The GriefShare participant workbook contains a video note-taking section, a daily personal Bible study, a weekly journaling and "grief work" section, insights from prominent Christian leaders, helpful articles, Scripture tear-out cards, and a gospel presentation. Each group member receives a GriefShare workbook to be used throughout the 13-week program.
GriefShare is an outstanding resource to work through grieving the loss of a loved one. This 13-session support group program was extremely helpful in processing our feelings about our losses. In the book you have 5 short devotionals for each of the 13 weeks that are simple and reflective. It is solid, foundational Biblical truth that any Christian denomination would approve of. I happen to know the Guthries are Presbyterian, and the group in my community meets at a Baptist church. GriefShare is an outstanding resource for grief support groups.
It's a little early to actually review this book even though I've finished it due to the nature of its intent. This is a book intended for a 13-week program to help people through their grief of losing a loved one, so I may come back later to update after the first class is finished.
For now I can say that I have worked briefly with the program and know the local leader who sponsors it and the program itself is very effective. This book certainly facilitates the counsel that so many have relied upon in order to get through their grief. Not only would I recommend the book, but its accompanying videos and, without doubt, the program it was designed to support for anyone who needs it.
I have to admit that I haven't read every single page. In the beginning, I was really good at doing my "homework" for each session but later I just didn't get it done. I might go back and revisit it though. This book goes along with the GriefShare program. You watch videos and discuss with others who are grieving. I liked being able to talk with others who I knew would understand.
I will say that I'm not Christian and this is VERY Christian based. In some sessions I could just sort of ignore that part and focus on the rest but some sessions were all faith based (like one on heaven). I did get useful information from the book/videos so I'm thankful I had access to this.
Clear and concise lessons to walk you through the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of loss. Video segments along with guided writing prompts make this a comprehensive learning for people. I think if I had just done the book on its own I would have rated this lower; but because I did the book with a community through my church I'm rating this higher because I got a lot out of our discussion time.
This workbook went along with a 13-week GriefShare class. It’s filled with articles, quotes, verses, weekly homework, inspirations, helpful tips and space to take notes during sessions.
The consistency of the class and material was most helpful, giving myself a place to “put” my emotions and feelings about grief and helping me process through the loss of my brother.
Absolutely phenomenal, would recommend to anyone who is currently dealing with a loss or who has ever in the past dealt with one. Find more information at www.griefshare.com also
Life-saving. I don’t know how I would’ve gotten through “the first year” without this group. The book goes along with in-group discussion and weekly video lessons. Highly highly recommend. 💔
The advice, personal stories, and guiding questions are well put together in this workbook for the grieving soul. I recommend this book and the groups that use it.
I found myself desperate looking for help with my grief. I found a group in Washington (I thought they were in Vancouver) that offer this program. I just started; I hope by the end of session 13 I am able to move a little further on my journey to heal.
