Hannah always dreamt of a white knight sweeping her up off her feet and riding off into the sunset where they would live happily ever after. She thought Jeremy was that man. After falling in love with him at the tender age of fifteen, she hoped her dreams were coming true. But soon after, Jeremy started showing signs of aggression toward the young, fragile girl. With having nothing but stars in her eyes and a cloud of love affecting her judgement, Hannah always made excuses for him. Eight years later, the troubled couple were now living together, and the aggression had grown to full on physical abuse, but Hannah, who wanted to believe in love and that happy ending, stuck around because she loved him… or so she thought. The fog started to lift from Hannah after meeting Amber, a no non-sense kind of girl, from the local coffee shop Hannah started working at. After Amber introduced Hannah to a few special people in town, Hannah began to wonder what living life could be like without having fear in her heart. The beatings increased at home, and the apologies lessened as time went on. When Hannah developed her first girl crush to a woman who had the abilities to crush a man, she wanted out. But how? Dive into Hannah’s world where she struggles with the woman she is and the woman who she yearns to be as she fights to survive. Will she finally get her knight? Will her hero save her?
The Kitten series will always remain my shining star. Rae and her family is what got me into writing and what's kept me going. As I venture off towards new characters and storylines, one thing that will stay the same is the butch/femme dynamic. I have even dabbled with butch/soft butch non-binary characters. I love masculine women and everything about them, from their charm, chivalry, style and everything else in between.
This past spring I happily signed a contract with Painted Hearts Publishing for my new book, A Jade's Diamond, that will be released in the new year. I hope to continue working with the lgbtq publisher for more great stories I write.
I look forward to hearing your opinion toward my older books and my newer books that will be published in the near future.
This book can hit people in a few ways. There is some good and bad. The bad being the domestic violence and rape which could trigger some people. But this is a harsh reality of something that exists everyday. The good is what happens when you have friends that will help you and take care of you no matter what. Even when you can’t see what they are trying to do. A bonus is hot tattooed women and motorcycles! Gets me every time.
Disappointed. Did not finish and skimmed a great deal.
There are serious writing flaws in this one. Paragraphs that go on for pages, head hopping, all tell and no show, formatting errors (centred text in the middle of ordinary prose) and so on. I could not invest in the characters at all. A decent editing team should have knocked this into shape.
This is not a review of Torn. I am writing this to let readers know who come here to see if this book is worth reading. The answer is yes. I have just recently pulled Torn down to fix the mistakes that I made when writing the book. I was eager to publish and thought, at the time, that it was ready. Torn is now back up for purchase with new and better editing. If you read this very personal story, I hope you like and appreciate it.
This book didn't work for me, or should I say the writing style (so much telling) and head hopping.
I picked this book up as a freebie, not realising I'd already tried to read another book by this author. The kindest thing I can do for both of us is to not pick up another.
Trigger warnings - domestic violence and rape (both MF)
For a newer writer Char Dafoe has a talent for creating deep and deeply troubled characters. This book is no exception. It is very raw in the writing and content but that is what makes it, what hits you deeply. It would have earned 5 starts but there are some errors that need to be fixed but that is not uncommon in indie authors. The raw talent and the emotions conveyed in the story overshadow any typographical errors.
Hannah has a boyfriend Jeremy. The characters in this book were fantastic.Rae was a very edgy person and was the leader of her gang the angels. The plot is good and the story is well written. There was plenty of emotion both good and bad. I really Like this book and the edginess of it.
After reading both Kitten books, I of course had to read this one. It really tugs at your emotions, and is a great story of trial and tribulation. Another home run for Char!
