"Konkoly merges the best of the techno-thriller and post-apocalyptic genres in a sleek, relentlessly paced survival epic." - Amazon review of The Perseid Collapse
America is on the verge of an unthinkable attack--and nothing can prevent it. From the wind swept plains of western China to a sleepy island off the coast of Maine, RED DRAGON sets the stage for one of the original post-apocalyptic survival series. First published in 2013, The Perseid Collapse series "set the standard for the genre."
"In Steve Konkoly's world, just when things seem to be getting back to normal, you can bet that the roller coaster is just about to crest the giant drop that will take you around blind turns and through breathtaking loops. Your stomach will be in knots, but you will want more!" - Amazon review ofThe Perseid Collapse
Steven graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1993, receiving a bachelor of science in English literature. He served the next eight years on active duty, traveling the world as a naval officer assigned to various Navy and Marine Corps units. His extensive journey spanned the globe, including a two-year tour of duty in Japan and travel to more than twenty countries throughout Asia and the Middle East.
From enforcing United Nations sanctions against Iraq as a maritime boarding officer in the Arabian Gulf, to directing aircraft bombing runs and naval gunfire strikes as a Forward Air Controller (FAC) assigned to a specialized Marine Corps unit, Steven's "in-house" experience with a wide range of regular and elite military units brings a unique authenticity to his thrillers.
He still wakes up at "zero dark thirty" to write for most of the day. When "off duty," he spends as much time as possible outdoors or travelling with his family--and dog.
Steven is the bestselling author of ten novels and several novellas, including a commissioned trilogy of novellas based on the popular Wayward Pines series. His canon of work includes the popular Black Flagged Series, a gritty, no-holds barred covert operations and espionage saga; The Perseid Collapse series, a post-apocalyptic thriller epic chronicling the events surrounding an inconceivable attack on the United States; and The Fractured State series, a near future, dystopian thriller trilogy set in the drought ravaged southwest

A precursor to the Perseid series. An EMP has struck the eastern seaboard. Power of any kind, electricity or any thing from any power source is down. Chaos will shortly ensue. This is the start of a magnificent series by Steven Konkoly. I highly recommend the Perseid series.
It was good but I feel like I would have gotten more out of it if I had read the previous series by this author as they referenced events from it. I would have better insight into the characters as well. But overall, it was a good read.
Alex Fletcher and his family are on their last vacation of the summer. It’s a family tradition that entails watching the Perseid meteor show. Little did they know that they were going to be in for much more.
Konkoly’s novella prequel to The Perseid Collapse Series, Red Dragon: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller is the perfect introduction to the series. This apocalyptic tale presents to you the actions happening prior to and the beginning of the “event”.
The emotions ranging from desperation to resignation are hard to ignore. It’s a short, fast read that piques your interest immediately. As always, Konkoly delivers!

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was just OK for me, so I will only rate it at 4/5 stars.

A very good prequel to the Perseid Collapse series. Let's you know how it all started and why and who the players are going to be. It focused on one very brave college freshman, who hasn't even had his first class yet, who also just happened to have been trained by his slightly paranoid father for extreme survival. Thank God for that, he says to himself as he works his way out of a crumbling building to find his girlfriend and his family in the aftermath of some yet unknown destructive force that killed all the power everywhere that he can tell. Very powerful. Makes you want to continue reading!
This relatively quick read is comprised of purposefully picked chapters from various books of the Perseid Collapse series.
Having read the whole series a few years back, I wondered what chapters Mr. Konkoly would pick and how he would organize them. I think he did a wonderful job in setting the overall stage of what is a four-book series set years after The Jakarta Pandemic (prequel novel).
If you are not sensitive to violence and/or adult language and want to get a taste for Steven Konkoly's Post-Apocalyptic world then this is the book for you.
A tight short fast-paced prequel to a series about the aftermath of a devastating nuclear attack on the US by the Chinese. The Chinese for reasons are not explained launch a series of nukes at the US hitting a number of East Coast Cities, including Boston. The story centers around a group of Boston University students dealing with the aftermath. The attack came out of the blue one morning.
the prequel does what it should do, get one excited to read the rest of the story. well done. I'd recommend it.
A prequel to the apocalyptic book series the persied collapse
I have read the first book in the series. I do like that a prequel to the book has been put out there. I'm one of those who asks questions when reading and end of the world event. I truly have enjoyed what I have read of this series so far.
A peaceful day for many across the nation ends in a huge flash in the sky. What is it and what caused it is unknown. We need to find our loved ones and try to survive
Short but fun read. An introduction to the Perseid Collapse series that filled some of the gaps for me. I especially liked seeing what happened at the beginning in Boston.
It took me a while to get hooked, but after that, it was great. It isn't my favorite Konkoly book, but it's short and necessary to understanding the rest of the books.
Was reading the whole box set, didn't realize this was a precursor novella in between the Jakarta Pandemic and the Collapse. Explains why we haven't heard anything further from this point of view.

Steven Konkoly is fantastic at keeping the reader on the edge of suspense and always wanting more. You'll never go wrong with reading any of his books.
I enjoyed it and will definitely read the series, but the ending was extremely abrupt. More like the first chapter of the book than a separate novella.
Incredible novella that begins The Perseid apocalypse tales. Ryan was dropped off at college for his freshman year. Chaos ensued with what must have been a nuclear bomb attack. Excellent editing. Sounds like an amazing story.
A more realistic scenario than most. A page turner in a genre (post-apocalyptic) that I normally avoid but it was a free novella copy from the author and therefore a great idea! I want more of a series i would have missed out on.
