A RESOURCE FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS AND SMALL GROUPS “Sometimes, we treat graduation like it’s the finish line. But the real-world race goes on and you’re running in it whether you want to or not. After you’ve had enough graduation-cap sentimentality, Gerald’s book should be the next thing you read so you’ll be ready for where your next steps will take you.” REGGIE JOINER - CEO/Founder, The reThink Group “As I looked through Before You Go, I kept thinking of teenagers I want to read this book now or in the future when they graduate from high school. My own kids are at the top of that list. I'm confident you're going to have the same urge to get this book to every high school senior or college freshman you know.” KARA POWELL - PhD, Executive Director of the Fuller Youth Institute and co-author of Growing Young “This book is profoundly practical, wonderfully helpful, super interesting, and deeply rooted in Gerald’s own personal story.” CLAY SCROGGINS - Lead Pastor of North Point Community Church and author of How to Lead When Youʼre Not in Charge Life is constantly changing, and with every new season comes a new set of challenges. As you prepare to leave high school behind and move into a new season of college and “adulting,” this book will serve as a guide to help you maintain and grow your faith in college. In the pages of this short book you’ll find letters from college freshman, 10 ideas that will help prepare you for what’s ahead, and questions to help you process and apply what you’ve read.
I would love to see our high school seniors work through this as a life group. There’s solid info and the questions/workspace provided allows students to reflect and write, taking ownership of their faith, process what they’ll be faced with and the opportunities available. I think it’s a great tool to give guidance and helps students really be intentional as they move forward to college. Thank you, Gerald!!
As a youth pastor I think this is a great read for those transitioning from high school to college, trade school or whatever is next. Gerald covers some very important and relevant topics for that group of people in a very creative way, with letters from students to students. And then he expands on them from there. I will definitely consider giving these to the seniors in my youth group when they graduate high school. It would be a unique, practical and thoughtful gift.
This is not a bad book. My rating definitely seems to say otherwise. This is a good book for maybe new Christians, but not a good book for high schoolers who have been following Jesus for some time now and are going into college. It’s a super short read, which is nice, but not a lot of substance for a follower of Christ who really wants to be the light of the world when they step into college.

I loved this book. My youth pastor gave it to me as a gift at the end of my senior year. It has great advice and I loved reading the letters from actual college students. I also loved the interactiveness of it where it asked questions and I got to write my responses in it. A very good book for going away to college and keeping your faith while you’re there.
A really solid read for high school Christians to read before going to college, and a helpful read for leaders of high schoolers as to how to help guide kiddos from where they are to where they’re going, both in college and at church. Honestly, I wish I read some of these chapters before I went to college. Highly recommend!
If you're a high school graduate preparing for college, I would highly encourage you to read this! Because of this book, I've felt a lot less scared and nervous about going to college, and it has made me feel closer to God since I personally wasn't as close to Him as I am. Anyways, go give this a read, you can thank me later :)
