It’s been a long hard ride for Morgan and everyone. Just when things were starting to look up, the park was attacked, and they lost Bobbie. Danny’s physical wounds were nothing like the emotional loss of Bobbie. It was hard on Mel as well and the rest of the group also felt the loss. With the attacks on the community becoming a greater threat, they must be dealt with. These attacks must end. But what can the group do against an army with artillery? It’s been almost a year since, The Day, and Morgan is worried about his parents. It’s something that has been on his mind, often hidden or buried under the daily burden of his new reality. That worry is getting harder to ignore and something is going to have to be done so he can know, one way or another. Even with all the life-threatening issues, life must go on. The daily requirements of feeding everyone and dealing with the innumerable challenges that crop up must be addressed. And there’s Fred’s pregnancy. While a blessing, it presents serious risks to her, morning sickness is the least of her concerns. The only easy day in this new world, is yesterday.

Wow! Great book and great series but for Pete's sake don't quit now! Just after introducing so many new characters. Beef rancher Dave, Janet and Crystal. Plenty of story with them along with Mike and Ted. Not to mention Morgan's parents and them getting to be with their granddaughters again and a great potential for the friendship/professional experiences of Morgan's dad and Sarge. Would be good to see the russian colonel (lower case intentional) get his just desserts too. There is plenty of potential with Baker and someone. Perhaps Danny? And of course, Sarge still has to get married. The author is onto a gold mine of stories here! Don't leave us hanging. Please!!!

I loved this series. Unfortunately it just seems like the author got lazy and stopped caring. As an example in the first few books they catch a gator and cook it out at the cabins and then a few books later they've never had gator before. Another example is one characters name is Dylan but later in the books he's Dillon. It's just simple lazy things like this that make me upset with the way this series went.
Book 10 in THE SURVIVALIST series. An excellent continuation of the series. I look forward each time to the next book. This series, from the first novel, COMING HOME, tells a very compelling story of people, some who have SKILLS and some who do not, trying to survive in the aftermath of an event that renders all electronic devices non-functional and denies them the modern conveniences of public utilities. No electric power, no city water or sewer, quickly vanishing law enforcement and the violence that erupts when people, when an entire nation, is placed in a fight for basic survival.
The central character, Morgan, is a family man who has a 'country boy' attitude, meaning that he believes in knowing basic 'backwoods' skills. In the first book he is hundreds of miles from home on business when the SHTF and he has to make his way home. It follows Morgan on his trip, encountering people, good and bad, along the way. Making allies and enemies. The series follows a natural progression of trying to build a handful of people into a community and finding/developing the resources to survive and thrive while holding off the hoards who would steal, rape and murder for a can of beans.
The bit twist that adds to these is: was the EVENT a natural occurrence or was it man-made?
As the series unfolds, just when you think everything is getting straightened out, a new complication shows up and the struggle continues.
Overall, this is one of the best series I've ever read. Not only are the stories well told, the characters highly believable (no supermen here) and the action never stops. I can not recommend these HIGHLY ENOUGH.
Morgan Carter’s life in the new reality never seems to settle into a comfortable rhythm. Almost always something ominous is on the horizon. With the Russian and Cuban invasion advancing nearby death follows. Unless the military steps up their game Morgan’s group isn’t going to be much more effective than slingshots against a hurricane. Yet, there are still a few silver linings to be found.
American’s tenth novel in The Survivalist Series, Home Coming is a little more sedate than many of the previous books. Don’t get me wrong, there is still plenty of action. The feel is much more melancholy. The thrill of the fight seems to be subdued. I think it was supposed to be a feel-good story, but I didn’t get into that so much.
It is written somewhat different than the rest as part of it is told in the first person by Morgan. The switching back and forth within the same chapter takes a little to get used to. It was also a rather short book. I would have liked more.
**SPOILER ALERT** Some of the following commentary contains spoilers.
There were a couple of story arcs that went nowhere. The threat by those on the motorcycles was teased and then dropped. Lee Ann wanting to learn how to ride Jeff’s Harley never went anywhere. I’m hoping they are followed through in the next novel.
A ‘compare and contrast’ should to be discussed somewhere (a book club maybe?) about the mercy killings meted out in this book versus the killings of the unsustainables and undesirables in the companion series Charlie’s Requiem.
Ashley, aka Little Bit, discovers a baby squirrel and takes it on to raise as a pet. I find this very ironic since she probably shot its parents to add to the food needed by the group.
Overall, it was okay and probably a bridge to something greater.
I thought this was a great conclusion to the series. There were enough lose ends where another book could occur, but overall you knew the direction it would take and things were getting to be more peaceful for that area. There was a bit of surprise to me on how the EMP occurred which the basis for the beginning of the series.
How did I find this book? This series was recommended to me by a co-worker.
This will probably be the last book in the series. It is a good book but doesn't have the great story line that some of the other books in the series have. I would not recommend this book by itself, but the series is fantastic.
I love the characters old and new. I usually read these books in a matter of days as I just can't put them down. The grammatical and missing word errors have significantly been reduced as well. I highly recommend this series to everyone that is seeking excitement.
