Alice and Secret have qualified for the Olympia Horse Show – and Alice is so excited about having an adventure in London with her beloved pony! She knows the competition will be tough but one girl, Leah, seems to REALLY have it in for Alice… What IS her problem? Could it be connected to the girl’s sinister sponsors? Then, one icy night just before the competition, disaster strikes the stables. It’s going to be a race through the streets of London – and against time – to put things right. Will Alice and Secret win through, or has Alice’s Olympia dream turned into a nightmare?
A perfect pony story from the author of the much-loved The Palomino Pony series.
Olivia Tuffin lives on an arable farm in Dorset with her farmer husband Clive, three ponies, two dogs and a pet sheep called Florence. She never outgrew the pony-mad stage and her favourite thing to do is to ride off for hours into the countryside. She’s always loved writing and wanted to write the kind of pony story she adored as a child. Her own ponies and their funny antics provide inspiration for her stories every day.
🎄 I took an unintentional two year break from this series, and was slightly foggy on details as I began reading, but soon all the characters and their previous adventures fell back into place and I was away. I really do love these books, which follow Alice and her red pony Secret. In this book they are preparing to compete at the Olympia Horse Show.
Secret is a cheeky and sweet - his personality reminds me of my own pony, who died earlier this year. The similarities made the book enjoyable but a little challenging at times too.
I always like how Olivia Tuffin balances the world of competition while maintaining a strong focus on the well being of both horse and rider, which is prioritised over winning. Her previous series had a character who moved away from that completely, deciding it wasn't for her, which I found refreshing, but I also like the point that you can be competitive, and do well, without losing sight of everything else.
Although I don't have specific reading goals this year, I am working on finishing (or sometimes starting) books that belong in a series I've fallen behind on. That will include the final two books in this series, as well as the first few her new one, "Sunshine Stables".
