I received a copy of Snatch Girl by L J. Kane from Goodreads for my honest review. This book is about a kidnapping of a young girl. This was a fast paced thriller and I did like that part of the book but there were things I didn't like as well. I didn't realize that there was very adult content in this book, which I am not partial to. The content was a bit extreme for me and I struggled with the relationship that Ellie had with one of the kidnappers, Darren. I was so frustrated that Ellie had the type of interaction she did with Darren. There were a few other things that I was irritated with about things that happened but I don't want to spoil anything.

First things first, this book is for adults only and due to its content it may offend some of those.  The story, set on Dartmoor and Salisbury, is about the abduction of an 18-year-old girl who is subsequently raped and held captive for a ransom by two men.  Jon Braddon is sadistic and violent with the victim Ellie to the point that the get away driver, Darren Broderick decides enough is enough and goes on the run with her himself. Not that he is letting her go until the ransom for her is paid, if ever, but he is the lesser of the two evils.
Jon Braddon is a little bit jarred off, to say the least and so he becomes determined to get Ellie back and make her suffer that is after taking Darren out of the picture permanently. What follows are some very intense violent scenes between him, Darren and Ellie.
Besides the heavy stuff, this is a very gripping story where fear jumps put at every page, tension runs high and the thought of anyone making it to the final paragraph getting less as the story went on. It would make a really good film. One of those that you know that the bad guy is safely locked away to look again and see the door open. The OMG moments of the big screen. Well Jon Braddon is like that, no matter what you do he is always creeping up behind you. Really, really, tense!
I loved the descriptions of Dartmoor, it felt cold with falling snow an unforgiving, beautiful but harsh landscape, and as unpredictable as both Braddon and Ramsey. I really liked the plot and the setting but not Ellie’s reaction to Darren after what had occurred.

I was really looking forward to reading "Snatch Girl" by L.J. Kane however I found the book far too irritating. I know that Ellie was snatched but then the word Snatched was peppered far too much throughout the book "He snatched up the keys" "She snatched up the towel etc etc.... As for the Australian character, he added the word "beaut" to almost every sentence he uttered throughout the book.
With good editing this could have stepped up from the Mills and Boon type story and into a good psychological thriller. If it wasn't so violent and containing graphic sex then I would have thought I was reading a Young Adult book. A shame.

I received a promotional ebook of "Snatch Girl". This is definitely a thriller, extremely fast paced. Snatch Girl is a little more on the "50 Shades of Grey" than I prefer but gripping and hard to put down. Ellie is kidnapped right from the start and the action never stops. Her captor Braddon is savage and sadistic. He will never let her go and is always one step ahead of her. Her other captor, Darren, grabs Ellie and runs. Is she better off? Read to find out but give yourself time or an alarm if you have to be somewhere because it's not easy to stop. I was thinking it would make a great action movie but I don't think the cinematic images would be as intense as LJ Kane's writing.

Thrill a minute!

This very fast paced thriller never let up until the very end. She's abducted by a raging lunatic then abducted again and held for ransom while on the run from the lunatic. All you need is some scary music while you read and you'll sleep with one eye open for days.

Snatch girl by LJ Kane is a fast-paced psychological thriller that follows the kidnapping of eighteen-year old Ellie. Taken by a sadistic killer and his driver, Ellie is thrust into a living nightmare of torture, abuse, and mind games.

Kane’s novel is both explicit and visceral, a story that is bold, defiant, and compelling. An edgy thriller that takes the reader on a journey through the minds of a sadistic killer, his henchmen, and the victim who finds herself preyed on by both.

Kane doesn’t hold back with the graphic violence or sex in her novel which fits in well with the intensity of this style of thriller. Reminiscent of an episode of Criminal Minds, Snatch Girl doesn’t shy away from the uncomfortable or the stereotypical “damsel in distress/female victim, the sexual chemistry between victim and bad boy or the dark, unfeeling sadistic killer.”

Ellie is young, vulnerable, and naive, an easy victim. There are moments when we see her strength and survival instincts surface but for the most part she is reliant on the the bad boy to keep her safe. Darren Broderick plays that part well. A character that finds himself in a less than desirable life due to circumstance. A man that is cunning, and a survivor yet shows empathy for both Ellie and the situation he has helped put her in. Jon Braddon, on the other hand is sheer evil, a purposeful one-dimensional character that deftly plays the role of antagonist driving the action and anxiety in the story forward. A twisted triangle of characters each with a different motive defining the decisions they make.

