 is CRAVING. Book #2 is OBSESION. You should also be warned that this series deals with some very difficult issues (which are descriptive) and may be a hard limit for some.

WOAH. Helen Hardt has truly blown me away with this series. It is dark, emotional, intense, horrifying, and utterly beautiful all mixed together. With the first two book we are left with many unanswered question and the majority of those ARE answered in this one. However, the story is not finished and there are still many things left to be answered and uncovered. To say this one ends in a cliffhanger would be deceiving because it doesn’t really. I mean, peace is made and Talon is able to move on from his terrible past. BUT it does end in a way that tells us that the story isn’t necessarily finished. Some people still need to brought to justice and secrets will still need to be uncovered about the family and their past. So readers should be warned… You may get your happily ever after but you sure as hell don’t get the end of it all… Not by a long shot! Now I can’t wait for MELT which will be available in December of this year.

>> >> SPOLERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVENT READ THIS SERIES <<

For everyone that has read the two previous book in the series, you know that Talon was kidnapped and abused when he was younger. When we finish with book 2 we kind of figure out who is behind the kidnapping and such but are left hanging. Well, in this book we find out WHO TWO of the men are but we are missing the last one. Who could he be??? Once again, Helen leaves us hanging because we get a glimpse of the third masked man in this one which shows us that this story is not over by a long shot! But even still, the story is told in a delicate and beautiful way and the love story that emerges for Talon and Jade is absolutely magnificent. To say these two bring about the emotions is an understatement. I had so many feels that I didn’t know where I was part of the story. YIKES! That’s how you know we have a great author on our hands.

Anyway, ultimately Talon and Jade go get their HEA in this one because Talon is finally able to be honest with her about his past. The growth of this character is truly phenomenal and I loved ho Jade was able to open up this severely damaged man. But, as I said before the story is not over and not everything is resolved yet. I have high hopes that the next book will finish answering everything that has been left unsaid and I honestly cannot wait to dive into it. Is it December yet???

Final thoughts …

This is a truly great series. While it is certainly dark and sad and is likely to upset many readers due to the nature of what happened to Talon when he was a child, the overall story of love and redemption overpowers everything else. Helen Hardt did an amazing job bringing these characters to light and I truly felt like they were friends of mine in some way. If you have yet to read the series, you really should. Readers (and lovers of romance) will get a dark and damaged man who is able to overcome his pain and suffering through love- this is what makes it all so damn beautiful. So read it!

Talon and Jade story finally ends. After all of that soap opera drama, there are some plot that left un answerd. I enjoyed Possession very much. Talon story is heartbreaking. I am glad Miss Hardt brings justice to his HEA wih Jade.

I was at the edge of my seat while listening to the audiobook. All of those drama, plot twist, banter and mystery behind everything. I am sure I will be enthralled by the next books.

Disappointed this wasn't really a finale to the series. I knew as I was getting closer and closer to the end that there was no way it was going to be resolved in his book. I don't like that I was lead to believe it was a three book series. I would have definitely read more books about the brothers and sister in the future (hopefully stand alones), but I would have been much happier if Talon's story had been better completed in this book. They could have been tied into future books in a different way. I feel like it is a ploy to sell more future books (to keep the story incomplete), and quite frankly that really annoys me.

I skim read this book... three or four sentences per page. DNF.
I tried to read it because I have a problem reading two books of a trilogy and not finishing the third.
I try not to write bad reviews so here it goes....
Don't read this book if you enjoy well written stories and solid plot structures.

Villains all around!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💜🩷🩶🤎
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: ☹️😄😍😮
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Jade Roberts - she is a lawyer, working at the city attorney’s office office in Snow Creek Colorado. She is in love with Talon Steele and best friends with his sister Marge. At the request of her boss Larry, whom she thinks is pretty shady, she has been doing some investigation into the Steele family. She also wanted to do some research on her own because the family has so many secrets and she wants to do what she can to help Talon and Marge if she can.

The Hero: Talon Steel - He is a wealthy rancher, who runs an orchard on the family ranch, his brother Ryan runs the winery, and his other brother Jonah works with the livestock. Talon was kidnapped by three men when he was 10 years old. He was held in a dark basement for nearly two months and was brutally beaten, raped and starved by the three masked men over and over until his escape. He has been struggling with the memories for years and has finally started dealing with his past while working with a psychologist.

