Nestled in the Mountains of Montana, in Eagle Rock, is the western branch of the Courage and Confidence Center for Women, aka the Three C’s Ranch, where women who’ve been attacked go to learn skills to survive and thrive. Barrett Williams, former Green Beret and Brotherhood Protector, is lead self-defense instructor at the center. He doesn’t intend to fall for the delicate beauty in his class who fights hard to be as strong in body as she is in spirit. Chyna Taylor rides the bus line from Cincinnati to Eagle Rock, changing her appearance to avoid being recognized. She wishes she wasn’t small boned and easily overpowered. Before her ex lost it and put her in the hospital, she’d never fought. She swore never to be a victim again. Determined to learn to thrive at the center, she doesn’t plan to fall for the big, strong man who is her instructor. Neither realizes they have little time to get her ready for the fight of her life.

This is a good book that brings spousal abuse in the forefront. Chyna Taylor’s husband beat her up one night and put her in the hospital. She knew then that she needed to get away from him before he kills her. She goes to a woman’s shelter to stay and finds out about a private ranch in Montana that teaches abused women how to defend themselves and has a counselor on sight at all times. She works hard to be accepted into the program, is accepted, and takes a bus from Cincinnati to Eagle Rock, Montana. Chyna goes by Chyna Lacey, her maiden name since she is divorced from her husband. It was interesting all the caution the organization took in getting the women out to the home in the middle of nowhere. Barrett Williams is one of the instructors from the Brotherhood Protectors who is teaching the ladies self defense. He is attracted to Chyna even though it is against the rules. He does his best to keep everything professional. Chyna feels safe around the handsome man. The story is so interesting, and I encourage you to read the book. It helped me to understand there are programs that can help abused women. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
Defensive Instructor ( Brotherhood Protector) by Debra Parmley. This book will keep you up way past your bedroom time, turning the pages to see how this all turns out. On her way to the Western branch of Courage and Confidence Center, the Three C's Ranch Chyna must disguise herself so no one will recognized her. She must not be found by her ex-husband or his cousins. She will either be dead or worse! Barret Williams is a member of the Brotherhood Protector Bodygaurd team and is teaching self-defense at the Center. He wants to empower these women so what happen to his cousin doesn't happen to any of these women. But, when danger comes to the Three C's Ranch will Barret and fellow team mate be able to stop the mad men attacking the ranch so that Barnet will have a chance with the woman he is coming to love...Chyna. Debra Prambley always tells a story that keeps you rivet to the book until the very last word.
Defensive Instructor by Debra Parmley The Brotherhood Protection service is helping those at the ranch protect themselves by learning how to, by actually doing the activities. Chyna is also at the Triple C ranch after being abused and hopes to find protection and we learn how she got to the ranch and those that crossed her path. Like hearing of the procedures of admittence to the center-very fair. Love how the program is laid out for those taking part it in. I know myself I might need to do such training because if my spouse dies I will be very vulnerable. Love the awaremenss part as I am blind and am aware but could improve and this book is doing that for me. The men are not there to rescue them and take them away. Chyna has a secret crush on Barrett and daydreams about him. He wishes he had met her outside of the ranch under different circumstances. Like the activities they are trained to do-often thought about learning how to shoot a gun myself. They attempt to learn things each like as they spend time together at the ranch, during programs. Like different phrases that got me looking up more information about them-gas lighting. Story also follows her ex husband as he tracks her whereabouts down and he will capture her to get what he wants... Like technology used.. So emotional reading this-tears in my eyes as he's found her but her training has come into action... Love style of this author's writings, this is one not to put down til the very end. She makes you feel as if it's all happening to you. Didn't see the ending happening like it did, WOW. Twists and turns and romance, so detailed. Domestic abuse help is listed at the end. Other works by the author are highlighted at the end. I received this review book from the author and this is my honest opinion.
Chyna is recovering from being an abused wife but is still fearful that her ex will come after her. Chyna is lucky to get into the Three C's Ranch where they help women learn to defend themselves and start over. Despite knowing that there shouldn't be, Chyna and the self defense instructor Barrett are attracted to each other. After two weeks of training, Chyna has to go to town to pick up some after sun burn cream. While in town, her ex Finn tries to grab her. Chyna acting on her training fights back and gets away. Later Finn and his three cousins try to attack the Ranch to get at Chyna. The Brotherhood Protectors are there and kill the four attackers after they attack with lethal force. Barrett to follow the rules quits being the defense instructor when Chyna asks him to so they can get to know each other better. Chyna goes from scared to being empowered and willing to fight for herself.
