She’s running from her title and a man she doesn’t love. He’s just a farm boy who dreams of becoming more. She has all the luxuries in the world but is never truly happy. He is forced to sleep in a barn and treated like a slave. She just wants to be invisible; he just wants to be seen When their two worlds collide, can they really live out their perfect dream? Throw in a hint of magic, a glass slipper and a ball. Add two nasty stepbrothers and then just maybe, love can conquer all.
*PLEASE NOTE this book contains some moderate language and moderate adult themes of a sexual nature. I would rate it as NA.
Hi I'm Kristy and I live in the U.K. I have always written short stories and poetry. I went to university to study acting which I loved, but my real passion has always been writing. So, now I write the kind of stories I would have wanted to read as a teen. "Kiera's Quest- part one & two," a Middle-grade/ teen fantasy series, is now available on e-book and paperback. If you like shape shifters, magical realms and a chosen one, then this may be for you! My YA contemporary romance book, "Just Sam," about a young tennis star who loses someone important and has to trust in life and love again, is available on Amazon in print & on Kindle, as is my YA/NA fairy-tale retelling, "Cinderfella." Cinderfella has all roles reversed and is aimed slightly older, as there is a little passion and darkness to this tale, but still keeps the magic of the original. I also have a YA Paranormal Romance trilogy, 'The Summer Solstice series.' "Summer's End," book one, "Summer's Lost" (2) and "Summer's Time," are all available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited, as are all my titles. My latest is a Modern day retelling of Romeo and Juliet with an 80's obsessed gymnast and a dyslexic rep, "The Brightest Stars."
I love reading of course. I have lots of new projects in mind, and I'm currently working on a New Adult Contemporary Romance...
It was a sweet spin to the classic tale of Cinderella. I quite enjoyed it and it was a quick read full of hope. The characters were wonderful. I couldn't put this down.
What if Cinderella were written about a man? Kristy Brown “drops the other shoe” on fairytale romance with CINDERFELLA and readers are in for a fun and fanciful story with a sweet romance and the chance for a Happily Ever After for Ash, our male Cinderella.
A quirky fairy godfather, a pet pig named Gus bring light humor into play as one princess is faced with doing her duty to her kingdom or following her heart as she finds love at first sight where she least expected it.
Hard to imagine in this modern world that a man could be “captive” to the whims of his adopted father and brothers, but there are reasons…
A fun read that is both quick and easily devoured in one reading! Although listed as young adult, I’m not sure I can go with that, but anyone who loves their fairy tales will love this version, glass slipper and all!

Cinderfella by Kristy Brown is a bit of a twist on the fairytale of Cinderella. Ms. Brown has gender swapped the roles and given a modern spin, and her own unique flare to the story- making it both captivating and interesting. Ash lives in a barn with his adorable pot-bellied-pig, Gus. His step father and step-brothers treat him badly and he hasn’t got things easy. So, what happens when a beautiful woman turns up at the barn, needing help? Ellie is running from the weight of her responsibilities, when she finds herself at Ash’s barn. He’s sweet, kind, and sexy- so what happens when Ms. Brown adds a little splash of magic? This is well worth the read to find out! This story is as sweet as cherry pie- but well balanced with a little humour, some emotion, touching moments, and wonderful romance. Very enjoyable!
One of my favorite retellings that I have ever read! I felt like a kid watching Cinderella for the first time ever as I was reading this story, but only with a twist. I was in a reading slump when I picked up this book and I was immediately brought out of it. I don't often reread books but I am going to have to make an exception for this one.
Lovely twist on Cinderella. I really enjoyed the roles reversed element to the book. Loved the Fairy Godfather - Gerry is awesome. It’s the first book I’ve read for a while that has been paperback, rather than on a kindle, and I appreciated the cool cover too.
Would recommend if you want to relive a fairytale 🧚♀️
I loved the premise when I read it. I fell in love with the story in the first chapter.
And then, I sort of fell out of love. I liked the concept of having a male Cinderella story. Although Ash's brothers were related by adoption rather than by step, I could get behind it. Ash had a father who stopped being paternal when his mother died. Ash's magical help was male. It was a nice 180 from the story we're used to reading. I liked that Ash had a pig named Gus (a nod to Disney's Cinderella with Gus-gus the mouse?). I even liked that the princess had some Cinderella attributes herself (Ellie, glass slippers). I was a little disappointed that Gus didn't become a motorcycle (a pig turned into a Hog, y'know?) which I confess I expected from the beginning. I liked Betty's character.