The story: Jade has started to think that her boss Larry might be a sociopath and is a bit scared of him. Jade is also becoming suspicious of her mother’s new boyfriend Nico. This book was nearly as good as the first two. Like I said with those, there is a lot of steam in these books. The two main characters like like hooking up and get quite adventurous in the sack. After binging the trilogy though, I found myself fast forwarding some of the steamy scenes because I had enough.

I loved that Talon was dedicated to getting better and kept seeing his psychologist. Though I did think it took a bit too long before he finally told Jade about his past. Some of things that happened, and some of the things that didn’t happen surprised me quite a bit. I was hoping that Talon would get a bit more resolution and revenge.

This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Neva Navarre and Sebastian York. Sebastian is one of my favorite male narrators. He has a deep, gravelly voice which sounds so sexy, especially in the intimate scenes. Neva Navarre has a nice voice and sounds natural and expressive.

I really don’t know how I felt about this book. When I went into this book I thought that it was going to be the final book for Talon and Jade, but the way this book ended we are still on the Talon train even though the next book will Jonah’s story.

Honestly, I feel like they have really dragged out Talon’s story over these three books. So I’m a little disappointed that it’s STILL not finished.

We finally see Talon get on the path to start to heal and bare everything to Jade.

Moving on to what I didn’t like. I get that Talon was going through things and trying to work out everything in his life, but it irritated me that he would get mad at Jade when she didn’t tell him about Larry and Nico. She didn’t think those things were important because she didn’t know. He asked her to be patient with him but he was unruly at times.

I also didn’t like how Jade would act sometimes. She was strong and I loved the way she didn’t back down when Talon would try to forbid her to do things. However, it irritated me when she would get all happy because of the little things he did. See quote below.

“I didn’t know what was bothering Talon, but the fact that he said he was sorry that he woke me meant the world to me.”

Like Seriously?! She praised him for something that he should’ve been doing in the first place.

Irritation aside, It was okay of a read and the chemistry with Jade and Talon was hot. Will I be moving on in the serious? I highly doubted.

All filler, with a very unsatisfying ending. So anticlimactic!

I vow to you, the three to four Goodreads users who read my reviews, that I will NEVER AGAIN be drawn into these trilogies where the first book is pretty good, ends on a cliffhanger, and then continues with two more books when it should be one more, max.

NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Afterthought: HOW does this book have more than four GR stars but all I see are one and two star reviews???

This is the third book in the Steel brothers saga, and more secrets about Talon's past are revealed. Talon is still seeing his therapist and working to finally be rid of his demons so he can have a real relationship with Jade. jade is still working to uncover more about the Steel family, while facing some personal crisis of her own. Will Talon ever be able to reveal his deepest, darkest secrets to Jade? Will Jade still love him when she finds out? Can a man as broken as Talon ever be truly happy? Read and see!

This is a hard review to write because I don't want to give anything away. But, wow this book has so many twist and turns it left my head spinning! Even though some secrets are revealed there are so many more waiting to be uncovered. Some parts of the story are hard to read, of course, but those scenes are so well written they didn't take away anything from the story for me. I can't say I enjoyed reading those parts, but I feel they are vital to the story.

The love scenes are beautifully written and so scorching hot I'm fanning my face just thinking about them. Aye Carumba! Even though this is kinda the end of Jade and Talon's part of the story, the story is far from over. I have so many questions, I can't wait for the next book in this series!

Are you for real?

Who writes a story and puts in four of possibly book? A greedy person! I am so disappointed with Helen Hardy. Some of the sex scenes didn't need to be written. We got the point. In fact, most of them I passed over without reading. I do not appreciate being lead to believe this was compatible to 50 Shades of Gray. I will not buy anymore of her books. Helen Hardy clearly demonstrates that the writing is not important. It is the money she can collect at our expense

Dead. I'm dead from the strongest book hangover ever. Helen exceeded every expectation I had for this book. It was heart pounding, heartbreaking, intense, full throttle genius. This book was EVERYTHING!!! I thought my heart would stop..It felt that good to see Talon finally make breakthroughs in his life. There really are no words accurate enough to describe how amazingly incredibly beautiful this book was. This was a definite 6 star read. Couldn't recommend it enough.

This book was a total bore. I really hate when authors drag a series out but the story could have been summed up in 1 or 2 books. Totally not worth $6.99.