Chyna was traveling from Cinannati to Wyoming to a secret shelter for abused women. Barrett was there as an instructor to teach them self defense. He had to watch how he trained them so there wouldn't be any triggers. Her ex is out to find her and bring her back one way or the other. Found some spelling errors. The story was pretty good, most of the action was toward the end of the book.
This was a book that I won for participating in a CM Wright's Author Services online event. Not the genre I normally read, but I enjoyed it. The characters were likeable and relatable, the pacing was good, and the ending gives the reader appropriate payoff.
As a martini arts instructor, I found the description of the classes to be believable.
I would have liked to have seen more of the relationships between the women at the center and between the Brotherhood men, but the book's brief length - 139 pages or so - left little room for a deeper look into these elements.
The antagonist's single-minded obsession with Chyna is different from the more nuanced antagonists I read about in my normal fare, but the truth is that people like this really do exist, making him the perfect villain for this story.
There were only a few typos, and nothing egregious, and the grammar was good overall.
Surprise indeed - a story about domestic violence that can make you smile. From tradgy to triumph that we woman soar!
Chyna is a petite woman that her husband under estimated. He may have abused her and try to kill her but she learned fighting for her self will give her the freedom to reach for a future.Domestic violence is horrific and anyone can be scammed into believing they are "good" until you wake up and she the ugly truth. This book recommended for all newly dating, see flags, he aware and how to escape is critical. The surprise a story of domestic violence can have you smile and cherish a survivor start over and see her dreams come true. Barrett gets to teach self defense to women that can use it to protect themselves s physically and heal emotionally. A moving story so well written. Violence 3 sex2

Although this is a sensitive subject, domestic abuse is very real. Thank you for touching on this subject, maybe someone who reads this story will take something away from it that will help them or someone they know. Physical abuse is only one of the many ways one person can abuse another. Domestic violence is not only a crime perpetrated against women, men suffer it also. Please know that there are resources out there to help. It's not always easy to make the decision to seek help, certainly not easy to find a way to get away from the abuser to get help. Have courage and stay strong, you can do this!
Women determined not to be victims anymore, but warriors who can fight back. This out of way ranch is a sanctuary for abused women. The men from the Security firm are teaching them self defense moves. I really enjoyed the concept as well as the characters. Despite the story line it wasn't gloom and doom, romance was blossoming. Plenty of action towards the end of the story wrapped it up nicely. I enjoyed it and look forward to looking to discovering more by this author.
This particular story is about a special haven for abused women and how they are trained to protect themselves in the outside world. Their trainers are volunteers from the Brotherhood Protectors. Although each women at this shelter has her own story, this particular story is about one woman's ex husband and his three cousins who managed to find her and come to terrorize the shelter.
Very enjoyable! I liked the story and the characters, and I also found that I liked that this one focused more on the recovery than action. I would have loved an epilogue! Also, there was some formatting errors and typos that bother me a bit (they spelled the heroine's name wrong once, which was hard for me to get past) but I will admit that I have definitely seen worse.
Chyna divorced her husband Finn, when he beat her so bad that she had to go to the hospital. Finn refused to believe that they were really divorced. Chyna made plans to go to the ranch and start her life over. Barret was the Defensive instructor. He noticed her at the first class. She was a little tiny thing.
This book seems a bit different from the other Brotherhood Protectors books. There is more about the past and the way it affected the abused women. Very insightful and interesting. The action scenes and romance are at the end. Very entertaining!!
I received this book as a gift. This is the second book of Mrs. Parmley’s that I have read in the Brotherhood Protector series. In this tale, we are introduced to the Three Cs Ranch, a place that was specifically built out in the middle of nowhere (literally) to shelter abused women and teach them skills to defend themselves. We are introduced to Barrett who is the defense instructor and from the description he’s quite the looker. The first client to arrive at the Three Cs is Chyna Taylor. Chyna has escaped from Phineas (Finn) her abusive ex and is one of the first of a group of women to be housed at the Three Cs. She is joined later by seven others, all with varying backgrounds, but one common theme - their abuse. They are learning to process their feelings with the help of Leah, the resident counselor, and they are also learning self-defense, taught by Barrett. Naturally, there is some powerful attraction between Barrett and one of the eight ladies, which is against the rules of the Three Cs. As remote as this location is in Montana, it’s not quite remote enough. What I am enjoying, so far, about this series is that they are short novellas that can be read in a few hours, perfect for those folks who are traveling or just do not have time for a longer book, or even someone who is waiting during appointments. There is enough action to keep the reader interested. What I also enjoy is that there is enough heat, enough attraction between the two people involved so as not to be overly in your face, but you know it’s there.