I give this book, as well as the previous nine books, a 5 star rating. I read and enjoyed the ten book survivalist series very much. I took notes to remember a lot of the ideas and we are working to incorporate these ideas in our own survival checklist. My husband and I are both in our 60's and our kids, grandkids and siblings are all just over 100 miles away. Easy in a car but it will be a tough walk. If things go south, we're on our own. I think the author had fun with some of his characters. Sarge is one of my favorite. Dalton is a favorite. I did not take away stars for the many, many mistakes in the Kindle version of this series, but it really bugged.
The respite from defeating the Cubans at the park did not last long. Nor did the brief joy of experiencing electricity once again. The main Cuban-Russian force was still camped at the auto auction yard. They must be dealt with for any semblance of peace and safety. “Little-Bit” is still enthralled with Ruckus the limb rat, and it is heart-warming to see her feeding the little rodent with an eye dropper of baby formula. It’s been a year since Morgan saw his parents. He has been wanting to check on them for some time but life in the apocalypse has prevented his leaving. If they can remove the Cuban-Russian threat maybe he’ll get his chance. Such good characters, and a look at how situations might actually play out. A highly recommended series!
I've just finished the 10th book, Home Coming, I absolutely love this series. Every book is like reconnecting with old friends. Each book holds your attention and you find yourself on the edge of your seat. I've felt the sadness, loss, thrill, panic, and love along side the characters. I can't wait to see of there's more to come. I will definitely reread these and recommend them to everyone.
3 stars for the story and 1 for sentimentality. With things settling down, it makes for a calmer storyline though I don't miss the loss of characters. I'm relieved Morgan finally got to his parents. I was critical of him b4 for waiting, but when I really consider everything they've endured, I get it. I also appreciated the mention of Jeff and his Harley; I really liked his character.
A bit of a slow ending, but not a bad conclusion to the Coming Home series. I will miss reading about Morgan, Thad, Jess, Mike, Dalton, and the old man. The addition of a nearby group of survivors made for a great addition to the already stellar cast. The resolution of business with the nearby invaders was also well done. Here's hoping A. American comes back hard with another great series. Have enjoyed this one for what feels like forever now.
The book was a reminder that with hard work and compassion for others all things are possible. Nothing came easy however they persevered and turned things around. As much as I enjoyed the struggles that the team faced its good to see it end on a happy note. I'm sure there will be new challenges ahead but tonight they celebrate. Great series I'm pretty sure ill be rereading it at some point.
I finished "Home Coming" by A. American (2018) yesterday. This one I must have read only once because, unlike the others in this series, I couldn't remember it that well. In this one the challenges faced by the protagonists come from foreign invaders, trying to get power restored, and trying to harvest crops. The grammar errors were cleaned up a lot more in this one to the point that I don't specifically remember any. Another good read in the series.
I've read all the books so far. It's really interesting to see how the family, friends and neighbors have endured without the niceties of life for so long. Hopefully this will be the mindset of people if this kind of event really happens in the U.S. Based on the reliance on technology in our country, I don't think a lot of people will have the skills to survive. Looking forward to the next book.
Awesome. Can't wait for the next book. Chris you amazing when it to writing a story. I felt like I was there the whole time. Please let me know when the next book comes. I haved loved this series
So far. I am Waiting for the TV show. I would like to know if you ever get to Greenville, SC area I would like to meet you and Me Mel. Thank you
I don't even know where to begin. I absolutely loved this whole series. I've been reading this genre for a couple of years now ever since I stumbled upon One Second After. I'm sure this is the longest series I've read but so worth the time invested. I walk away with a renewed sense of hope.
I read 1-9, one after another and then read this one after a period of time. I would always prefer to start and finish a series in one go, while everything is fresh in your mind, but I still enjoyed this book. The author keeps me interested and the narrator did a good job, as always.
This long series is outstanding. I've read it several times. I thought this book would make a great ending to the series. If the series does continue my opinion would change. Each book before this left you hanging. It left me wanting to read more but, this was a beautifully happy ending.
I'm so relieved to be at the end of this series. I enjoyed this ride along with Morgan and his family and friends, but I'm also glad to see it come to an end.
This was definitely the best book in the latter half of the series. There was a good bit of relationship-building and you get to be introduced to some more people in Morgan's family.
Read the whole Going Home series (except for #7 that wasn’t available for Kindle) back to back. The last 3 filled in the blanks, so I probably won’t go back to read it. Enjoyed everyone of them and was always anxiously looking forward to the next one. Really looking forward to reading more of Chris’ books.
I love this series. Enough action plus the day to day existence that you would expect from a grid down scenario. As from the first book....I’m really looking forward to the next book!
Really liked this series. So, is this the end or....what? Very interesting storyline and characters. Great interplay between the characters. Just an all around great read.
Love this series. Another great book in a very series.some grammar/spelling/editing errors, but nothing too bad. I highly recommend the series of you enjoy this genre.
I love this series! A. American has a way of pulling you into the story and making you feel like you know the characters. I wish the book was longer, I can't wait to see what Morgan and crew are into next. Looking forward to book 11.
Fantastic series, great story line, you can almost feel the people, hear them, taste the food. Lots of great information. Going out and buying a Unicom holly. That you A. American, thank you so much. Now it is into days of chaos
As always the author puts down a compelling and believable story. A great value and along with the entertainment value, it offers education for an unthinkable but possible future.
A.A. out did himself with this book. Not taking anything from books 1-9 but good lord. Did not expect the emotions that came from this book. Highly recommend this series to any and everyone. Now if we can just get this series turned into a movie!