I’ve had the worst luck with books this week. The writing in this series is terrible. I mean, it’s some of the worst I’ve ever read. Additionally, nothing in the story makes sense. The premise could have been a good story in better hands and I was very generous by giving books 1 and 2 two stars but this fucking book. Argh. I kept reading to get to the resolution of what happened to Talon (the MMC) and we don’t find out! I mean, it’s bad enough the author drug the story out to three books to begin with but to not wrap up Talon and Jade’s story in this last book. It’s just unconscionable. I want the time I spent on this heaping trash pile back. I’m really a nice person but I’m so aggravated over this book and Babel. The other heaping pile of shit I spent my week on. That 3 star book from earlier in the week is looking really good about now.

Oh and another thing….who are these people that rated this 5 stars????? WTF? What books are reading? Bless your hearts is all I can think. I don’t understand. This isn’t a case where we have different tastes blah blah blah. These books are terrible. If you want some good smut that has some romantic suspense / mystery with messed up characters, read Meghan March. It’s obviously not great literature but at least they’re well written and you get the conclusion at the end of third fucking book. I seriously wanted to scream. Someone please make it make sense. I have wasted my time. I could have been reading other books.

I'm used to the poor quality of writing in this genre and usually you have to wade through many books before you can find the ones that are well-written, but this series just was too poorly done.

The main issues I had centered around how Jade and Talon literally never talk. When they go on a date they enjoy "quiet silence", when they drive together they are "alone with their thoughts", and when they do actually talk its always about how Jade is not helping Talon or could never understand his past even though HE REFUSES TO EVER TALK ABOUT IT. Jade is NOT psychic and would have absolutely no way of knowing that her boss's missing toe had ANYTHING to do with Talon's past or that the phoenix tattoo would be a trigger for him. Instead of saying, "Hey Jade that tattoo/toe/whatever is a trigger from my past and really upsets me" Talon chooses to, instead, yell at Jade and hit (or I guess spank) her for being so inconsiderate.

Look, if you never talk or communicate this is going to lead to misunderstandings and ultimately, anger. Which it did. Talon took out his anger on Jade, in I guess a sexual way but not one she seemed to care for, all because they couldn't even carry a simple conversation. Talon and Jade were obviously meant to be a one night stand and then have neither one of them ever look back. Instead the author tried to turn their dysfunction into a romantic relationship, which is impossible when your main characters never talk. I mean their marriage would be a nightmare. Ex: "Who does the grocery shopping? Who asks how your day was? Who do you talk to about something that is bothering you?" NOT Talon.

Do I read the next one?! I feel less compelled than the last times but also we got a new POV!

Ok summary/review with no spoilers: I felt Jade was more needy/whiny in this one. I had a lot of respect for Talon and how he put boundaries in place until he was ready. I think he’s healing hella fast but I get why “normal paced” healing doesn’t read as well. #personalexperience

I really want more story around Jade’s best friend Mark but I fear that is far in the future. The open ended Colin disappearance is something true crime me is interested in. My friend loved this series so I’m gonna ask her lol.

The end?? Seriously?! And I already thought that it will end as a trilogy and the next book in the series will be only about Jonah.. and now everything is different?

Woah.. I don't even know where to start, as my head is full of impressions and thoughts right now!

Well, Talon&Jade… Again, although Talon's story - or rather his past - was extremely traumatic, a duet would have been better. That's why it seemed to me that the author had to mask the constantly repeating conversations and pointless dilemmas(which were solved almost with the snap of her fingers anyway) with the words "I love you" repeated a thousand times or with endless orgasms. And by endless I mean - how does that happen five times in fifteen minutes, lol? I know it’s fiction, but still… 💀😂

Otherwise, this book was much better than the previous one. The plot unfolded much more, there was less boring passages and on the contrary, the tension surprisingly increased. Plus, in addition, the author outlined several other plot lines for us, which look definitely interesting. So, satisfaction for me and I will definitely continue the series. 8/10.