What I liked: Ash was still getting things done and contributing to the world around him in spite of his circumstances.
What I didn't like: the language, the sex scene
I like young adult literature in large part because I generally get to avoid all the sex. That being said, I give Brown props for not using the much-overused and eyeroll-inducing phrase "deepened the kiss." Also, although I could have done without the sex scene altogether, Brown did an excellent job of depicting informed consent. More than once there was verbal confirmation between the two characters. In a world where entertainment includes sexual intimacy that romanticizes sexual aggression or sexual selfishness, I applaud the author for choosing otherwise. I take exception to the sex scene for other reasons that, if explained here, would be spoilers.
All in all, I think Brown had a good idea. I think she has talent. I may read other works by her.
I really enjoyed this lovely read, the Cinderella story is the stuff of legends, shaping ideas of romance and true love for who you are inside- not on appearances of wealth for generations. Who better to bring the story up to date with a twist than author Kristy Brown! Cinderfella is not a children's story, Ashes meets Ellie in forbidden circumstances, he is gorgeous inside and out, and she, (also good-hearted) is searching for an escape from an arranged marriage. The setting worked around the storyline plot, obviously, some creativity used with bringing stories of Royalty up to date, but that did not matter at all, because if, like Princess Elle you are looking for an escape, then this book is for you. It is romantic, it is funny to quote - 'shut your Royal gob!' I enjoyed it, that's why I'm giving it five stars.
This is a cute story filled with magic, romance, hopes and dreams. I enjoyed the characters and could *feel* their problems. I really felt sorry for Ash. All that he has endured from his step brothers and family. His continued positive attitude and happy face surprised me at times. I guess it just took years for him to accept his lot and find the good in everything. I commend him. Princess Elle was a surprise. Her irritation for the castle, her duties and shockingly the “airs” that she didn’t put on. I guess the grass always does look greener on the other side no matter what the situation.
This line below spoken between the pair slay-ed me.
Princess: “Don’t look at me! No one is supposed to see me like this”
Ash: “I’m great at being nobody”
What Ash is really saying is “don’t worry I’m used to being invisible and have no one to tell” as well as trying to alleviate her worries and make her feel better. So heartbreaking and lovely at the same time.
This is a first time author for me. She did a wonderful job. The story flowed and she made me care about the characters. I love that it’s filled with a good vs evil theme throughout the whole book.
Cinderfella is a modern retelling of the story of Cinderella, only there's a princess instead of a prince and a young man living with awful stepbrothers and a stepfather.
Ellie, a teenage princess, runs away after realizing palace life was like a cage she was constantly trapped in. She stumbles upon a barn only to find Ash, a man about her age who is lonely and heartbroken after the passing of his mother. It is love at first sight until Ellie's true identity is revealed and a reward is put in place for her return.
A whirlwind adventure ensues as Ash tries to fight for Ellie's love, even though it seems impossible. This book is cheesy at times, yet adorable!
Overall, I thought this was a really interesting story and I loved how the elements of Cinderella were present, yet the story was able to still have a very modern feel. One thing I didn't like was that the book felt very rushed, and would have enjoyed it more if the book had been longer.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
I really loved this story👍! It is a modern retelling of the fairytale Cinderella just with a guy as Cinderfella! The fairytale is about Ash/Ashes/Ashley who, after his adoptive mother dies, is outcast by his father and brothers and lives in the barn with his little pig Gus. One evening an old man knocks at his door to get some help with his car. Ash helps him and when he gets back, a girl stands in the barn asking him for help because she twisted her ankle when she dropped her glass shoe! He helps her and let’s her stay for a while and then the fairytale starts😊❤️! Ash and Ellie are such a sweet couple and you just route for them to find a way to be together! I was close to crying several times because I just got so frustrated that people around them don’t listen and are so narrow minded and old fashioned🥺! I think Kristy Brown wrote a sweet, funny, heartfelt, romantic but also sad story where you really fell a lot of feelings throughout the read❤️! I can definitely recommend this book👍❤️! “Love always finds a way....well most of the time”
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown was a sweet, entertaining reverse fairytale retelling, that stole my heart.
I love fairytale retellings, and this one wasn't only unique but it was fresh, modern, and had all the magic of the original. The only thing that I think would have made this story all the more amazing, an epilogue. Just a little something to us know, that their dreams came true.
