This book is a great example of the beauty of indie publishing. We readers have access to new authors and literary gems we likely would never have seen through traditional publishing. Yes, just like in love there are a lot of toads we have to kiss, or read, before we find our handsome prince of a book, but have no doubt, this one absolutely falls in the royal category. The plot is intriguing and unique, and the writing is heart felt and compelling, making this work shine and sparkle in an otherwise amphibian-crowded pond.
Kase and his sweetheart shared their first kiss at age thirteen, dated all through high school and knew they would spend the rest of their lives together. As all too often happens, fate had other plans. While Kase is away at boot camp, his girl has a car accident that results in amnesia, leaving her with no memories of her past, including Kase. Ten years later Kase has retired from active duty, and is working private security. On his first night out with co-workers, his waitress turns out to be his first love.
The early copy I read of this book is my first by this author, and it certainly won't be my last. She’s definitely one to keep an eye on because her passion and conscientiousness come through loud and clear, and I fully expect each new work of hers will be better than the last. Although, having said that, I’m not sure if it’s possible to top this book because it was pretty darn perfect. I connected with these complex and loveable characters early on, and there were many twists, turns and surprises that kept me up all night reading, eager to discover how everything would work out.
I don’t know if the author has plans to make this book into a series, but the secondary characters were so well written, engaging and realistic that they could each have their own book, and I’m really not ready to let them go. While this book has plenty of intensity and drama, it didn’t feel overly angsty, and the adrenalin-fueled emotions are balanced with humor, steam and heart. Between the amazing plot and storyline and the terrific, captivating characters, this book is definitely worth losing sleep over, so grab your copy and ready yourself to fall in love with Kase, his true love, and all of these phenomenal characters.