The third exciting installment is just like the previous two: thrilling, steamy, and leaves you wanting more.
Diving deeper into Talon's mind is both intriguing and sad. He wants to be rid of these demons of the past, but he also wants to hold on and get down to the bare bones. Tal believes he won't be able to have a real relationship with Jade until he does. The question remains: will he ever trust that Jade's love will overrule any brokenness he feels?
Jade continues to reveal Steel family secrets on top of her own personal issues. She's strong, but sometimes too much for her own good. The more we learn about Jade, the more of a mystery she becomes as well. Between her mom and her dad, it's no wonder she is how she is.
Jade and Talon continue to find side-by-side as well as on their own. Piecing together everything they can to do what needs to be done.
Cliffhangers!!!! Helen Hardt is a QUEEN at giving us cliffhangers and leaving us wanting more.

I loved this trilogy. SPOILER (But I know its not the end. Others need to work out their own problems from such a horrific event. Two more men must be caught and delt justice.)

The Steel brothers in Colorado have had to deal with a horrific event for 25 years. And now because the brother Talon has finally decided he wanted help, has not only started his healing process, but found love as well.

This story is not for the faint of heart. Yes. It's a romance and EVERYONE knows how I am about a nasty bit here and there lol, but I'm serious...this had triggers and very graphic flash backs our poor man has to live with. Open if you think your heart can take it.

Talon and Jade's story comes to a conclusion in this installment of the Steel Brothers - kind of. Helen Hardt excels at plotting and pacing, so now I find myself in the position of having to continue the series with Jonah's book. Sometimes you just have to know what happens next.

Well done, Ms. Hardt - you've got me hooked!

The first part of this one may have dragged a bit with Talon refusing to confide in Jade, but everything really picks up in the second half. The way bits and pieces of the mystery surrounding Talon's kidnapping are revealed is really well-done. And of course the signature, slightly dark sex scenes remind you that this is actually a romance novel. So while some of the dialogue is just as cheesy as it was in the previous books, it's worth sitting through to experience the book as a whole.

Takk for mæ

Didn’t love this one as much as the first two. Still a decent story but I think I expected a little bit more or at least a solid ending.
But nope, I need to read the next one so I can follow the breadcrumbs to learn more... oh well I guess it’s on to book 4.
I am looking forward to reading a different brothers story.

Possession is the final book for Jade and Talon and then I believe it focuses more on the next brother. We don't get full resolution in this book and I'm thinking it's because it affects all the brothers and we will see things resolved throughout the whole series. That's my hope anyway. I am glad the secrets between Jade and Talon seem to be over and they are finally at a healthy step in their relationship. I'm still wanting to see the men who took Talon at the age of 10 come to justice. I'm curious what more will be brought to light since the next book does move more towards Johah Steele.

I really don't know how to feel at this moment. I immediately downloaded Melt because that final chapter and the epilogue was just insane. HOLY SHIT!! I think I've said that with my last two reviews on this saga. It amazes me how Helen Hardt has taken such amazing characters and created such a gripping romance story dealing with so many issues and throwing plot twist after twist. I am amazed and in love with the Steel brothers.

Jade is such an understanding woman. She is strong, tender and caring woman. She has such amazing things happening in this story while also getting hit with some hardships. I think the way she handled things with her mother was a bit petty, but I feel like she was entitled to do so, especially since her mother is ignorant in all ways. Jade's mother is an airhead. Jade is amazing and I love how she was just so submissive with Talon in the bed, but a strong equal outside of the bedroom. Amazing woman.

Talon is bae!!! I freaking love him! He has gone through so much, but in this book he broke down those walls, shared his pasts with his family and told Jade things he never thought he could. Talon learned that he is capable of love and worthy of receiving. Talon learned a lot about himself and his real strength. I'm happy he was able to get near the light of his dark tunnel.

The romance was outstanding from the first book to this third book. Talon has learned to love and be loved. Jade has broken down his walls and brought light to his life. Talon has ignited a true fire in Jade. I am ready for them to have a few babies and get married in any order. Let's not forget to mention the sex -- they definitely stepped it up a few notches in this book.

Larry and Nico are absolutely the most disgusting men ever for what they did. That epilogue revealing who the third man freaking blew my mind. I know Melt will focus on the eldest Steel brother, Jonah, but the whole situation being revealed with the rose and the third man has me excited for more drama to be revealed.

I need to know if Colin is dead or not. I need to know where Nico ran off. I want to know why the hell Larry and this family friend (the third guy) to the abduction thought it was okay to do what they did. Will Talon get justice for what happen? Will Bailey come to her sense and really learn to love her daughter?

Amazing series!!!! I am ready for Melt and the rest of this saga! I'm loving the Steel family.
