Author Kasey Montgomery has returned to her hometown of Fire Creek, Montana after the apparent suicide of her cousin. Within days of Beth's funeral, Kasey begins to find inconsistencies in her death. The local sheriff is quick to dismiss the allegations as figments of a writer's imagination. Kasey, going against her grandfather's wishes, is determined to prove otherwise. Single father, and local park ranger, Jimmy Little Raven suspects Kasey may be on to something. His best friend was engaged to Beth and he too died a suspicious death. He's been around the area long enough to know things aren't always as they seem. After Kasey and Jimmy compare notes, they come to the conclusion that something sinister is going down in Fire Creek, and that knowledge could place their lives in peril also.

“Fire Creek” by Anne Patrick was a very intriguing book. I was caught from the beginning of the story. There was just the right amount of romance, suspense and tension to keep me reading until I finished the book. The characters were so believable that I felt I was there myself. Kasey comes back to Fire Creek, Montana to bury her beloved cousin, who committed suicide. Apart from the fact that Kasey is a mystery writer who probably sees a story behind every occurrence, she does not believe that Beth took her own life over the death of her fiancé, Lewis Gray Feather. His good friend, Jimmy Little Raven doesn’t believe that Lewis died the way it was portrayed either. Something sinister is going down in Fire Creek. After Kasey and Jimmy compare notes, they come to the conclusion that they need to investigate further. Of course, this only puts their lives in peril also. This story was so wonderfully written that it pulled me into it from the start to the end. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a short, intense mystery.
I received a free print copy of this book for my honest review from the publisher. The opinions expressed here are my own. You can read my reviews on my blog at: http://wp.me/p2pjIt-3h
Kasey was known as a world’s finest mystery writer. Now attending the funeral of her cousin, they were more like sisters. Suicide after the death of her fiancé , killed while mountain climbing. Another friend is questioning it, even an expert as he was wouldn’t climb Copper Bluffs alone. Why would the land be given to someone white that wanted it for a casino, instead of staying with the Indian tribe people, now that Lewis was dead. Jimmy and Kasey compare notes, and with murder, land now is available for a casino. What is in the envelope she found in the trunk, was Beth onto something. Soon their lives are in jeopardy. Her story catches you from the first, and you have questions, that you also want the answers. The book is rich with Indian heritage, that I enjoyed. Her books are always a good mystery, with a touch of romance, friends and family.