Kane’s writing style is unique. Often the exposition reads like a screenplay setting up a scene. “The military boot smashed through the lower panel, the door splintering, Ellie screaming, cowering against the shower cubicle...” The staccato nature of the prose heightens the intensity adding to the overall dark atmosphere of the subject matter. While some readers may not respond to this stylized way of writing, I found it interesting and original. An offbeat way to express the author’s unique voice and create a fresh way to express the hallmarks of the genre.

Snatch Girl is a fast-paced, intense thrill ride through a strange game of cat and mouse. Perfect for book lovers whose genre tastes include books that are not afraid to push boundaries or portray the ugly side of humanity. Kane has delivered a compelling read by redefining “predator and prey.”

L.J. Kane drives up the suspense in Captor Captive! After being rescued from her kidnapper, Ellie discovers that the man who liberated her has ulterior motives. Now she must decide who she can trust as she attempts to survive the night. I really liked the set up of the novel with Ellie trapped between two kidnappers, and Kane’s writing really drives home the tension. Check out Captor Captive if you’re in the mood for a unique breed of thriller!

This book puts the "thrill" in the word thriller. This book is very intense and starts out that way from the first page with a gripping introduction. The suspense of what happens to Ellie stays through the entire book until the very end. It really keeps you on the edge of your seat, it's been a long time since I've picked up a thriller suspense novel, and this one was definitely worth it.

Snatch Girl is a fast-paced and intense thrill ride, but I was unable to get past the romanticized abuse that runs rampant throughout the story.

[Read more of Lauryn's Reviews at http://laurynapril.blogspot.com/]

This book is very graphic, which I don’t think is inappropriate for the themes involved, as this book is about a girl who’s kidnapped and abused as she’s used for leverage. However, the addition of a romantic subplot including graphic sex was, in my opinion, inappropriate for the content of the story. I do think Snatch Girl has a good story at its core, but it would have been better, more realistic and had a better message had all romantic involvement between Ellie and one of her kidnappers, Darren, not been there. Or, if he hadn’t assaulted her himself and their relationship had moved at a slower pace.

I liked watching Ellie fight. She was tough, especially in the first half of the book. She never missed an opportunity to try and escape and I found myself rooting for her. This really was an exciting read.

However, I didn’t like Darren. At all. Yes, Braddon is a far worse person than Darren. And yes, Darren “rescues” Ellie from Braddon, but there was absolutely nothing that I liked about who he was or anything he did that made me want to root for him. He could at any time have taken Ellie to a hospital or the police and saved her from further abuse, but he continues as her kidnapper until her ransom is paid.

From the very beginning, Darren is cold, cruel and abusive. He does have a sense of humor, but it’s not enough to make me him likable. He’s physically violent with Ellie, slapping her and punching her on multiple occasions. He “rescues” her from Braddon’s sadistic sexual torment, only to keep her captive himself as they run from Braddon who wants them both dead. He knows she’s been abused, yet he’s constantly leering at her and making sexual comments. Never does he show her genuine kindness or compassion. And yet, a romantic interest develops between him and Ellie.

This story had the potential to explore some very serious issues like rape and abuse. However, Ellie often does not act in a way would be typical of a young woman who’s been repeatedly drugged, raped, tortured and traumatized. I feel like this gives a poor portrayal of what its like to go through these experiences.

(Now I just want to comment here that I have not personally suffered from sexual abuse, however, I do have a BA in Psychology. I work in social services and have worked with victims of sexual assault.)

After suffering the extensive sexual abuse that Ellie goes through she should need time to regain confidence sexually. Rape and sexual assault can leave people deeply emotionally scarred often resulting in panic attacks, anxiety, and confusion when they’re faced with intimacy in the future. Ellie, however, seems not to experience these things after her trauma. While Ellie does make a number of comments about not wanting to be touched, or not wanting to undress in front of Darren (Yes, he makes her undress in front of him), her ogling of Darren’s chest, the bulge in his pants, and general good looks felt very out of place. As did the way she generally brushed off or laughed at his sexual innuendos, let him touch her, and described how he aroused and excited her.

