Welcome to the Blackhaven Brides series bundle. This series is set in a newly fashionable spa town on the beautiful Cumbrian coast, where the great and the bad of visiting Regency society turn local life upside down. Passion, mystery, and scandal follow the citizens of this wealthy enclave.
This set includes:
The Wicked Baron - When Lord Wickenden makes innocent Gillie a shocking proposal, she never expects he will fight a duel over her – and everyone knows the wicked baron never misses.
The Wicked Lady - The scandalous widow finds the unusual curate of Blackhaven might just be the answer to all her prayers – and more than she can handle.
The Wicked Rebel - The life of gentle, sickly Lady Arabella changes forever when she tries to rescue a naked man apparently drowning at sea.
The Wicked Husband - Notorious young rakehell, Lord Daxton, wakes up in Blackhaven with a monumental hangover – and a wife.
Mary Lancaster is a USA Today bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance. She lives in Scotland with her husband, one of three grown-up kids, and a small dog with a big personality.
Her first literary love was historical fiction, a genre which she relishes mixing up with romance and adventure in her own writing. Several of her novels feature actual historical characters as diverse as Hungarian revolutionaries, medieval English outlaws, and a family of eternally rebellious royal Scots. To say nothing of Vlad the Impaler. Her most recent books are light fun Regency romances, with occasional forays into Victorian mystery.
I love this author. Exceptional writing, perfect editing, seamless stories with hysterically funny dialogue and authentic British accent and Regency customs, down to the mourning periods. An embarrassing number of American authors are churning out Regency novels and seem to be getting their misinformation from each other, so we have books with year-long mourning periods for parents (the year period was really only for husbands, extended to wives by courtesy, to ensure all pregnancies were out of the way before remarriage) and upper-class ladies successfully posing as maids (when a British accent reveals almost everything about a person's station in life and would unmask her as soon as she spoke) and dinner party attendees annoyed by the custom of ladies and gentlemen separating after supper (ahem -- dinner is the midday meal, even today) even though that custom provided time for ladies to make extended visits to the powder room, often a necessity after a seven course meal wearing a corset. Gentlemen had no need to know if ladies were pooping or needed to loosen their stays for half an hour so their food didn't come back up. Ladies appreciated the privacy. The resentment is contrived by authors who have no context for the customs. THIS author isn't one of them, and her books are pure delight. AND they're on Kindle Unlimited, at least for now -- these books are certainly good enough to pay for, and I rarely pay for books. I'm not cheap, I just read too much, several books a day at a minimum, so I just can't afford anything but KU or free Bookbub finds. I get so excited to find an author like this, it's like finding antique sterling silver spoons in with the loose flatware at Goodwill. Exciting. Discovering this author is even better. If you like Regency novels, select this set or the Heart series, you'll enjoy yourself. I burst out laughing several times during this book, and when certain lines come back to me from other books (“...INeligibility is the prime cause of elopements.”) These are wonderful books by a terrific author.
4 complete stories set in a town over a period of time. The 1st story set the scene well, introducing key characters, the town and the intrigue in their lives and the bases for all 4 books. I loved the level of angst in the 2nd story - The Wicked Lady. So many men judging the h, including her father who sold her to evil husband. She has been treated so cruelly by everyone, except the H who sees her and falls in love, just like that. One of the best Hs I've read in a long time.
Good humor and adventure romance spoiled with the graphic sexual encounter towards the end. I couldn't even finish the book and certainly won't be reading any of the rest in this series. It makes me sad. Useless descriptive copulation doesn't add anything to what could have been a fun , enjoyable tale
What a deal. The first 4 books are great, all taking place in a spa town very similar to Bath, called Blackhaven. All were wonderful containing everything you could desire in a Regency Romance: a disreputable hero (This the wicked titles) a distressed but strong heroine, a supportive town population and some very active villains. The plots were diverting and distinctive. Loved all four books and went ahead and purchased the rest of the series full price as this is a author I will be following from now on.