I will say that this book is a little darker then your normal sugar sweet retelling, and I like that little bit of a twist. There was just something about them that made me root for them. I loved how is wasn't just love at first sight, they connected, spent time together, and actually developed proper feelings for one another. The ball at the end was a nice nod, and I loved the entrance scene, I got chills!
Overall this book is a wonderful retelling that will play on that childhood nostalgia. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval that, you will fall head over heels for this fuzzy read.
Cinderella is definitely my favorite fairytale. So, naturally, I was very interested in this re-telling. While I genuinely enjoyed Ash and Ellie's characters, the story itself was not much a reading mystery. It was a bit predictable. But pushing that aside, I did enjoy it to an extent. I never point stuff like this out, but the formatting of the book was just a bit wonky on my eyes. I tried zooming and changing some setting on my e-reader, but it just didn't seem to rectify the massive gaps between some of the words. I don't know if it's a case of accidental/extra spacing or what, but on someone struggling with dyslexia(in my case, it's not just the mixing of letters and numbers), it's not very pleasant. However, I'm overlooking it because the book itself is a great read.
MY RATING: 3.5 OF 5 STARS, ROUNDED UP TO 4.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through the New Adult Book Club (RiRi). This is my honest, voluntary review.
The story Cinderfella is a fantasy book that I loved reading. It is a story that is sweet, romantic, and hooked me in from the very beginning. The story is wonderful, the characters are well-developed, and I couldn’t help but care about the farm boy and the girl who is on the run. They are characters that I was rooting for to find happiness. The farm boy is handsome, hardworking, and cares about others. The girl has all the luxuries in life. What happens when there two worlds collide? Read this book to find out. There are moments that make you laugh, smile, and are heartwarming. I enjoyed the bantering that goes back and forth. Add in a bit of magic and you have the perfect tale that you won’t want to put down until you have read the last page. This is a wonderful telling of a story. I highly recommend reading it.
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown. This is a retelling of Cinderella where the boy is the poor outcast step child and the girl is rich, confident and beautiful. Ashley aka Ash lives in the barn with his pig Gus after his adoptive mom dies and he is outcast by his father and brothers. A girl ( Ellie) comes to the door of the barn and asks for help in finding her glass shoe and because she hurt her ankle. He helps her and then the sparks fly. Its a sweet fantasy romance that will keep you turning the pages. I loved the sweet characters of Ashley and Ellie but felt bad for them because everyone else was against them. This is a fun romance that will stick with you after you are done. Read Cinderfella for a feel good story!
I thought that Cinderfella was a great read! I love how authors are taking transitional fairy tales and adding a new unique twist to them and Ms Brown definitely did that with this story! I thought that it was a great twist and made the story really fun to read. I loved all of the characters, well with the exception of a few, but I absolutely adored Gus! I thought the author came up companion for Ash! Ash was as had hoped he would be – a sweet and genuine person! I loved it when he met Ellie! I loved the romance, the sweet tender moments I think that anyone who is a fan of Cinderella will love this unique and modern re-telling! I know I did!! I look forward to reading more from this author again in the future!
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown is a unique and clever take on a modern day Cinderella fairytale. It is a quick read but a fun read and is sweet and cute. This tale is full of hopes and dreams, a little magic and a sweet romance. It is funny and heartfelt and at times a little sad.
Ash has been treated poorly by his father and brothers but he has his pet pig, Gus. When a knock on his door one night provides for an interesting tale, he doesn’t realise that it would turn out to be his quirky old fairy godfather. He also doesn’t realise that a strange woman in his home would turn out to be a princess.
Anyone who loves a fairy tale will fall in love with this modern day and role reversal version.
Was a cute quick read that had a lot of the same story we know and love from the original Cinderella but with some twists before our couple gets to their happily ever after
I felt some of the dialogue was awkward it started off feeling like a movie from the 1950's but then you knew it was supposed to be modern times due to having modern cars mentioned, lap top computers, what was on TV and Ed Sheeran.
Kristy Brown takes the classic fairytale and flips it on its head in Cinderfella. Instead of the usual damsel waiting for rescue, we get a refreshing twist. a farm boy forced into servitude, dreaming of more, and a runaway noblewoman who longs to escape her title.
What I loved most was how the story balances whimsy with heart. There are the familiar elements, magic, a ball, a glass slipper, but they’re woven into a fresh narrative that feels both nostalgic and new. The characters are relatable in their struggles to be seen, valued, and free to choose their own path.
The romance builds with just the right amount of tension and charm, and the secondary characters (including the nasty stepbrothers!) add depth and drama. It’s light, engaging, and leaves you smiling by the end.