Chyna Lacey was very lucky to get accepted into the program at Triple C Ranch. In spite of everything she's done to cover her tracks, she's convinced her ex is going to find her. When that day comes, she wants to be ready to escape him.
Barrett Williams volunteered right away to be the defensive instructor for Triple C Ranch. He wants nothing more than to help these women learn to protect themselves. What he didn't expect is the attraction he feels for one of the women. Chyna is a very attractive, petite blonde and his instincts are to protect her, but that's not why they're here.
As we learn more about Chyna and the other women here at the Triple C, we also get to see how Barrett will lead the training. As Chyna learns, she also finds herself attracted to Barrett, something she never expected to feel again. She knows it's not the time or place and she struggles not to show it.
The training is targeted to meet the needs of the women without triggering them.
While Chyna has always been sure her ex would find her, she didn't expect it to be here in Montana.
The thing is the center didn't expect any issues either, since they are so remote. and certain security updates were put off or denied.
I love the whole concept of the Triple C Ranch and how these women put their all into learning to be safe.
The romance while forbidden by the rules, is stronger than those involved and made me laugh out loud when they give in.
Plenty of suspense, some action and the perfect amount of sizzle.
After getting out of the hospital from abuse received at the hands of her husband, Chyna Lacey divorced him, repaired and sold the home he set on fire and went to hide at a women’s shelter in Cincinnati. Phineas (Finn) Taylor didn’t believe in divorce and was intent on finding and bringing her back home. From the shelter, she was able to get into a program for abused women in Montana. The Brotherhood Protectors were in charge of teaching women to defend themselves while in the program at the Three C’s Ranch. It was a challenge but eventually Chyna was able to learn a few defensive skills with a lot of patience from her instructor Barrett which she secretly admired. She was starting to feel secure after several weeks and didn’t think anything of it when she needed to make a trip to the store alone. Unfortunately Finn was closing in on her and happened to see her leaving the store but she was able to get away after she executed a few unexpected defensive moves. Barrett took it upon himself to look after Chyna personally to keep her safe but with Finn on the move, he doesn’t have to wait long for him to strike again. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This book has triggers for domestic abuse and fire starters so be aware.
Chyna is hoping all the cloak and dagger stuff will be worth it. She knows she is lucky to get the chance to be at the Three C's Ranch, is willing to work hard and get the confidence to move forward. However, as much as she feels safe there is always the chance her abusive ex will track her down. With the defensive training from Barrett she’s doing well. It’s the extra connection she feels to him that is making her believe there are better things ahead of her. Unfortunately her ex is not going to give up, and it will take the help of the Brotherhood Protectors, and new friends to help this pair towards their HEA. Another great book added to the Brotherhood Protectors stable, with plenty of feel good, and action as you would expect. I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
As a survivor of domestic and other violence who got into martial arts as a result, it took me 3 tries to read this book because it hit so close to home. (That’s a good thing.) This is the kind of training you wish you could find in the wake of abuse from the one who says he loves you. I’ve known too many males with the mindset of the antagonist and his family. Seeing it across the page like that…that’s it.
The unintentional pages of italics toward the end distracted me from all the action of the climax, but the…ending made me wish this book was twice as thick so we could dive so much deeper into this dream setting, this dream hunk, this blossoming little badass survivor, and who they will become from knowing each other.
I love the Brotherhood Protecters but unfortunately not this novella. I felt everything was just so-so. The charecters was two dimensional. You had the supposed bad guy but he was really not that smart. He had his bad family but they were weak wanna be hoods. You had the victim. She was just.....weak. The hero? Again, he was there but not much to do with him. The book just felt like the writer just took a week, wrote out the scenario and just slapped the names and a few drama with no real suspense. I would try this author but with her own story and charecters to see if they would have more dimensions because it was her story.
I tried to like the book, good story, but it was undeveloped. There were plot holes that weren’t quite filled in and most of it read more like a first draft than a published story.
It was a good book, but I was hoping for a little more ump due to the title. I think that the women in this book acted more like sissies than traumatized like you would be if you had been hurt like that.
I loved this book. Story of abused women who get help putting their life back together. Quick read, but it holds your attention from the start. I hope there is more to come. Great characters that pull you in. I was given a copy of this book and I voluntarily leave this review.
