A street drug in LA known as GLYTR is killing humans. Hattie's maker informs her that paranormals in Nowhere are using. Medical examiner Hattie Silverthorne heads to the paranormal community one she hasn't stepped foot in, in over ten years and for good reason. The chance of researching an outbreak proves to be a tempting fruit.
Hattie arrives at night with her personal assistant, Ben (human), and Mr. Figgles, their Shih Tzu. Things are about to get crazy when her Maker towing a newly made vampire, and a fellow medical examiner looking to make his mark. Hattie is prepared to deal but can she handle the local sheriff? He is a sexy shifter who also happens to be Hattie's soul mate? One the vampire council forbid her to see....yep. All in the name of science and research?
I loved the different characters. Hattie is snarky, smart and fearless. Sure Ben feeds her, but you can tell these two form a family with their canine friend. Her maker, townfolk and the sexy sheriff added to the tale. While some felt cliche' their interactions felt genuine as did their motives.
The Undead Detective Bites is a fast-paced tale offering a simplistic world that delivered a mix of humor, mystery, and a touch of romance. It's just how you would expect a paranormal cozy to be. Think early Danielle Garrett. The tale ended with a cliffhanger but they solved the actual case. I will pick up the next one when it releases. I am curious to see how the story progresses. Had me laughing and on the edge of my seat!!!
Loved this book!!!!! I can't wait for the next one!!! The characters are so much fun !! I love the diversity of each one of them !!! I read this book so fast because once you start you just can't stop!!! It has everything murder , Love, comedy it just has it all !!! It's a must read!!!

Silverthorne is a fantastic character who is a vampire and a ME. The characters were all so well developed with a great storyline filled with action and mystery. Silverthorne is investigating a new drug and goes to Nowhere to see how it affects paranormals and runs into her maker. Secondary characters are also well developed and likeable. There is Ben who is her consort and their dog Mr. Figgles. Fang the sheriff who is a wolf. Loved it an can't wait for the next book.

Urban fantasy fun!
I couldn’t wait to read this after finishing the prequel, The Undead Detective. This book takes our main character, Hattie Silverthorne (an amusingly snarky medical examiner who happens to be a vampire), her human personal assistant, Ben, and their delightfully spoiled Shih Tzu, Mr. Figgles, to a paranormal community in the town of Nowhere. Silverthorne goes there at the request of her maker to address the potential problems of a newly introduced recreational drug. True to form, Jennifer Hilt, maintains her “never a dull moment” method of story-telling by allowing an avalanche of misfortune to befall our main characters so that a potentially dry epidemiological study now encompasses multiple murders, revenge, kidnapping, and a fire. This book has it all: mystery, action, forbidden love and a number of greatly diverse characters including, shifters, witches, vampires, demons, and more that each add their unique contribution to the evolution of this fast-paced story.
There is language that some may find off-putting, but it isn’t excessive. There are no truly graphic sex scenes. There are some grammatical and punctuation errors, but I had no trouble overlooking them as I found the unfolding plotline so engrossing and entertaining. I am not a fan of cliffhanger endings and this book does have one, but I will qualify that by saying that it is not the type of cliffhanger where you are left in mid-action. There is an unresolved issue that involves a major character and I would have preferred that to have been handled differently but it did not diminish my enjoyment of this book. Overall, can’t wait for more.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I change my mind on a series, so want to change my scoring by more than 0.50 of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
The only character I actually liked was the dog.
It started off well enough and was an interesting enough premise but I just didn't care about anyone (but the dog).

What a combination; a vampire who happens to be a medical examiner. After centuries of not always being on her best behavior, Silverthorne is now on the side the good guys. When a street drug causes problems for the paranormals, she finds herself knee dip in tracking the killer. With her psychotic vampire maker back in town along with her sumo wrestling sibling, she certainly has her hands full.
While reading this book, I kept on thinking how this would make a great television series alongside the X-files and Twin Peaks. The characters were quirky (Ben and the delightful dog Mr. Figgles) and imaginative (Fang the wolf sheriff), there were a few LOL moments, but mostly it was filled with mystery and suspense. I enjoyed the storyline which had many twists and turns, and cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I’ve never read this author before and was anxious to dive in. What I found once I did was that this book was fun, and I’d like to get to know the protagonist and the other characters more. I really liked her “human” Ben and her maker (I love vampires that are really young because I find them good, creepy villains). In fact, the characters are probably what made the book for me. There were a couple minor things I was a little bothered by. First, sometimes it seemed the sentences were a little simple. It made a few parts have a cadence that threw me off. Second, for trying to solve a mystery, Silverthorne really didn’t do much detecting; she kinda just fell into all the clues. Even with these two things (and they were very minor), I did like this book and will pick up this second. Recommend this one.

This was a good book and kept me interested. I identified with Silverthorne, despite her iron clad insistence of staying aloof and unemotional. She was an intriguing protagonist and the other characters were almost as interesting as she is and some of them were much more memorable (a dumb, puppy-like, sumo-wrestling attired new vampire and a child-like sadistic vampire creator 😄) and would be the main reason I continued the series.
The writing was on point and the humor/sarcasm is my favorite part of the book.

A vampire detective in a world of paranormals, in love with a shifter, which is, of course, not allowed, along with her human muse. The story was slow, this particular vampire was self absorbed and dull. The saving grace, was the deliciously evil child vampire and even she was tedious in spots. The ending was basically a cliffhanger, although not one that makes you crave the next book. An ok read.

I love reading about vampires and the fact that she is a detective is a definate plus. I was taken with this book before the first chapter was barely started and it kept me interested threw the whole story. I loved it and I highly recommend this story to all who love vampires and detectives, and if you but this story you will not regret it at all.

I am really excited about this new series. Our main character is a vampire physican and researcher. I loved Nowhere. That is a perfect place for paranormals. Fang is terrific and Ben is wonderful. All of the characters are unique in their personalities. Witches, shifters, demons, ghouls and, of course, vampires. Elsbeth is the scariest out of them all. Oh yes, don't forget Mr. Figgles who will sleep anywhere. I am excited and look forward to more of our Undead Detective.

A drug is having terrible effects on the supernatural and she needs to return to the one place she never wanted to go back to. She has a few suspects including an ex. Can she work her way through the clues? Will she find the truth? See if she will

I couldn't put this one down once I started it. It had everything I love about the UF genre from vamps, shifters, snarky female MC, and a wonderful mystery that had so many twists and turns it kept me guessing until the end. There was even a cute canine side-kick that I loved. This is definitely one series that I hope lasts for a long time.

4.6 stars! Book 1 of The Undead Detective Bites is terrific.
A fun read with adorable characters and some not so much. The story moves along at a nice quick pace and there are more twists and turns in this book compared to the introductory book. You will enjoy this series because what's not to like? A snarky vampire is always entertaining! Enjoy!

Supernatural
Good read lots of action and mystery,magic and the interaction between the characters and storyline is great. Supernaturals out in the open with you is awesome and the complex twists keep you guessing.

Undead one
I really wanted to like this book but I just didn't. I made it halfway thru then skipped to the ending. Just seemed too long and I didn't care for the characters.

The book title is deceptive. She is not a detective but a doctor. A new drug has hit the streets and both humans and paranormals are affected. She goes to Nevada to try to solve the problem.