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown is a creative spin on a classic tale. The modern elements of this story were uniquely done along with the magical elements. It is inspiring at its core along with the character chemistry, drama, suspense and possibly a happily ever after? One farm boy with two stepbrothers versus one titled girl, you just want to read it due to the differing dynamic to that classic story we all have heard. This story has some depth to it too with goals and dreams. I found in reading this story that it was sweet, yet alluring at the same time. It begged to be read and it's a cute story with dynamic telling as the story unfolds.
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown has a fairy tale story with a twist. Kristy Brown did an amazing job of taking Cinderella and putting a new twist. I enjoyed this story because it was a simple novel and not one where you had to focus on every word to figure out about who did what/where or how/why everything is being done. With the roles reversed, there is a country young man Ash, who is being treated unfairly by his step-father and step brothers. Then there was beautiful young woman, Ellie who is bashful and is trying to escape from the wealth and her responsibilities. Will Ash find Ellie and save her or will Ellie find Ash and save him?
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown is a brilliant retelling of the classic Cinderella story. It is a reimagining that I have not read anything like before. This whole story was written in a way to capture your heart. The characters were complex and interesting and yet had a sweet side to them. With every page I found myself becoming more invested in them. The story I found to be unique and well written. I have read plenty of retellings of Cinderella and yet none before have been with the characters in reverse. For me this made the whole reading experience more exciting. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book and one I would highly recommend.
Cinderfella by Kristy Brown is a twist on a classic fairy tale. Ash is a boy who doesn't have it all. Ellie comes from luxury and is missing her glass slipper. What happens when the two meet? I always enjoy new takes on classic stories. This was no different. The story is sweet and I was wanting the happily ever after for the two of them. This was a fun, light read during a hectic week. It gave me a break from reality and allowed me to relax and recharge. I look forward to reading more from Kristy Brown in the future.
I wanted to like this story more than I did. It started out cute and sweet; from the play on their names ( Ash and Ellie), the runt pot bellied pig, to their meet cute, but somewhere along the way it became something I wasn't interested in reading. While I am not the target audience I typically enjoy contemporary fairy tales.
I always appreciate the effort a writer puts into creating a story as I am not someone who could do it. While this one didn't tickle my fancy, it might be perfect for you.
This was so cute. I really enjoyed this take on a classic. In this story Ash is the poor boy who is mistreated by his family and hoping that one day he can get away. Ellie is a rich princess who doesn’t want her life decided for her so she runs away and stumbles into Ash’s barn. They form a bind in the short time they are together and it’s love at first sight. I really loved it and thought Gerry the fairy godfather was great.
This story is well written and has a creative take on this fairytale. This is about a woman who has everything and he is a farm boy, who is her opposite. What will happen when she comes upon his barn and their worlds collide like no other? Oh, and she is on the run. They are great characters that made me laugh, feel compassion and I found myself hoping they would find their HEA. They made the story come to life and kept me turning pages. I enjoyed this book, I highly recommend it.
5 Star Cinderfella by Kristy Brown is a wonderfully written story that will draw you in from the beginning and keep your attention till the end. This is a twist on the classic fairytale .This is about a woman who has everything but is on the run and he’s a complete opposite. What happens when these two worlds collide?I truly enjoyed this book and highly recommend reading it especially if you want to find out if these two get their HEA. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
What a fun and clever take on a classic! The characters were so real, and I especially loved the character of Gerry - he's legit the funniest and best I'd say! I did however, notice some formatting issues, but aside from that, I really enjoyed this story. Gender flipping it this way brought in a lot of unique nuances that I never would have thought of before. I would definitely recommend this to friends!
I am a sucker for a fairy tail and even more so for a new take on a classic. This book was an enjoyable take on one of my favorites. I felt that the tale took some nice deviations from the original and yet stayed true to its roots. Who doesn't want to have their happily ever after? All in all, this was a sweet adventure and perfect for a cozy afternoon.
It took me a few pages to get used to the first person, present tense, but I'm so glad I stuck with it as I soon completely forgot I was reading a different writing style than I'm used to; I fell into the story and lost myself there. Lovely characters that you can fall in love with and a great modern twist on a classic tale.
This retelling of Cinderella through a male perspective was just brilliant. I throughly enjoyed how the author told his side of the story and how it came to be. It’s a turbulent whirlwind of life’s journey and where you’re suppose to be and I may have shed a few tears at the end lol. I highly recommend this book is your looking for a new fairytale to read.