At one point, Braddon nearly kills and sexually assaults Ellie mere hours before she’s shown eyeing up Darren, laughing at his incredibly inappropriate sexual innuendos, and later describing how she wants him. I think it’s an incredibly poor message to have her suffer sexual assault, nearly die and then have her discussing wanting to sleep with one of her kidnappers all within a matter of hours. Oh, and she has sex with Darren that same night.

Overall, there’s some good writing here. I rarely rate books 2 Stars because usually, the writing is so bad I can’t finish them and I won’t review something I haven’t finished. Snatch Girl is interesting and well edited. But, there are two stories here. 1. A traumatic thriller where a girl overcomes rape. Which would be a great story without the romance. 2. A romantic suspense where a guy helps a girl escape a kidnapping. Which could have been great had Ellie not been raped and abused. But, Snatch Girl tries to combines these two ideas into one and in that it fails.

MY RATING:

Was the writing/editing solid?

4/5 - This book was generally well written, edited and formatted. I did find a few typos, but nothing too distracting. However, I did feel like the beginning and end were a little rushed. There were often times I wanted more backstory.

Did the book have a well-formed plot/subplots?

2/5 - The basic structure of this book was done well, but the content was at times off-putting, to say the least, and the romance subplot was completely out of place.

Could you relate to the characters?

2/5 - I liked Ellie for the most part but I found she lacked believability regarding how she responded to the trauma she experienced, and I had a lot of issues with Darren being posed as a love interest.

Did the story make you feel?

1/5 - I was completely unable to be pulled into the romance between Ellie and Darren, and a lot of the sympathy I did have for Ellie was undermined by her lack of believability as a trauma victim.

Was the book unputdownable?

3/5 - Despite disliking much of the content, this was fast paced and did keep me on the edge of my seat. I read it pretty quickly.

A gripping read from start to finish and I honestly couldn’t put it down. It’s fast paced storyline has you hooked from the word go and you could literally feel the emotions of the three main characters Braddon, Darren and Ellie. A very adult content but that is explained at the beginning and certainly not for the faint hearted as it is pretty gruesome in parts. It is my kind of book though and I can not recommend this book highly enough to all the people who like this genre. And .... I’ve seen a pic of Darren!!!
L.J.Kane you have to open this up and continue the story because there is so much more to tell. Can’t wait for a sequel.
Not sure what I can read now to top this! #5stars

If you jump easily, this book is not for you! So many unexpected shocks, but it’ll keep you reading. Braddon will make you grateful he’s fictitious but still make your skin crawl. The detailed narrative is disturbing but fitting and it continues throughout. Take a deep breath and keep all the lights on!

This is a fast paced suspense that had me gripped from page 1 and wouldn't let me go until I'd finished it. I took my time because I didn't want to lose any of the story. Yes, the book has adult content but, for me, it didn't detract from the story. Pn the whole it is a fantastic read and I would welcome a sequel!!!

Ellie (18) had been kidnapped.
Salisbury, England. Jon Braddon (sadistic pedophile) had his ways with her.
Darren Broderick was his accomplice.
Darren had taken Ellie from the cellar. The 2 were on the lamb.
She tried to escape again but to no avail.
Jon finally caught up with the 2.

Darren managed to knock him out.
He put his body in the locked outhouse.
The problem was he was still alive.
Will Jon escape again?

Warning: This book is for adults only & contains extreme violent or graphic adult content or profanity &/or sexually explicit scenarios. It may be offensive to some readers.

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. Wow, a very well written horror book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great horror movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

This story is about a girl who is 18 years old who is kidnapped by a sexual pervert. But that isn't all. His accomplice Darren, helps break the girl out of the basement that Jon has her handcuffed in. Darren is the ex-boyfriend of the girl's older sister. There is a lot of violence, sex in the middle of this book, and most of it is hard to believe that anyone could get through that and still live. This is definitely a writing of fiction.

This book was just 'Ok' in my opinion. It was very predictable and didn't have any twists or surprises. There were only three main characters in the book, but the author did do a great job of developing them. Still, just an Ok read.

This book had good points and bad points. The good was the action. The writer left you on the seat of your pants about what would be happening next. Well written in that aspect.Where the story failed is that parts of the story weren't ever cleared up. Only hinted at why the main character was snatched but never full reason. Needed to explain about her family background better with the step father. The worst was the ending. It left nothing to sum the book up with the other main character. Decent book just needed more details and a better ending!!!!!