Includes: THE WICKED BARON THE WICKED LADY THE WICKED REBEL THE WICKED HUSBAND
Collections are tough to rate since the stories are inevitably uneven. I bought this after reading a Mary Lancaster's superb novella in The Stars are Brightly Shining. The first book in the collection disappointed me after the wonderful novella I'd read. It was merely so-so. The second more than made up for it. The Wicked Lady is a five star book with characters that haunted me after I finished. The third, The Wicket Rebel also grabbed me; it was almost as good. The fourth alas again disappointed. While the characters held my interest, the plot was a bit muddled. I would rate these four books individually at 3-5-5-3, but given how much i enjoyed the Wicked Lady, I'm giving the book a 5.
This is a boxed set so you get to know some of the characters which appear in the next book and usually appear frequently unlike in some series. This is a simple set of historical romances with just the right amount of sex without making it feel like porn. I sometimes find myself skimming through areas where the sex seems to take over the story so I can find out what happens next. The male characters also aren't cruel and very likeable throughout the story. I genuinely enjoyed every minute and already bought some more by this author. Enjoy!
I have never read this author so I was delighted to find these four novels. I devoured them, read one a day. I love a good recency and these are above the ordinary. The main characters are all a little unusual but very interesting and depicted with humor. I have just discovered the fifth in the series and an looking forward to at least another day in this lovely small town where a lot happens.
Each of these books has a strong, interesting heroine and an equally interesting hero to match. I particularly enjoyed the pithy wittyness of the protagonists' inner thought-scapes; and while the scenarios that they get into are a little outlandish and improbable they're great fun! The other interesting thing about these books is the well drawn ensemble characters, particularly the women who are delightfully complex characters.
I adored everything about all four books and Blackhaven! Charmingly wicked little place with lots of suspense, love, hate, duels and excellent brandy! The author has a superb and unusual writing style that thrilled me! I'll be sure to read more from her and hope there's more to come from Blackhaven!
I really enjoyed reading this box set. After finishing lone I started on the next. My houses is a mess but I just couldn't stop. The characters were so well written that I felt I knew them and when they visited the next book I felt we were old friends. This collection is well done
I have never read any books by this author before. I found myself utterly enthralled, the books were fun, hilarious, romantic. I look fwd to reading more from this author. Her style of writing keeps you wanting to keep reading and not putting the book down. You also got 4 books for the price of one. An excellent read and bargain.
With each new adventure I feel I'm getting to know the town, it's local characters, where people gather, appreciate the beautiful coastal scenic vistas & feel drawn into the fabric of this community. The characters are interesting, witty banter, unlikely couples & I could get lost in the beautiful coastal scenic vistas.
I loved this boxed set of the Blackhaven Brides books 1 - 4. It's a wonderfully entertaining read learning all about the people in the Blackhaven world and experiencing their romantic beginnings and paths to true love.
This was a charming series. I want to live in Blackhaven. I loved every character, even Jem. Ms. Lancaster is a good tale-teller. This is my first experience with this author, but not my last.
A romp around Blackhaven with four romances. Each different but connected to others in the town. Spunky women, flawed men and crazy circumstances. A lot of fun.
For the price and the number of books it was ok. I only really enjoyed book 1. After that I didn’t like the characters nor did I enjoy the rather obvious plot devices.
I just finished The first four books, and fell in one with them all. I love the history of them. Now on to the next one. Thank you for the enjoyment of them all. Ada. G.
I thoroughly enjoyed all four of these stories. I loved the town, the settings and the way the lives of the characters intersected. The characters were not perfect they had flaws which made them more real. I will definitely read more by this author.
Excellent stories that kept me enthralled all the way through. Romance at its best with jealousy, shootings, duels and much much more. Onto the next boxed set and further adventures.
This is a four books set of love, duels, empowerment and scandals. Blackhaven is a small village that is know for it's water and smuggling. You will met four women who will fight for love and win. Great story.
The first book of this set was good. Smuggling, spies, and romance. Gilly is a strong intelligent woman. The second book was a two rating. The third and were left unread.
